The federal government cancelled the redskins trademark. What does that mean . You know, it was just a couple of years ago they were just a small group of indians. They have a casino, money machine and turned it into a major pr machine going after the biggest sports teams in america. Take a look. Proud, four gotten, native americans call themselves many things. And made the extremely unusual move of canceling the Washington Redskins trademark. So are the Washington Redskins going to become the Washington Monument . The story isnt over. Well see sooner than later an appeal in federal court. Reporter indeed the redskins say they will appeal the ruling just as they did in 1992 when a similar ruling was overturned on a technicality. In the meantime, thanks to the newfound millions of the tribes, its also likely to be a very public fight, as well. This is beyond david versus goliath. This is a losing hand at this point for the Washington Redskins. Everyone is weighed in against them. Firefighters had their work out the door for them as the three alarm fire had their work cut out for them as the three alarm fire was put out. Len ramirez reports crews are standing by for hot spots. Reporter thats right. So far, it has stayed down after burning for more than 5 hours this afternoon and morning here in sunnyvale. This fire cause is under investigation. Firefighters say it did start on the outside of the two homes here on lantana drive at about 9 25 this morning. A neighbors cell phone video shows the scene just moments after the fire started. And before firefighters got there. The men in orange shirts you see are part of a tree trimming crew that was working nearby. They knocked on doors and shouted, fire. Lucky for the people inside, one of the burning homes, because they were still asleep when it happened. I woke them up. They say, wheres the fire at . The fires inside the house. Your house is on fire. Come on, got to go. The mom out of the house in time. She wouldnt listen to me. She was going back and forth, back and forth. Reporter the Tree Trimmers also rescued a toddler from one of the burning homes that was being used as a daycare. Fortunately everyone got out of the burning houses okay and no one was injured. Unfortunately, though, there was a loss of life to one pet, a dog was found in an upstairs bedroom of one of the homes. It was believed to have been killed by smoke inhalation. A young woman clutched her dog tightly, loved ones hugged each other as they processed exactly what was going on. Two families now forced to start over. Our da lin spoke to one neighboring homeowner who fearlessly took matters into his own hands. Da. Reporter ken, while many of the neighbors gathered their cats and dogs to run away from the flames, this one homeowner ran towards the flames to make sure he could save his home. The homeowner hosing down his rooftop was close enough to the flames to nearly burn him. I didnt care. I could feel the heat and smoke. I had to keep putting it out. Reporter not even his disability could stop him from fighting the advancing flames. Joseph moreno is blind in his right eye. He says his top priority was to get his four dogs to safety, three of those guide dogs. Once they were out, he went on the roof with his garden hose on full blast. Never experienced like this in my life. It was chaos. Reporter sunnyvale firefighters screamed at him to get off the roof and get out of his home. Cops even threatened to arrest him. He ignored them and kept spraying down his house. They werent even putting in i water on my house on my property and the flames were coming on my property. I thought what i did forced them to come to my side of the house. I said water my side of the house or im not coming down. Reporter the side fence was destroyed but the house is saved only minor water and smoke damage. Joseph believes his action is what saved it. The Fire Department says it was reckless and dangerous. Not advisable by us. We dont want him to slip, fall, hurt himself because in that happens it takes away our resources to take care of him. Quite stupid to be honest with you. I wouldnt recommend it. But i had no choice, i had to protect my property and i would do it again. Checking bay area headlines, caltrain is investigating the fourth fatality on its tracks this year. A southbound train hit and called a male pedestrian around 10 15 this morning just south of rangesdorf avenue in mountain view. The incident caused delays in both directions. There were no injuries to passenger or crew on the train. Faced with a new deadline, muni and its operators are talking about a new contract. The deadline to get a deal done is now at the end of the month. A new round of negotiations is under way. The Sticking Point has been the unions pension contributions. If they cant come to an agreement, the existing contract would roll over. Seems theres a speed bump on the road to traffic relief for Silicon Valley. A half cent transportation tax that would have paid for all those projects has been delayed until the 2016 election. Silicon Valley Leadership group behind the measure thought that there might have been enough support to put it on the ballot this november. Its a competition to inspire girls around the world to use technology to solve a problem. Stress is like a part of reality. Its always going to happen. But we want to minimize the negative stress. Reporter they had ideas about dealing with stress but were clueless about coding. Its so mindblowing that were able to create our own app. The challenge has opened our eyes. Our solution to this problem was to create an app reporter this is their winning video pitch and tonight in Silicon Valley, the four juniors are competing against seven other teams from five continents for 10,000 to promote and improve their app. All these girls are a sign of another breakthrough in a career where women are underrepresented. There are several in the bay area but not in oakland and mcelhaneys office wants it to stay that way. These automated purchasing machines are easy to access located near Public Transit and in the malls. Reporter the fear at oakland ceo city hall is the number of stolen cell phones will go even higher. The robberies have nearly doubled in four years from 1600 in 2009 to nearly 3400 in 2013. Of all of the robberies in the city of oakland, 80 of them included a cell phone. So we think that something must be done to reduce cell phone theft. Reporter the biggest seller of them is ecoatm that said by asking for a drivers also and a thumbprint, and by using cameras to watch sellers, its machines are safe. Former San Jose Police chief William Lansdowne works with ecoatm. He says because of our security measures and cooperation with local authorities, thieves tend to avoid ecoatm and stolen phones rarely end up in our kiosk. The company says less than 1 of the 2 million phones it has recycled was reported stolen. And it tries to get the phone back to the owner. Farmer says thats missing the point. Whoa. The front of the car was hanging over the edge until crews pulled it back inside. The Fire Department says luckily, no one was hurt. Luckily. A canadian woman knew that she was having a stroke. Reporter the national Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened two investigations into chrysler ignition switches which can suddenly shut off the engine and prevent the air bags from deploying. The investigations cover 1. 2 million chryslers model years 2008 to 2010. They include 700,000 Dodge Journey suvs, chrysler town country, and dodge grand minivans. Another investigation covers half a million 2006 and 2007 jeep commanders and 2005 and 2006 jeep grand cherokees. Nhtsa says they got complaints that the drivers knee can bump the ignition and move it out of the run position. The agency says it learned of these issues because of stepped up communications with auto and part manufacturers following that massive gm recall. And it will soon be easier to comparison shop when you shop online. Six of the nations largest retailers including walmart, costco, cbs vs and walgreens have agreed to start displaying the unit prices of items like food, drugs and other items. He had been hired as a manager at a Homeless Center in petaluma but says his colleagues commitment to the homeless inspired him to do more. A friend of mine told me a story about a bookmobile that was being turned into a camping vehicle. And i only heard the word bookmobile. I knew instantly what i wanted to do. Reporter with his young sons in tow, glen drove a donated trailer on weekends offering donated books to homeless families. The ceo mike johnson watched glen in action. He brought you know the gift of literature to thousands and thousands of children. Reporter then glen opened a new chapter in his life when he started operating the free bookmobile full time three years ago. Thank you youre welcome reporter today, glen drives a big green truck carrying 2500 books and visits 200 different places a year promoting literacy among Sonoma County senior citizens, boys and girls and the homeless. As it gets stronger, we get more of the ocean influence. Its not as hot. That begins tomorrow. Then once we get that pattern where we have afternoon sunshine, but not hot weather, once we get that, we keep it.
