His teenaged sisters were killed on a texas highway in march. They were in the back seat of this car when the teen driver looked at her phones gps and steered into an oncoming 18 wheeler. What is it like to get that phone call . Reporter well, we were actually at a friends house and my father called me and we were basically in disbelief. We were in shock. Reporter aaa says 60 of teen crashes involve distraction and the number of deaths increases significantly during the summer months. Aaa calls it the 100 deadliest days starting on memorial day. During that time, more than 1,000 people die in crashes involving teen drivers. 16 more than other days of the year. Its very important for parents to be mindful of this during that period of time and to really be involved in the teens life during that time. Aaa says every day during the summer driving season an average of 10 people die after being involved in an accident with a teen. A stretch of northbound 5 is closed right now all because of a huge sinkhole. This is in San Joaquin County south of tracy. All northbound traffic is being detoured until further notice. The sinkhole is at least 36 feet across. Caltrans says it needs to find out the exact cause of the sinkhole before the repair work can begin. We are looking into the fact that there is an irrigation pipe underneath that may be the cause. Were not quite sure, but were still investigating. And this is a live look at the scene right now. Crews have been working all night on it. That stretch of northbound i5 is not expected to open until tomorrow at the earliest. Wow. Thats a lot of work. Thats a massive hole. All right. The crash we have been updating you on this morning downtown 880 was a crash that had the big rig and two other vehicles. That crash is now cleared but still take a look at this. Our sensors are showing we have delays behind this. So we are looking at about 17 mileperhour, 19 Miles Per Hour. Even though that crash is cleared at this time. All right. Take a look at the bay bridge this morning. We finally bumped up from grown to that orange color on 80 from the carquinez bridge to the maze. Right now about a 25minute drive time. We are seeing slowandgo conditions out there this morning. On 580 the Altamont Pass and 680 to 680 this morning, we are seeing yellow sensors out there. Nothing major as far as slowdowns right now the Altamont Pass to 680 is 16 minutes. If you are in the south bay heres a look at your drive times. 101 from 680 to highway 237, currently 14 minutes. Elsewhere things are in the green. Overall looking good. Anne makovec is live in San Francisco on the reforms that could restore faith among skeptics after with officer shoved shootings. Officers could have cameras on their uniforms by august 1. It was announced yesterday that the police union and the Mayors Office have reached a tentative agreement on a policy for these bodyworn cameras when they will be turned on and apparently settles the issue of when officers will be able to view their own footage. A policy would allow officers to view the footage except in cases of officerinvolved shootings and incustody deaths unless allowed by the chief. When a Police Officer goes from being an observer to possibly a suspect, they should not be looking at the video before making a statement. We believe that our officers should be allowed to view that video to provide complete, accurate thorough reports. Investigators hope that newly released images will generate fresh leads in the search for a vallejo teenager who was kidnapped last year. They believe the photo of the suspect as car a gold saturn with bumper stickers. They hope to get tips from anyone who may have seen this car to determine where the car was driven. Another shows the type of backpack that pearl pinson was carrying at the time of the abduction. The man who kidnapped her was shot to death during confrontation with sheriffs deputies in Santa Barbara county. The body of a second oakland teen who drowned in a reservoir has been recovered. The two boys had been missing since saturday after they jumped from a boat into Woodward Reservoir in stanislaus county. Its unclear what went wrong. But the two 15yearolds were not wearing life vests. Both teens went to school in the Oakland Unified School district. At least three other people from the bay area drowned over the memorial day weekend. Two pittsburg residents drowned in Amador County and an oakley man died in sacramento county. Starting today, the east Bay Community of blackhawk will fine residents who arent keeping their lawns green. Some homeowners stopped watering when statewide water cutbacks went into effect. The Drought Conditions have eased since then. So according to the blackhawk homeowners association, quote, beautiful landscaping is required starting today. Its based in massachusetts and makes software for ecommerce. Salesforce says it will allow it to expands its own e Commerce Business ating 100 million in revenue a year to its business. On tesla, the company had a meeting, elon musk hinted that the future modal 3 may not allow owners to have supercharge access. That network allows owners to charge up cars for 30 minutes quicker than Home Charging stations. Up until now all tesla owners had the free service. The model free is half the price of the model s and to make that work the company may have to charge for supercharging stations unless those owners buy a special package that would include free charging. Federal prosecutors filed a suit to keep the family of syed farook from collecting nearly 300,000. The suit claims farook had already become radicalized when he took out two insurance policies in 2012 and 2013. Prosecutors say that gives the government the right to seize that money. Time now 6 46. Lets check traffic with sandra. Very busy wednesday morning. We are getting more reports of crashes coming in. One in san jose on northbound 101 and it is causing some delays out there. So something to keep in mind this morning. You can see right there on our sensors we are picking up traffic moving in between 11 and 20 Miles Per Hour. Three right lane is blocked on 101 in the area. The right lane is blocked on 101 in the area. So this crash here is just past the caldecott tunnel there, westbound 24, two cars on the shoulder of a road but again we are beginning to see more and more of that red on our sensors right there picking up about 15 Miles Per Hour as our driving speeds there. And this morning also, southbound 880 we have a crash there earlier involving a big rig. That crash is now cleared. They can still see the leftover results from all of that. We are seeing very slowandgo conditions from oakland all the way to union city. We are looking at speeds between 15, 16 Miles Per Hour up to about 30 Miles Per Hour. So we are seeing some major slowandgo conditions on 880 southbound this morning from oakland back up to union city. So we are keeping an eye on that to see if theres going to be any improvement in the next halfhour or so. The bay bridge heres a live look the we are also beginning to see the drive times getting slower and slower this morning. We saw our sensors go from green to deep orange, 32 minutes from the carquinez bridge to the maze. But roberta, look at the sky there. Its looking absolutely beautiful.
