A lawsuit that blames three tech giants for the 2015 terror attack in paris goes to federal court in oakland today. The family of a california woman killed by terrorists says the companies provided Material Support to isis. Kpix 5s Jessica Flores joins us with details. Reporter thats right. Its shaping up to be a legal showdown here in oakland at the federal courthouse. The big question today, can these companies be held liable for what users post on their platforms . Thats what a judge will have to decide today if this case against twitter google and facebook can move forward. The lawsuit was filed in 2016. The family of 23yearold Nohemi Gonzalez filed the lawsuit. She was the only american killed in the 2015 terrorist attacks in paris that left 130 people dead. The lawsuit claims that the social Media Companies knowingly permitted the Islamic State to spread propaganda, radicalize and recruit, which the lawsuit argues allowed the terrorists groups to carry out the paris attack. Facebook, twitter and google say they worked to remove terrorist content and frankly any content that violates terms when they are made aware of it. Twitter says the lawsuit is without merit. Now, if this case moves forward it would have broader implications for other cases because so far, federal law has protected these companies streeting the websites like the Printing Press or Postal Service, not responsible for information that comes across the platform. Still, the lawyer for the family says they are not suing over the content, but, rather, suing the company for providing the infrastructure that has allowed isis to grow. This case starts at 11 a. M.
