A mob of 30 people breaking two coolers at a gas station on that stret then running off with the drinks. Neighbors say robberies, side shows and shootings in the area have gone up. They say all the road closures have isolated the area and people think they can get away with it. Cal trans says the project wont be complete until 2018. Another bay area city rocked by an earthquake today. People in gilroy felt a 3. 5 magnitude quake just after 9 a. M. The u. S. Geological survey says the epicenter was near the calaveras fault about 6 miles southeast of gilroy. There were no reports of damage. Napa quake victims needed food, water, and clothing. Now they need to figure out how to get their lives back. Mark kelly is live with how a new Health Center is promising to make that happen. The American Red Cross set up shop inside this Marriott Hotel in napa valley. A very different type of checkin here today. Reporter ryan mcman with the red cross says his staff is refocusing their efforts toward longterm help like rebuilding homes along with physical and mental health. Mcmann says now in week 2, time has only brought new concerns. People who thought initially hey, my house held up okay, now theyre finding the damage and having to find alternate ways to support themselves. Reporter this room gives quake victims an actual person to talk to, someone to help fill out all the overwhelming paperwork. David augusta appreciates the personal attention and needs it. A recent injury keeps him from working and the quake left him and his home vulnerable. If i was still working, it wouldnt be a problem. Id have been able to replace the hot water heater and the damage. If you dont have a source of income, youre all shook up about it. Reporter the red cross is expecting 200 families to come here to help this week alone. As long as theres a need, were not going to leave anyone on the street. Were here to help. The red cross certainly busy. In addition to the new help center they just set up, they also have two shelters. One here in napa. Another here in vallejo. There are more people staying at those shelters now than the night of the quake. 40 families total. And thats because the red cross says theres more homes getting red tags. Mark kelly, kpix 5. Like mark was just saying, the help center is for all quake victims so theyve seen people from vallejo to get help as well. It wasnt fog. Parts of the bay area hazy today because of a fire burning 300 miles away. Smoke from a huge wildfire in siskew county is drifting. The fire has burned more than 62,000 acres. The fire started at the end of july. Were told it may not be contained for another week. A San Francisco lifeguard who went after a struggling swimmer ended up having to save himself. Matthew summoner had a terrible time getting back to shore after helping a swimmer. A surfer ended up rescuing that swimmer. In the meantime, sumner had to paddle down shore after getting caught in a rip current. He has some advice for anyone else who is thinking of swimming there. Definitely wear fins. Know where you are. Know what the water conditions are doing. Now that we have really strong rips, cold water, and people lose their lives here every year. Its not a joke. Sumner was clearly exhausted but otherwise he is okay. Were learning more tonight about what could be one of the most dangerous hangout spots in the bay area. The treacherous cliff just cost one man his life and nearly killed two more. Reporter the Fire Departments rescue operation to save three men at Palisades Park in daly city woke the neighborhood. When i woke up there was an ambulance here. There was Police Officers here. Reporter sometime around 4 a. M. Saturday, the three climbed over this fence. One of the men tells me they were trying to get to the beach. Problem is, theres a 300foot cliff in the way. They were climbing down when all three fell and one man died. One false slip and youre done. That sucks, man. Reporter neighbors say folks do it all the time. The fence is broken down in places. There are dozens of paths through the bushes all leading to the cliffs. Neighbors say folks have been coming out here for decades and they know its dangerous. Its a really nice view but its still cliffs and just be careful with what youre doing. Reporter along with firefighters, a coast guard helicopter joined in the rescue. Still not enough to save 28yearold sean carrington. He died on the beach. Thats pretty tragic. Thats very trag ic. Reporter the rescue operation lasted nearly five hours. Many are pointing a finger at apples icloud which reportedly fixed a problem today, but any Cloud Storage system is vulnerable. Someone can hack just about any service. Hacking isnt the only thing you need to consider. If you make your material available to a third party, that means it could be subjected to Something Like a subpoena if youre involved in a marital dispute or other kind of dispute or perhaps the government is investigating you. Its important to remember that anything uploaded to the cloud could presumably be there forever, even if you delete it and depending on your settings, your smart phone could be automatically uploading your information. Knowing this, hackers often target cloud servers using software to figure out user names and emails which then allow them to access your data. Resellers are supposed to fill out this form and document the sellers name, date of birth and thumb print. The problem was no one was filling out the paperwork. So detective tim minor said that was a problem and convinced city leaders to start charging a 500 fine. I hope our efforts here will reduce crimes in other jurisdictions as well as in Mountain View if people know theres no place to sell your stolen property. Reporter but how . They had no name, only these images. I started flipping through the pictures, i noticed a wall, just a brown wall. Thats when i said i think i know where this is at. Lets go there. How do you remember a beige wall though . Its just something that i saw at one time and it stood in my memory bank and i saw the picture, i correlated my previous memory with the picture i saw and brought us here. Reporter they were parked outside dave laceys house. It was ericas camera that was stolen with the images that had not been backed up on a computer. She was an amateur photographer, a hobby to fill those days as she fought large b cell nonhodgkins lymphoma. That was his wife. Those were the last moments he had with his wife. I thought it was a joke at first, to be honest. I had given up all thought of recovery. Reporter it had been a year since the camera was stolen, and somehow the burglars, the pawnshop, no one erased those precious images. I almost feel like someone was watching out for me. Just to get it back. The burglars pleaded guilty. One was sent enced to 120 days in jail and three years probation. The other was sentenced to 30 days in jail.
