Heavy rain and high tide flooding a neighborhood in redwood city. A mobile Home Community along Bayshore Road is trying to mop up but more problems could lie ahead. They certainly didnt see this coming. And a lot of them telling me they couldnt even leave their homes today because they were trapped inside. Now, fortunately, im not stuck in the water right now. I would have been a few hours ago but take a look as we were driving through this Mobile Home Park today. This was flooded with water. This is a combination of high tide, the overnight storm that was so powerful, and then just saturated ground. The water had no place to go. Reporter some were stuck in the home because of the water, others were right out in the middle of it. How deep is the water . Up to your shins probably maybe a little deeper. The san fransesquito creek is expected to reach at least 90 of its capacity and its already spilling over its banks into some buildings there. This video was shot this afternoon near pope street and chaucer street. You can see the water has risen up over the sidewalks there right into a body shop. That business and a couple of other buildings used sandbag bus the water was too much. Well, its kind of slowed down everything right now. We are trying to paint cars and water is coming in. The shop owners say some of the floodwater is coming from a bridge project that he says caltrans has not finished. Heres another view of the san fransesquito creek. Check the debris at the bridge. Police posted the video. They brought in heavy equipment to get it out of there to keep the water from going up over the bridge. In san jose this evening, city crews are keeping an eye on this rushing river. The Guadalupe River pretty dangerous moving with some force tonight. San jose officials expected the creek to rise at least 7 feet today. Very close to flood stage. And some tense moments in Castro Valley a little earlier when a public golf course had to be evacuated because of flooding. 22 people at Redwood Canyon were trapped there. They had to be rescued from the restaurant. The road leading to the golf course was flooded out. Nobody was hurt. Allen . Thank you. Family in san rafael escaped right before a massive mudslide did this to their home. It destroyed it. It happened on Mountain View avenue in san rafael. The homeowners watched in horror as it all happened. Kpix 5s Jessica Flores spoke to them. Jessica, are they okay . Reporter they escaped without a scratch. Remarkably, they saw the whole thing happen from the road here and they are okay. But as you can see, this home behind she left in ruins. John and his family escaped with just the clothes on their backs. Public works told to us leave and thats when mud started coming through there the kitchen window and thats when my wife and son and i ran out of the house with the dog. Reporter the family home built by his parents in the 1950s was crushed by mother natures storm. You know, we just had so much rain the ground is just so wet. Once that first slide happens, just the rest of the hill came down with it. Reporter the face of the hill near Mountain View and grand avenues in san rafael came sliding down, flattening the home, pushing it into the sidewalk. This person was painting a home down the street when he saw the mud coming down. It all started coming down through the side yard, and then it started going into the back of the house. Like running right through it. Then, like, they had a big front bay window and it just smashed it out. A lot of vegetation on the hill. I was more worried about too much vegetation and fire danger than i ever was about it, um, coming down on me. Reporter kids toys, family furniture, generations of memories now buried under a mountain of mud and debris. And the family does have homeowners insurance. They filed a claim. Meanwhile, neighbors say they gathered together and they are trying to get basic necessities for the family in the meantime. Im Jessica Flores reporting live. The rest of that neighborhood is not faring much better. Theres already some muddy rivers cutting through it homes back up to the hill, they have water gushing out of the garages. In the town of sell ton the San Lorenzo River reached major flood stage at nearly 24 feet. When it came to escaping the dangerous rising waters, people had few options. Some grabbed paddles and hopped in kayaks. Searchandrescue helped find people trapped in homes and buildings. Caltrans is working to clear a slide that shut down 17 in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Caltrans is trying to make quick work of a mudslide but even they cant say if its going to be hours or perhaps even days before both directions of highway 17 are reopened. They had to shut down the gas tanks to pump the water out of them earlier today and just down sir Francis Drake a little further west an entire neighborhood was under water. It took a jet ski to be sure they were safe and sound even though they were soggy. Its 8 inches higher than earlier an hour ago. How high was it . The storm shut down several School Districts in the north bay today. Marin and sonoma counties. Schools will reopen but some districts are watching the forecast for thursday. Flood sirens sounded in downtown san anselmo this morning. Take a look at this. The creek in danger of swilling over. You can see the water had reached the top of the bridge here. Police closed down much of the downtown area parted of the street flooded but that was the worst of it. The creek began receding and the all clear was sounded around noon. The closure of niles canyon road in Alameda County is impacting the evenly commute. Crews shut it down earlier today after the nearby Alameda Creek overflowed. Also some rockslides there. No word on when it will re open. A rare sight Yosemite Park rangers had cameras rolling as a rockslide crashed on highway 120. There it goes. No cars were on the road at the time. Highway 120 closed from crane flat to forestville for the reason debris coming down on 140 into the park and highway 41. Visitors are advised to check the road closures before traveling. Roads also a mess in the sierra, too. Its a warmer storm but its slamming the area with rain, sleet and snow at the higher elevations. It turns out all of this will represent about onethird the amount of rainfall that we had today. This is the alemany boulevard exit from highway 280 in San Francisco. Its under about a foot of water now and we have seen trouble all over the peninsula so far today. The ground gave way on this hill above highway 84 this morning bringing down mud, rocks and dirt forcing caltrans to close the roadway to traffic. This is in the hills near la honda. And today crews have been working to shore up the hillside. They actually had to pause their work earlier in the day because the ground was moving. This is the problem well see more of in the days to come. At least were also coming down across trees were also coming down across the bay area today. This one was not far from the mudslide. It fell across both lanes but cars were able to navigate around it. One thing you shouldnt do . Try to navigate around things like this. Youre going to see there the bridge, that is where it goes underneath camino alto and on out into Richardson Bay but this creek is high coming up close to the fences of these houses, the backyards. Its fast enough you could actually kayak this thing and get a pretty good work youth. I have seen all kinds of trash coming down through here some logs and bottles and actually saw an old halloween pumpkin float down true here but this creek is really moving and these folks in these houses back here, they are of course going to be keeping an eye on it throughout the afternoon and the evening.
