Right now, Alameda County firefighters are currently on the scene of a twoalarm fire at a commercial building in newark. It started around 2 13 this morning near Central Avenue and kimber street. Three trucks caught fire and flames quickly spread to the buildings. At this time, there are no reports of injuries. In san jose, firefighters are keeping tabs on hot spots after a massive fire in the foothills. The flames broke out on lariat lane and claitor way yesterday afternoon. Youre looking at the garage right now. Behind that a car completely burned but i also want to show you the view from up above. We have chopper 5 in the air right now. The hills are black all around this community in the san jose foothills, East San Jose foothills. You see some smoldering, just charred hills and what i can tell you right now, firefighters have been keeping a close eye on this fire all night. Those huge flames we saw yesterday are now out. But they are working on the hot spots making sure that the flames do not flare up again and damage any more homes. Now, this started around 4 30 p. M. Yesterday. Fire crews raced to contain the flames which eventually burned more than 100 acres and filled the sky with thick smoke that was seen for miles. One home destroyed. Another burned. The flames forced evacuations for 11 homes and fire crews remained here through the night making sure the fire didnt spread to more properties. Hot spots and potentially live flames and we are keeping an eye on it now. Its huge. What these people did was heroic. Reporter residents affected by the fire can go to the berryessa community center. So far were told about 10 residents have used that center. And out here live, the good news is, there are no injuries to report. Firefighters are still working to determine the exact cause of the fire. At 7 a. M. , well get a full update on their progress. Air quality warnings are issued for Santa Barbara county because of smoke and ash from both the whittier and alamo fires. State officials are working to speed up repairs on the oroville dams damaged spillway. The department of Water Resources has asked federal regulators to let it demolish and replace an additional 240 feet of the spillway chute. The first tonight at 6 00 at the Santa Clara Valley water district. More than a Million People in the east bay are now paying the price for saving water during the drought, this after east bay m. U. D. Just approved a 9. 25 rate increas. An additional 9 goes into effect in july next year. The average water use customer will see an increase of 4. 34 cents a month on their bill. East bay m. U. D. Says that the money will go towards operations to make up for lost revenue from the drought and infrastructure to repair aging pipes. San francisco supervisors have just approved legislation establishing the highest Affordable Housing requirement rules in america for market rate developments. The ordinance requires 18 Affordable Housing in rental projects. The supervisors also approved a second piece of housing legislation charting out several proof of residency requirements for landlords planning to evict tenants so that they can reside on their properties. A plan that would transform San Franciscos Market Street may be on hold. Supervisor jane kim urged the Transportation Authority to vote to withhold 15 million for the better Market Street project. She has concerns about the 6 million spent during the 7 year planning process during which few changes have been made. The project aims to transform Market Street into a transit, pedestrian and bikefriendly space with construction set to begin in 2022. Of course, Market Street one of many roads around here where theres a lot of traffic. I dont drive on or near Market Street. Too stressful. So many rules, no turns here, lanes with all the arrows its confusing. Thats from the traffic girl we have a couple of problems. We were tracking a problem along 680 and this is right near willow pass road. Thats one crash. And starting to slow things down for drivers heading in that southbound direction as you connect with or as you are making your way from the no we are tracking slowdowns on highway 4 just south of that crash. 680 at main street looks okay as you approach highway 24. But just south of highway 24, we are tracking a new accident and thats 680 at crow canyon. Couple of cars involved and it looks like a big rig possibly blocking a lane. So you can guarantee theres going to be a backup. Right now over at the bay bridge toll plaza, well, looks the usual. We have metering lights on. The eastshore freeway is heavy. We had a stalled vehicle blocking a lane near powell street. That has traffic backed up and we are in the yellow so we are tracking about a 30minute drive time from the carquinez bridge to the maze. Then at the maze its 25 into San Francisco. The good news is, we were tracking that earlier problem along the connector ramp from 280 at 101, in San Francisco, and that turned out not to be an accident and its cleared. Things are looking much better for driving approaching the lower deck of the bay bridge. Hats a check of your traffic; over to you. Lets do this. This morning, the wall fire in butte county continues to burn. Its already destroyed 41 homes. One family lost their home that their patriarch built nearly three decades ago. Yesterday for the first time they saw their belongings reduced to rubble. This cell phone video was taken by the orsillo family just moments before the fire ripped through their property. They were only able to grab a handful of clothes before they evacuated saturday night. Weve lost memories my poor children, they grew up here. You know, family home, their whole childhood, their whole security as children. So far, the wall fire has scorched about 5800 acres. Crews now have it 55 contained. In auburn, evacuations have been lifted. The Placer CountySheriffs Office says that a new fire started near clipper gap road yesterday afternoon. At least three structures have been destroyed. We have 17, 18 fires burning across the state of california and you know our air quality is going to take a hit from this especially the ones burning in butte county and also san leandro last night in the san jose area. That comes as the city of oaklands Public SafetyCommittee Just voted to terminate the partnership between i. C. E. And the opd. Oakland is a sanctuary city. But last year, former police chief sean whent entered into a memorandum of understanding allowing particular Oakland PoliceDepartment Officers to be designated as United States customs officers. City Council MemberRebecca Kaplan then sponsored this resolution calling for oakland to sever its ties with immigration and customs enforcement. Some civil Rights Groups are outraged over a Police Shooting bill making its way through the california legislature. The initial version passed by the assembly would have allowed local police and district attorneys to ask the state Attorney Generals Office to investigate Police Shootings. Swimmers and surfers are warned to use caution in the water. The big waves and rip currents are expected to diminish later tomorrow and friday. Right now, several beaches are closed in the santa cruz area because of a shark attack there. A man says he was kayaking off the coast yesterday when a great white shark attacked his kayak he wasnt hurt, but that kayak had a foot long bite mark in it.
