Reporter anne, with those damaged cars removed from the tracks they are making Good Progress telling us now they will have the trains back on the track and running at 8 a. M. Sunday. Thats tomorrow morning, almost 24 hours ahead of the monday morning commute. Certainly good news. Reporter early today, crews began untangling the mess after a 10car bart train ran off the track as it left concord station following the friday evening commute. This is the second of four cars that derailed and were damaged. Heavy crane worked overnight into the morning to lift the cars and place them on flatbed trucks for the trips to bart maintenance yards. No passengers were on the train at the time of the derailment. The operator was not injured. He was in the last car which became the lead car as the train headed tail first out of the station. It had rolled off the tracks and up to the edge of the overpass. Around midday, all the cars had to be moved and track repairs began almost immediately. The goal is 8 a. M. Sunday morning to have full service restored. Reporter bart says the accident occurred as the train was in automatic mode at about 27 miles an hour and headed for nightly maintenance. Bart provided this video showing one car off the tracks and sections of the ripped up third rail power source. Inspectors from bart and the california puc will try to determine what caused the accident over a track switch called an interlocking. Nearly three years ago a train with 65 passengers derailed here leaving three passengers with minor injuries. It is the same spot as a derailment in march 2011. And certainly, thats something we are going to look at, whats the commonality and whats different. Thats part of the investigation. Reporter with the damaged car out of the way and the train removed, the repairs began. This saturday passenger took the inconvenience in stride. I think its terrible. Reporter any concern about the safety of bart trains . Yes. But its transportation for a lot of people so its one of the things you have to do to get around. Reporter at the Pleasant Hill station this is where bart riders get on and off buses to get where they need to go to get around the troubled concord station. Thats one stop up the rail line. Here is a map showing you what is going on bart riders going from bart to bus to get from point a to point b but things seem to be moving fairly smoothly out here people getting where they need to go within a so or 15minute delay. There are bart workers here directing people and its a little slower on saturdays of course especially out here toward the end of the line. I talked to a few people who would rather bum a ride than take a bus. Have you taken a shuttle . No, im waiting on a ride. So i wont have to go through this. Ross filed a civil rights suit against the city yesterday. He is seeking 32 million in damages. Hotels for the homeless, its san joses latest plan to combat the growing Homeless Population in the city. Putting some of them up in local hotels and motels potentially for years. City Council Members will discuss the proposal on monday. The plan would give Homeless People a room for up to five years. A Nonprofit Service would help with job hunting and permanent home searches. People walking their dogs in San Franciscos twin peaks neighborhood should be on the lookout for poison out meatballs. Animal control officers spent four hours this morning searching the neighborhood for tainted meat. 21 meatballs similar to these found last year were picked up this morning.
