Reporter the Oakland Unified School district says it did find unsafe levels of lead in the water here. But theres good news because they found the source and they are working on fixing it. Lead was found near the water fountain by the football field, the boys and girls locker rooms, both out of commission, and the kitchen faucets in the cafeteria. They also found sediment which turns the water a brown color. Subsequent tests of the water there shows lead is no longer a problem and for now 11 water dispensers have been installed throughout campus because students arent allowed to drink from the water fountains right now. But the district does plan on installing filters on all those fountains. In a Statement Released by the School District superintendent yesterday, she said these changes that theyre talking about one day will hopefully replace the piping system at mcclymonds but that will take a long time, a year or more, and cost around 2. 3 million. Its no quick fix. In oakland, jackie ward, kpix 5. The san jose state professor who harassed a student may not be returning to the classroom after all. The university announced that professor Lewis Aptekar would teach two classes this year despite an investigation that found that he repeatedly asked out a student back in 2015. Students planned to protest on monday which is when one of his classes was scheduled to start. But an sjsu spokesman confirmed that that class now canceled and a second class will be state by another professor. Its unclear now if apteka will stay with the university in a different role and if this decision was his. This afternoon, Santa Clara City Council is set to discuss an audit centering on levis stadium. It goes from firefighters costs and Public Safety matters and violation of use of taxpayer money. They will discuss whether they will accept or reject the audit findings. Corte madera is drafting urgency ordinances that would prohibit Recreational MarijuanaBusiness Activity in town and limit outdoor home cultivation. The ordinance would put in place a 45day moratorium on the pot activity with option to extend. Staffers will get their own regulations. Dispensaries are already prohibited there. If you have been around union square lately you probably have seen its ripped up and San Francisco city leaders trying to help businesses impacted by the construction. The central subway will link the chase center and downtown and nearby bart stations. But right now, several businesses have been losing business because of the construction and closures. One city leader wants to create an impact zone and provide Financial Assistance to affected businesses. Construction on the subway is expected to last through november of 2019. At the state capital immigrant rights advocates are urging governor jerry brown not to change the proposed sanctuary state legislation. Lawmakers behind the bill are hoping it will help protect immigrants under President Trumps expanded deportation orders. It would prohibit police and sheriffs agencies from using resources to enforce federal immigration laws. But it has raised opposition from republican lawmakers and sheriffs who say they have been in discussions with brown in hopes of amending the bill. The governor has not said what those changes could be. And that comes as a rally is planned over the issue in redwood city this afternoon. Reporter anne and kenny, its true, unsafe levels of lead were found here at Mcclymonds High School but intoed news is that the district is aware of it and they have already started solving these problems. But still, lead was found in one of the fountains boot football field, in the kitchen faucets at the cafeteria, and in showers in both the boys and girls locker rooms, which are out of commission. They also found sediment and that turns the water this nasty brownish color. Additional testing of the water in the locations showed that lead is no longer a problem and the water is not a health threat. But for now, 11 water dispensers have been installed throughout campus because students are still not allowed to drink from the water fountains. Filters will eventually be installed in all the fountains. A Statement Released by the School District superintendent yesterday she said, quote, well keep you, our students, staff, families and other stakeholders apprised of the process. Well also be engaging the community to ensure that your voice help us determine the best fastest and most Cost Effective way to complete these changes for the school. But because of that High Pressure, look whats happening by the weekend. Sunshine will be in place. That High Pressure will build up and its going to cause our temperatures to rise about 10 degrees. Temperatures in the mid60s along the coast. Whats going on with this Tropical Storm harvey right now. Wind gusts as high as 60 Miles Per Hour. So its only moving at 10 Miles Per Hour. Pretty slow. But by friday night into saturday morning, thats when this one is expected to actually intensify. Could become a category 1 hurricane as it reaches Corpus Christi. There are hurricane watches and warnings in effect now. The texas gulf coast under a hurricane warning as that Tropical Storm harvey approaches. The National Hurricane center says its expected to make landfall near Corpus Christi on saturday. Forecasters say that system could produce storm surge flooding along the coast anywhere from eastern texas to western louisiana. Some city businesses already have sandbags in place.
