Right now police are gearing up for protests in berkeley. Conservative speaker ann coulter canceled her visit but supporters from both sides say they still plan to show up. Although there have been reports that ann coulter isnt going to be here today, Campus Police are saying that the university has not gotten confirmation of that so regardless of ann coulter being here or not today, Campus Police are preparing for anything and despite the fact that Berkeley College republicans are saying the university couldnt guarantee a safe space for her to come speak, University Officials say they regret the fact that coulters appearance had to be canceled especially what this being the home of the Free Speech Movement. A berkeley spokesman said that legacy would be destroyed if the campus was allowed to pick and choose its speakers. Various political groups are expected to speak on campus today and some say they dont want this situation to escalate. Were here just to support the president , to express ourselves. Everybody has their strong opinions. We didnt come for a fight. We are not challenging the people of berkeley. All we want is a chance to say what we believe, support our president and then leave. The Berkeley College republicans are the ones who were planning on hosting ann coulter today on campus. They filed a lawsuit against uc administrators. They say they are being discriminated against. Well hear more from them at 1 30 this afternoon. In berkeley, jackie ward, kpix 5. Arkansas is scheduled to carry out another execution by lethal injection tonight. Convicted murderer Kenneth Williams would be the fourth put to death in eight days. If he doesnt receive a last minute stay. The state wanted to execute 8 inmates before the end of the month because one of its drugs is set to expire. Executions for four of the eight are on hold because of court rulings. That comes as california corrections officials are delaying their new lethal injection regulations by four months. No inmates have been executed in the state since 2006. Some california gun owners say they are having problems trying to register their guns specifically assault weapons as required by california law. They said it should be easily done through the internet at a website. You should pay no more than 15. And it should be an easy process. But that has not turned out to be the case. The sacramento resident says when he goes on the California Department of justice website to register online, theres a message that reads in part, at this time, the regulations are still pending. However, they should be effective in the veneer future. Police continue to check the bureau of firearms website for updates and now gun owners say they are concerned about the consequences they could face if their assault weapon is not properly registered. A day after the state auditor blasted the university of california for its nearly 175 million secret fund, Assembly Speaker anthony ren din is calling on uc is reverse a planned tuition increase. He is the second member of the board of regents to call for a reversal hike next fall. It would be the first in six years. The auditor found that the university overestimated its operating costs and spent less than budgeted. The University Officials are denying the audits results. The board also voted to end the sale of sugary drinks in the Santa Clara Valley health and hospital system. Bay area transportation officials have voted unanimously to provide millions in funding for an extension of the smart rail project. The metropolitan Transportation Commission just approved 13. 3 million in funding for a 2. 1 mile route linking downtown san rafael to larkspur landing. The money comes from regional measure 2, which raised bay area state bridge tolls by 1 in 2004. A bark is sunk in the bay. The 112foot boat capsized on april 7 in storms. Theres new information about the repairs at the oroville dam. A group of experts who are independently looking at the dam say the spillway should be repaired by november. The rest of the work around the dam will likely have to take place after the next rainy season. The state just awarded a 275 Million Contract to a company to make repairs. The spillways failed this year after the flooding. Relief is in sight for muir beach residents. Highway 1 between the panoramic highway split and green gulch will reopen may 6. It took about 20 minutes for force of control the flames. According to a fire dispatcher the home was empty when crews arrived. Firefighters are still on the scene as they investigate the cause. Theres new information about the man accused of attacking a south San Francisco officer. We know he will stand trial for attempted murder. The fight happened when Police Chased him on his skateboard. The man hit the man on the head with a skateboard. The officer has severe brain damage. Its unclear if he will ever return to duty. The lawyer for the man who admitted to a deadly hate crime says his client may not be mentally competent to stand trial. Police say Kori Ali Muhammed shot and killed three white men last week in downtown fresno. Muhammeds Defense Attorneys says he has asked the court for a psychological evaluation and expects the court to address the issue during muhammeds arraignment today. He was charged yesterday with three counts of firstdegree murder. If convicted, he faces the Death Penalty or life in prison. Some in the bay area are already finding fault with President Trumps newly released tax plan. Flores is here with details on a local rally against the proposed reform. Kenny today in San Francisco more than 30 groups will be protesting the president s tax plan. We havent seen the full tax details yet but the one page outline released yesterday is sparking outrage. It says the plan would cut Corporation Taxes from 35 to 15 and cuts rates for individuals and simplify the tax code reducing tax bracket from 7 to 3. Democrats say the plan benefits the wealthy and corporations. Critics say it would add trillions to the deficit. But the white house is betting on Economic Growth to pay for the cuts. United says that it will now only use Law Enforcement for safety and security issues. The company will also offer passengers up to 10,000 in compensation if they are willing to be bumped from a flight. As united makes those policy changes, new legislation seeks to protect passengers. Two Democratic Senators introduced the ticket act.
