A major road project begins tonight near the Golden Gate Bridge and look for some lane changes on the southbound side just past the toll plaza. And headsup. Mark kelly shows us the last change near that spot really caused some problems. Reporter it is here. Southbound 101 where crews are changing the road moving traffic slightly north. The gray color shows old southbound traffic lanes and this blue line shows the new lanes. Just a small distance, but a big deal for some. I didnt want to hear that. Reporter sandy bacon worries many wont understand the lane change. People going too fast thinking they know where theyre going and theyre cutting in and out of people and that causes accidents. Reporter others worry what the tourists will do. Theyre confused right off the getgo. Because most of them come here. Theyre tourists and they dont know. Reporter back in may the most recent big change to the stretch of road, drivers did have accidents. That time in the northbound lanes. The last San Francisco exit was moved. 1,000 feet sooner. Forcing drivers who missed it to drive all the way over the Golden Gate Bridge. To avoid that long haul, this minivan tried this dangerous maneuver. And you know with tourists in the bay area, it is amateur hour out there of the approach to the Golden Gate Bridge. So slowing down is always a good idea. The presidio parkway is scheduled to be finished next summer. Bay area commuters are bracing for the possibility of another transit strike. The unions representing golden gate ferry captains, bus mechanics and some bridge workers threatening to walk out sometime next week if they cant reach a deal on a new contract. The biggest impact would be on ferry riders. But bus drivers could potentially refuse to cross picket lines if theres a strike. A longtime employee at sha bow college in heyward is accused of running up a huge bill on her boss credit card. Karen silva was a top aide to the president. Silva resigned in june after being confronted about the charges and agreed to repay the money. At this point, she has not been criminally charged. A wildfire is prompting evacuations near grass valley a rural area about 60 miles northeast of sacramento. More than 150 acres have burned since the fire started around 2 00. Dozens of residents in the area are being told to pack up and leave and so far, containment numbers have not been announced. Well, with triple digit temperatures forecast, officials are worried about Southern California and that fire that will spread further. So far more than 1600 acres of burned in Cleveland National forest and about 300 firefighters are batting the flames and protecting homes in the fires path. As of late this afternoon the fire was 10 contained. Many residents had to evacuate. The last time they evacuated it. They couldnt us. They wouldnt let us back in for two weeks. Rescue crews are going door to door to rescue pets left behind. To patrol a popular path for speeding cyclists. Thats still ahead. That may not sound like much to a lot of people but consider this we have not gone this long in oakland without a murder in 15 years. So since the 1990s, i did speak to the mayor earlier. She credits the program called cease fire with the drop if the murder rate in the murder rate. It gives convicts the chance to work with the city to clean up their lives or go to federal prison. Thats not the only good news, use of force among Oakland Police is way down and now been 15 months since a Police Officer has actually shot someone in oakland. Normally we see at least a handle of the officer involved shootings over a given year. We will actually get a chance to speak to oakland mayor quan tonight and here from her about hear from her about why she says her program is working and also talk to us for a bit tonight about why whether she thinks shell actually get credit for that. But the mayor says the District Attorney is likely to rule it selfdefense and not murder. Long time residents near lake merritt says theres an influx of young adults moving in. Since 2011 the average rent in the area has risen by 53 to 2,400 a month. Its still cheaper than San Franciscos average, which is 3,200. Levis stadium says the new turf is good to go for the 49ers home opener tomorrow. It will be the first regular season nfl game played at the new stadium. The field has already been replaced twice after players complained about slipping during a preseason game. The new turf is the same kind they used at candlestick. Ray mcdonald is also a go for tomorrows game despite the Domestic Violence charge looming against him. The defensive end was arrested last month for allegedly assaulting his pregnant fiancee. The prosecutors are still investigating him and not filed charges yet. People say enough is enough. I think we need to do a lot more on this bike path because its a multiuse path. And we do see that bikers speeding. Granted we also see the kids crossing without watching. So i think that twofold. But i think we need speed bumps and i think we need more signage and i think we need a cop here every now and then. Police have not cited the cyclist, they say that right now theres no evidence that she was speeding. There were other things available to kids besides shoes including plastic slides for bouncing and other games. The 19th annual girl deli chocolate festival kicked off today. Its a tribute of course to all things chocolate. And a benefit for project open hand a nonprofit that serves meals to seniors and people with hiv and aids. And some highlights include cooking classes and wine and beer pairings. But theres also something you see chocolate as more of a sporting event. They can experience the very famous ghi rardelli ice cream eating contest. People put their hands behind their back and its very fun and the crowd goes wild.
