Buildings have been approved for reentry after flooding. Anne makovec. Reporter im in the rock springs neighborhood which is the hardest hit area. Most of the streets have been reopened, this is one exception. Its one of the side streets here off of center. You can see there is a huge pile of debris in the middle of the street. A lot of the cars were looking at around it have been there since the flooding happened. This is one of several neighborhoods that you will see tagged on the home. And this is what they mean if there is a green tag on your door, that means its clear for reentry. Its safe. If there is a yellow tag, that means its restricted. Enter at your own risk. If you see a red tag, that means do not enter. It is not safe. This weekend dozens of volunteers helped some of the returning evacuees try to clear out the furniture from their flooded homes. The process of damage eanup wil likely take weeks. There is no question that there is a failure. And what we need to focus on right now is taking care of the family. In the days and weeks ahead of fixing that failure because we cant repeat that. Reporter that was mayor sam is liccardo who vowed to launch an investigation into what went wrong. These are some scenes from last week when 5,000 homes were evacuated. That included about 14,000 people. The city now trying to figure out if the flooding could have been prevented or better predicted. Now they are starting the process of getting state and federal funds in here to help people. They first have to declare a state of emergency which the city council is expected to do tomorrow. Back to you. What kind of help is the city giving out right now . Reporter you may have known they had a Community Center open all weekend long where people were able to go. Its a one stop shop. That is at the the sheer cow what Community Center. That is where you can find the dmv, department of housing. There is Free Transportation to the Community Centers. All hands on deck trying to help out here. We found sleet and hail in the Santa Cruz Mountains. We also had snowfalling at Mount Hamilton. All of that activity is out over the medesto area. Highway 35 closed. This is due to previous storm damage. Still recovering from earlier storms here. And also road work on highway 17 between glen wood drive and sugarloaf road. You can see to the left here a big pile of debris and there is more to come from some of these homes that were severely damaged in the floods. This weekend, dozens of volunteers came out to help. Including mayor sam liccardo. Trying to get some raft returning evacuees situated. Trying to clear out the furniture. The process of Damage Assessment and cleanup though will likely take weeks from the 5,000 homes effected by this about 14,000 people were evacuated last week. And all of those homes have a tag on them this morning. If the tag is green, that means the home is clear for reentry. If its yellow, that means reinstructed. If the tag is red, that means do not enter. Its not going to be safe. A lot of these evacuees dont know what comes next. We cant afford to miss a day from work. Right now.
