It crashed yesterday spilled its load from an overpass. The scene played out just south of the 280101 interchange and somehow the truck driver was able to escape with no injuries. The truck was headed eastbound on silver avenue about 8 45 in the morning when it lost control, hit a car, which hit the front of a house. The truck plowed into a lamp pole then flipped on its side broke a guardrail and sent construction debris on 101. The truck driver able to climb out of the windshield as that truck dangled over the freeway. As you can see behind me, the truck is mere inches from going over on the 101 which would have been a disaster. No oneonone one was hurt, either. The driver of the car that was hit on silver avenue was knocked unconscious and is now in the hospital. Southbound 101 reopened around 3 30 p. M. After crews pulled the truck upright, removed the debris from southbound 101 and replaced the guardrail. What a mess. Its amazing the driver was able to get out of the can of the truck. Dangling over the freeway. Incredible. Yeah. All right. Well, lets get a check on the roads right now and hopefully no dangling trucks this morning. Reporter as have other top level officials here at city hall. Jails are obviously a necessary evil. Like it or not, they are going to be taking a vote today on whether to take a big step toward a new jail. This is a Budget Committee voting on whether or not to accept an 80 million state grant down payment on a 240 million new jail. It would replace part of the jail at the hall of justice which is seismically unsafe. But opponents say the city should spend money on treatment and prevention instead of new jails. Our jail population is continuing to go down. Our Mental Health population needs continue to go up. Again, any san franciscan can walk in any part of the city today and the evidence of people Walking Around that clearly are in need of Mental Health services is there. Reporter the d. A. Says he would rather see the city renovate existing facilities than build a new jail. While there may not be enough beds for all of the people that are currently incarcerated, he said he would like to see a lot more people treated outside of the jail cell. But theres still a lot of questions about how they will be used. The cameras would help officers in investigations. But legal organizations including the Bar Association say they are worried they could actually taint them. They are against officers being allowed to review the footage especially incidents that involve the use of force. You would never think under any circumstances of showing an accused or showing a witness video of a crime or from a body camera before they made a statement. Why . Because you would not want to infect their statement. The San Francisco Police Commission is set to address bodyworn cameras at todays meeting. Pg e is hosting an open house to discuss its plan to remove more than 300 trees in palo alto. The utility wants to remove the trees that they say could get in the way of First Responders in case of an emergency. A runaway dump truck clashed spilling its load from a overpass on highway 101 southbound and Juliette Goodrich test us, the truck driver escaped injury. Reporter hard to imagine the driver of this dump truck climbed out of the windshield walked away unscathed as it dangled over highway 101. We do have this big rig accident though in the peninsula eastbound 92 on the transition ramp to 101. There is a big rig crash off to the righthand shoulder. This latest problem is westbound 580 approaching North Livermore avenue. It is blocking one lane of traffic. Traffic has been backed up anyway from beyond the altamont pass. You move beyond the accident here westbound 580 picks up a bit approaching the 680 interchange. Bay bridge toll plaza slow from the foot of the maze this morning. There was an accident on the transition ramp leading from north 880 towards the bay bridge pay gates. That accident has just been cleared from lanes. And heading for the Richmond San Rafael bridge, a lot of folks making that commute this morning so westbound traffic is going to be heavy approaching the toll plaza. It slices into the Santa Clara Valley. Its going to take about 4. 5 hours for this system by the time it hits the north bay at 9 00 in the morning until it moves out. Heres your 2 00 hour.
