Mediators, we represent, um, i. T. And, um, used to represent court reporters. All clerks that work the front line at the counters that service the public. So obviously there are going to be some longer wait times and delays here with the courts. They say that they are going to see some criminal proceedings as best they can. If you have a hearing today they are going to likely turn you away. What have they said to you about that . Oh, they i guess made plans to keep the courts closed today and they were trying to tell the public dont show up because they dont want, um, a big turnout of people coming to court today because they dont have the staffing. And so we feel that in regards to having the staffing out here, were making a point that, you know, our, um, employees are needed to run this court. We have given a lot of our time and effort in making this court run smoothly for a number of years and they dont appreciate it. Reporter how long is the strike expected to last . For now live in san jose, maria medina, kpix 5. Crews are trying to contain a fastmoving wildfire in napa and yolo counties. The fire started near Lake Berryessa yesterday afternoon. Its 1700 acres. The campground near winds is evacuated as well as a residential area known as golden bear estates. The fire is burning near Monticello Dam which is on the southeastern edge of Lake Berryessa. As a result, state highway 128 is closed in that area. We now know the cause of of a deadly wildfire in moment more than the. It started from an in monterey county. It started from an abandoned campfire. Dozens of homes have been destroyed and a man in a bulldozer died in the fireline last week fighting the blaze working on fire breaks. The fire is 25 contained. They will come in and remove all the vegetation and trees, the brush, leave the ground exposed completely. Are the company is investigating what caused the death. One person has died after a car drove off a cliff in Santa Clara County early this morning. It went off the side of highway 9 just north of Redwood Gulch road at 1 15 a. M. New this morning, a federal judge in San Francisco is barring the use of secret recordings by fbi agents in the case over foreclosed properties. Five Real Estate Investors are charged with rigging bids and carrying out mail fraud linked to auctions over foreclosed properties. The fbi didnt have a warrant when it recorded 200 hours of conversations that took place in front of the San Mateo County courthouse during those auctions. Yesterday judge Charles Breyer decided that the men had a reasonable expectation of privacy there so the footage was off limits for the case. According to new reports, the tesoro refinery didnt learn from their mistakes. In 2004 workers were burned from sulfuric acid because of lax safety. And so again, they plan to strike here at 7 00. Live in san jose, maria medina, kpix 5. Investigators are checking a fatal accident on highway 99 in merced county. Five people were killed and more than 20 others injured when a charter bus slammed into a pole. It happened about 3 30 yesterday morning between the communities of atwater and livingston. That stretch of northbound highway 99 was shut down for more than 15 hours yesterday. The bus was headed from mexico city to washington state. It was nearly split in half when it ran into the sign post. I woke up and i was lying on the floor. [ speaking spanish ] and i think it crashed into a post. [ speaking spanish ] the bus was split open and thats how i got out. The bus was about to stop in livingston to get a new driver when the accident happened. The man driving the bus at the time of the crash is among those injured. The bus involved in the crash had problems in its latest inspection back on april 28. According to federal records, inspectors found it didnt have a properly working brake warning device and some seats did not meet standards. The company had more than 50 federal violations in two years but the government rates the companys record as satisfactory because theres no evidence of substantial noncompliance with safety requirements. Thank you. Big changes are coming to the Oakland Unified School district after an autistic child was pinned down by his caretakers for more than 93 minutes. It happened at a private school contracted through the Oakland Unified School district. The mother of the 9yearold child discovered the mistreatment and found it was a common practice at the school. She sued and won. Now the district must sever all contracts to its schools that use prone restraints. Now police are looking for two men who shot someone in broad daylight. It happened yesterday afternoon near the arroyo bike trail in livermore. Officers say that the two confronted a 25yearold man, shot him in the stomach and ran off. We are told that the victim is in critical condition. There arent they suspects descriptions yet but police think this is an isolated incident. New this morning, we are getting a closer look at a plane crash at Dubai International airport. You can see all that flame and the smoke coming from the plane. It happened when an Emirates Airlines flight was trying to land. Witnesses say that the pilot came on the loudspeaker just moments before the crash saying that there was a problem with landing gear. 300 passengers and crew were on board. All of them were safely evacuated. Time now 6 39. Supporters of a proposed tech tax in San Francisco says the measure was blocked due to one supervisors financial interests. Adp says that private firms added 17 the,000 gains in july, bigger than june. Thats in line for expectations when the Labor Department delivers its jobs reports friday. Labor reported a bigger increase for june at almost 300,000 but we are expecting a gain of 180,000 and that would continue to show a pretty solid pace over the past few months for the u. S. Economy. Tech earnings are in focus today. A number from around the bay area. One of the big winners is San Franciscobased fitbit with strong sales of its blaze smart watch and alta fitness band revenue up to 600 million and shares up by 10 this morning. Electronic arts topped expectations. Revenue is down a little bit but it didnt have any major game releases in the recent quarter. Its stock is also on the rise. Social game developer had a loss and shares dropping this morning. Stock market trying to get out of its doldrums. The dow on its 7th session losing streak and off to a flat start today.
