San jose s. W. A. T. Teams and police units swarmed a large neighborhood by story road and South Jackson avenue searching for a man who tried to rob a checkcashing store at gunpoint. Kpix 5 reporter anne makovec joins us live. And anne, apparently they caught this guy. Reporter yeah. They caught him about an hour ago. He is in the hospital right now. He was taken directly there from this neighborhood. We know that a dog was involved in his apprehension so it might have been a dog bite wound but he is expected to survive. It all started earlier this morning here at this business behind me this checkcashing business on story road and diana avenue in san jose. A man tried to rob the place by gunpoint just before opening time at 8 a. M. There was one employee in the store at the time, a woman. Shots were fired but the woman wasnt hit. She is fine. Police were notified and they got here as the man with the gun was running out of the building. They say he started jumping fences and escaped into the neighborhood. Youre looking at the Police Response as they tried to find him. It took about 2. 5 hours as dozens, possibly hundreds, of homes were on lockdown as police and s. W. A. T. Officers went door to door. This is what things looked like above from chopper 5 this morning. Police finally narrowed things down and found him in the backyard of a home on cinderella lane and arrested him. Fortunately for us we were able to go ahead and locate him. As it stands now, nobody no innocent civilians were injured. Reporter police are first having trouble finding his gun after they arrested him. It looks like they had dropped it along the way which was a Public Safety concern but then police found that gun within about a half hour of his arrest. They said it was very close to him. There was also some question as to whether or not he may have shot his way out of the Check Cashing business here behind me because some of them have those doors where you have to get beeped out to actually exit the building. There was some talk that maybe he was shooting out the windows to actually make his escape. Police have not been able to confirm that yet. Frank . Anne, how about the suspect . How badly was he injured . Reporter we know that his injuries are not life threatening. But it was bad enough to be taken to the hospital where he is now. Thank you, anne makovec live in san jose. Police are searching for a man who grabbed a woman near Santa Clara University this morning and she fought back. Officers say she was walking home from a Convenience Store near poplar and washington streets when the man attacked her from behind. She kicked him in the groin and escaped. Residents tell us they never expected an attack like this in their area. Im also not completely surprised because i always go around with the perception that something could happen to me which is why i try not to walk around by myself especially late at night. Officers say a k9 unit tracked down the suspects scent to the campus and then lost it. Bart workers are preparing for a rally in oakland later today. Warmer temperatures inland. 70 in concord, 71 san jose. And 72 degrees in livermore. 65 still a little breezy into san francisco. Those clouds hugging the coastline early on a little more broken than yesterday but you can see just a nice patch of fog that will likely continue into the afternoon. So keep some clouds right out toward the coastline. And these temperatures are going to stay down. Not only today but over the next couple of days until this whole trough of low pressure moves out of the way. Looks like well keep the numbers down. After that well warm up at least in the latter part of the weekend. If you plan to head around the state today, 92 sunny fresno, 92 yosemite. Monterey bay 63 degrees partly cloudy skies. 84 and comfortable for sacramento at this time of year. And 59 degrees mostly cloudy in eureka. Around the bay temperatures as high as 75 degrees in san jose. Should be about 10 degrees warmer in morgan hill at 85. You will see those temperatures in the 80s also into gilroy. 50s and 60s and breezy toward the coastline and as you approach the golden gate, plan on 81 degrees in livermore. One of the warmest spots probably about 84 in brentwood. 80 degrees in Pleasant Hill and 76 in the napa valley where they are checking out the grapes. And the next couple of days here we are going to be in for some similar weather just some minor fluctuations in the weather pattern maybe a little drizzle overnight tonight out along the coastline. Otherwise i think slightly warming up on sunday and monday. Cooling down no heat wave on the horizon that i can see through the middle of the month. Thank you.
