Firefighters had their work out the door for them as the three alarm fire had their work cut out for them as the three alarm fire was put out. Len ramirez reports crews are standing by for hot spots. Reporter thats right. So far, it has stayed down after burning for more than 5 hours this afternoon and morning here in sunnyvale. This fire cause is under investigation. Firefighters say it did start on the outside of the two homes here on lantana drive at about 9 25 this morning. A neighbors cell phone video shows the scene just moments after the fire started. And before firefighters got there. The men in orange shirts you see are part of a tree trimming crew that was working nearby. They knocked on doors and shouted, fire. Lucky for the people inside, one of the burning homes, because they were still asleep when it happened. I woke them up. They say, wheres the fire at . The fires inside the house. Your house is on fire. Come on, got to go. The mom out of the house in time. She wouldnt listen to me. She was going back and forth, back and forth. Reporter the Tree Trimmers also rescued a toddler from one of the burning homes that was being used as a daycare. Fortunately everyone got out of the burning houses okay and no one was injured. Unfortunately, though, there was a loss of life to one pet, a dog was found in an upstairs bedroom of one of the homes. It was believed to have been killed by smoke inhalation. A young woman clutched her dog tightly, loved ones hugged each other as they processed exactly what was going on. Two families now forced to start over. Our da lin spoke to one neighboring homeowner who fearlessly took matters into his own hands. Da. Reporter ken, while many of the neighbors gathered their cats and dogs to run away from the flames, this one homeowner ran towards the flames to make sure he could save his home. The homeowner hosing down his rooftop was close enough to the flames to nearly burn him. I didnt care. I could feel the heat and smoke. I had to keep putting it out. Reporter not even his disability could stop him from fighting the advancing flames. Joseph moreno is blind in his right eye. He says his top priority was to get his four dogs to safety, three of those guide dogs. Once they were out, he went on the roof with his garden hose on full blast. Never experienced like this in my life. It was chaos. Reporter sunnyvale firefighters screamed at him to get off the roof and get out of his home. Cops even threatened to arrest him. He ignored them and kept spraying down his house. They werent even putting in i water on my house on my property and the flames were coming on my property. I thought what i did forced them to come to my side of the house. I said water my side of the house or im not coming down. Reporter the side fence was destroyed but the house is saved only minor water and smoke damage. Joseph believes his action is what saved it. The Fire Department says it was reckless and dangerous. Not advisable by us. We dont want him to slip, fall, hurt himself because in that happens it takes away our resources to take care of him. Quite stupid to be honest with you. I wouldnt recommend it. A southbound train hit and called a male pedestrian around 10 15 this morning just south of rangesdorf avenue in mountain view. The incident caused delays in both directions. Reporter the biggest seller of them is ecoatm that said by asking for a drivers also and a thumbprint, and by using cameras to watch sellers, its machines are safe. Former San Jose Police chief William Lansdowne works with ecoatm. Reporter the national Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened two investigations into chrysler ignition switches which can suddenly shut off the engine and prevent the air bags from deploying. The investigations cover 1. 2 million chryslers model years 2008 to 2010. They include 700,000 Dodge Journey suvs, chrysler town country, and dodge grand minivans. Another investigation covers half a million 2006 and 2007 jeep commanders and 2005 and 2006 jeep grand cherokees. Nhtsa says they got complaints that the drivers knee can bump the ignition and move it out of the run position. As it gets stronger, we get more of the ocean influence. Its not as hot. That begins tomorrow. Then once we get that pattern where we have afternoon sunshine, but not hot weather, once we get that, we keep it.
