They chained themselves to a train as part of a black lives matter protest. And it caused epic delays that lasted for hours. They shut down the system for 2 1 2 hours on the friday after thanksgiving. I think in this case, bart overreached by asking for the 70,000 in financial restitution. There was another physical damage done to the trains or to the station. This was a nonviolent protest and i think that was just way too much to ask for. Reporter maybe. But an exclusive kpix 5 surveyusa poll found 64 of bay area adults surveyed wanted the money paid back. I can tell you that as a bart rider, i was pretty ticked off. I wouldnt put them in vail but they should face the consequence, i wouldnt put them in jail. I dont condone anybody shutting down bart for any political cause. People depend on bart to get around. I think its just gone too far. Reporter the poll also found that 87 of those surveyed think that the protestors should at least do some kind of community service. That is something that the d. A. Is able to pursue. Reporter but they wouldnt pursue it if theres no charges. No, they wouldnt. Reporter so this would all go away. Yes, they have served some jail time and went through Court Hearings but it would make the rest of the case go away. Reporter something oakland city councilman noel gallo says sends the wrong message. We have to enforce the laws and the rules. I understand that position. This is just my position. Reporter now, the District Attorney in Alameda County in Court Filings has said the charges are justified that the system was tied up and that they the protestors did trespass. As for restitution, thats up to the judge. Now, its interesting to note that its going to be an alternative measure also introduced at tomorrows bart meeting let the charges stand but not get the money. It will be an interesting meeting one that a lot of the riders are going to be watching. A Health Advisory for bart riders. Thousands may have been exposed to the measles from a regular passenger who has been diagnosed with the disease. Reporter veronica, when you ride public transportation, you do wonder when somebody coughs or sneezes on you, am i going to get sick . Last week somebody here at the lafayette bart station had measles and other riders will have to see if they have the virus. Its contagious. Fortunately we have a highly immunized population here. But measles is circulating throughout the bay area as you can see from cases in other bay area regions. Reporter people who rode bart between lafayette and the montgomery station 6 to 8 a. M. And 7 to 9 p. M. On wednesday, thursday or friday of last week may have shared a car with a person who now has the measles. There were about 50,000 people commuting on bart during those hours each day. And likely about 130 people on that persons train each direction. Cant really identify the people on the bart train with this individual or in that car for up to one or two hours afterwards. Reporter even hours after the person left the train, someone who isnt immune or vaccinated could get measles. The 107 cases in california, 60 are adults. Part of that could be because people born between 1957 and 1970 may have received a less effective vaccine. They can go to a doctor to check their level of immunity. The measles patient on bart was also at the e o kitchen and bar in San Francisco on wednesday between 5 30 and 7 00 and works at linkedin, in San Francisco. The company says no one else has symptoms but employees in high risk categories are advised to see their doctor. Health officials want the public to be aware but not alarmed. Shahwans old roommate had become the main suspect in the case. But mark andrus died after a Drug Overdose this past weekend. Night out took a violent turn for one woman in san jose. Now, the good into good news is the victim is in stable condition and will probably survive. But investigators have few leads theyre willing to share about what might have triggered this shooting. Jonathan says he pulled over, called 911 and then tried to soak in the scene. That many gunshots fired with so many people around, it was definitely a little bit chaotic. Reporter police say a woman eating dinner at the restaurant was shot after someone fired several rounds into the East San Jose business. Investigators say it doesnt appear that the victim was targeted. She was an innocent bystander inside the restaurant. We dont have any motive right now. We dont know the circumstances. But the investigators are currently working the investigation talking to witnesses and trying to piece together what happened. Jimmy is too scared to talk on tv. He was driving this gray van delivering papers yesterday morning when two men came out of nowhere and started cursing then attacked. Jimmy put it in reverse and started to peel away but then crashed into one car and then another and his airbags deployed. So he bailed out of the van. He just started running for his life because he didnt know what was coming there so this guy start coming after him caught up to him and beat him up and left him behind. We have not heard officially from the san jose Police Department as to what went down here this afternoon around 5 00 this evening. But i did speak to a neighbor just a few minutes ago who said that about 5 00 he heard four shots ring out in this neighborhood. He said it sounded as though the shots came from the same weapon. They were very distinct sounding shots that rang out. What he also said is that there may have been some sort of a domestic dispute at one of the houses in the 1300 block of sherman street. Were on alma street just around the corner right now. You can see that the roads have been blocked off as the Police Department continues to investigate. But again, the neighbor told me that this might have to do with Domestic Violence. This happened around like 5 00. Reporter so linda asked the delancey Street Foundation to help sew hundreds of personalized did you feel bags. At least they have something thats theirs on day one. Reporter board member alice thomas admires lindas endless energy. She just has that magic power. Its look she wiggles her nose and poof, its done. Reporter linda funds nonprofit mostly out of her own pocket. She purchased all the quilting and sewing machines, bought fabric from more than a dozen stores that closed, and converted rooms from her two condos for sewing and supplies. Linda also runs a boutique where she sells donated and hand made crafts to fund quiltworks programs. Next door, she operates a fabric store where atrisk young people get hands on on job training. Intern faijon ekah says she sews seeds of wisdom. Do what makes you happy.
