That bill has to clear another committee before the full assembly vote. San Francisco Police have some new rules for dealing with undocumented immigrants. The Police Commission voted to revise the departments general orders last night, lining the Police Policy up with the citys sanctuary ordinance. It makes it clear, police can work with i. C. E. On busting criminals. But it will be against Department Policy to cooperate in any way that enforces federal immigration laws. Some immigrant advocates say it doesnt go far enough. Representative Steve Scalise is back in intensive care in the hospital. Today an update on his condition is expected. He was the congressman who was seriously hurt in last months shooting at a baseball field in virginia, he has an infection. He is listed in serious condition again. The suspect in the june 14 shooting was killed by police on the scene. Four other people were injured. This morning, prosecutors say the outofcontrol driver accused of slamming into an east bay family killing two children was intoxicated. He is formally charged today with two counts of murder, dui and felony hitandrun. Prosecutors say he was driving without a license when he ran off an offramp on friday and hit the familys suv. Two boys ages 5 and 10 were thrown from the vehicle and killed. Their mother and 3monthold brother were badly hurt. Witnesses reported seeing the other driver running from the scene. Wilson was arrested a short time later when he turned up at Highland Hospital where he remains. Today in san jose, victims of the coyote creek flood having making a push to get their damages covered. Kpix 5s jackie ward is live in san jose on the claims they plan to file. Jackie. Reporter as you can tell behind me, cleanup is far from over here in the coyote creek neighborhood in san jose. Theres a long list of flood victims we expect to hear from later this morning. The press conference is happening here at rocksprings park because this was one of the areas that had to be evacuated last winter. A lot of Horror Stories came out of the situation. Thousands of people in the coyote creek area lost everything and some of those people are suing the Santa Clara Valley water district, the city of san jose, and santa clara county. The city of san jose estimates the flooding caused 73 million in damage. And since march, the city has hosted public hearings to talk about its responsibilities and how all of this happened in the first place. San jose mayor sam liccardo has spoken to us in the past about how the city had failed its residents and how they should have done a better job of evacuating people safely. Jackie ward, kpix 5. A Santa Cruz County town once on the brink of losing water, in a few hours county leaders plan to hold a News Conference at the cemex plant with a message to what was once the oldest business in the county. The pipe that is supply the towns water the pipes that supply the towns water are on cemex property but the storms damaged the pipes this year forcing the county to switch to a backup water source. That source runs dry in the summertime. County leaders have asked cemex to repair the pesix months and when it didnt happen, the situation got worse. Just because they have chosen to close down the plant doesnt mean their responsibility ends. I hope they do the right things. The repairs will cost 220,000 and the county says if cemex doesnt step up, the people who live in the 100 homes in the town and Business Owners will have to pay. Changes could be coming for people on caltrain. In a few hours the board will meet to discuss an increase in fares and parking. Kpix 5s Katie Nielsen reports. Reporter hey, good morning. Reporter here we are nearly five months after that catastrophic flooding hit the coyote creek area and as you can tell, cleanup far from over here. There are piles of garbage all over the place here in the neighborhood. The Community Still trying to rebuild nearly five months after it was flooded and residents had to be evacuated. And this morning some of those people are putting the blame on the city of san jose, the Santa Clara Valley water district, and the county of santa clara. The rocksprings park neighborhood was under four feet of polluted water at one point and there are still about 100 people displaced from their homes. A plan to protect this area from flooding in the future is in the works and consists of extending floodwalls and levees a few miles upstream of coyote creek. But residents we have spoken to in the past are skeptical, understandably. San jose mayor sam liccardo has said that although there are still some people who need to be returned back to permanent housing, he wants to recognize the progress thats been made. A vallejo couple entangled in a kidnapping that police once called a hoax has been given the green light to sue the city. Hiring was not quite as strong in june as it was in may. Private pay row tracker adp private payroll tracker adb reports 100,000 less jobs than the prior month. Still a decent gain and there were gains across most sectors especially in the Services Areas such as education and healthcare. Manufacturing also added a number of jobs while construction and mining pulled back a little bit. The Labor Department is expected to report on friday a bit stronger gain of around 180,000 jobs. Unemployment is now 4. 3 . Labor today reporting that weekly unemployment claims were up a bit with initial jobless claims up 4,000 to 248,000. Teslas stock has taken a beating over the past couple of days. It fell 7 yesterday on its weakerthanexpected sales for the 2nd quarter and today the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety questioned teslas claims of safety for the model s saying that it is not necessarily rated as highly as tesla thinks it is. Tesla took exception to that, told cnbc that the model s is indeed the highest rated according to the federal government. But teslas stock is down 3 in the early going today. The landscape around San Franciscos new Salesforce Tower is getting a new look. The Company Behind the big project says it is redesigning its plans for the redwood trees and concrete sculpture on the plaza outside of the building. Instead, it will be a half acre of paved open space. That path will lead to the new transbay transit center. The center will be on the plaza south edge at mission and fremont streets. Its all expected to open next spring. Today, San Francisco mayor ed lee is expected to make an announcement about funding to improve San Francisco parks. Assemblyman phil ting helped secure the 6. 5 million in funding from the state budget. The money will be used to carry out renovation projects in parks throughout the city. Time is 6 47. We have been dealing with a couple of crashes and they are all cleared in that northbound direction. Bir still dealing with delays. 880 at 92, taillights southbound, about 20 minutes from 238 to highway 84. We have an accident northbound 880 right at decoto road and we are seeing a big backup on decoto thats slowing folks down around 4 miles per hour. If you are heading northbound, thats starting slowdowns, we have speeds dropping below 30 miles per hour. San mateo out of hayward into foster city about 20 minutes. Eastbound not so bad about 13 minutes from foster city over to hayward. 101 at 380 your ride looking good. If you are heading to sfo, not too bad. We have speeds in the green in both directions. It will be slow as you are making your way through burlingame and foster city along 101. We are tracking delays along the eastshore freeway. I know, big surprise there. We are in the red if you are making your way from the carquinez bridge to the maze, about 30 minutes. Its another 24 minutes from the maze into downtown San Francisco. Love that summer wildfires are burning in about a dozen western states. One of the latest is forcing evacuations in the popular Mountain Town of breckenridge, colorado. Almost 500 homes have been evacuated. Crews say the fire has scorched at least 84 acres since it started burning yesterday. In northern nevada, more evacuations. Firefighters there have been working from the ground and the air trying to contain a wildfire. Its bindy and spread out. The fire windy and spread out. The fire was reported by a mountain biker near the colorado trail. The cause is under investigation. Some people in san jose still havent been able to move back into their homes after flooding that happened back in february. This morning, they are suing the city. A lot of horrific stories came out of this neighborhood just a few months ago, and a lot of people lost everything. Some people are suing the Santa Clara Valley water district, san jose, and santa clara county. They are announcing that lawsuit this morning. The city of san jose estimates the flooding caused 73 million in damages. Since march, the city has hosted public hearings to talk about its responsibilities and how this all happened in the first place. But the people who live around here are skeptical of the progress thats been made. Mayor sam liccardo has said that although he realizes that work has been done, still more needs to happen.
