If you look around at attendees, Service Members and dates, they are spending most of the time mingling enjoying the night but not dancing yet. These people are excited and eager to hear from their new commanderinchief, donald trump. The californians who voted for him say the rest of America Needs to give him a chance. We should all feel safe as americans first. Reporter i met a couple who came from danville to watch trump take the oath of office. Last friday, they got their inauguration tickets and booked flights out here. Its an exciting day. I felt very honored to be here. Im glad i came. He wants to bring the country together. And yeah, i think everything will be okay. People will change their views once he starts doing things. Reporter these people got tickets, too. This man was giving them away for free. The lee just moved to dc from San Francisco. For me, this means im celebrating our values as americans in terms of the people deciding what they want to do and us doing that in a safe respectable manner. I have mixed emotions about today. I dont know what it means yet. I think we are a both a little i can speak for myself. Its like i dont know whats the next four years looks like for our family, friends families. Um, im just trying to be optimistic. Reporter these sisters came from california last night but not here to celebrate. They are here to march tomorrow. I have two young boys, my sister has two young girls and, you know, its actually being from the bay area, they are just shocked and dont understand how the negative rhetoric, um, that the president had during the election is like who our next president is. Obama had so much class and trump doesnt seem to. Reporter of course well be getting out of our formalwear and into our walking shoes for live coverage. March tomorrow. Allen . Lets not leave the inaugural ball that quickly, melissa. Donald trump used to living in this luxury life but the president ial celebration some are thinking almost considered low key. Reporter donald trump is going to three balls tonight including this one. And that may seem like a lot but remember that bill clinton went to 14 inaugural balls. Now, there are four Service Members on hand to dance with the president and his wife and the Vice President and his wife and we had a chance to talk to some of those Service Members. Its a privilege and honor to have the first dance with the first lady. Its incredible. All my friends are jealous. I cant wait to see what they have to say about it. It could be the foxtrot, waltz, salsa, anything. But im prepared. Practicing the dance moves in my head over and over again. But ill let the Vice President lead. The party is just kicking off here at the Flamingo Conference Center in santa rosa. We can give you a look. Organizers are expecting close to 200 people attending tonight. A lot of smiling happy faces because this is a big night for bay area republicans not just because President Donald Trump is now in office but because im told identifying as a republican, in the bay area, is the elephant in the room literally. A lot of these people coming tonight when they go someplace they never discuss their politics. They never say a word because they know that they will be, um, criticized, made fun of, even called names. Reporter now, tonight north bay republicans attending this event will celebrate by watching or for some of them rewatching the inauguration on a big screen. More importantly a space where they can speak freely with like minded individuals. Its been a long election for them living in the bay area. So this is going to be truly a free celebration where they will be able to discuss, celebrate and have a good night. Cate caugiran, kpix 5. East bay supporters in livermore said they were happy with his address and say he has to win over hearts and minds of those on the other side of the aisle. One woman in particular is looking forward to trump rebuilding the military. I have a son in the marines and it really makes me feel more comfortable that they are going to give them the tools and everything they need and support they need to go their jobs done safely. They are confident trump will make America Great again lets go back to one of the inaugural balls. Theres trump and wife melania greeting the crowds. I have to say the crowd was unbelievable today. You know, i looked at the rain which just never came, you know, we finished the speech, went inside, it poured, then we came outside. The helicopter scene was an incredible scene. An incredible scene. So beautiful. Like from a movie set so beautiful. And then amazingly it rained and then we went out its like god was looking down on us. I will tell you. The caltrain tracks at 16th and mississippi in San Francisco blocked for about 3 hours by this human chain. 11 people were arrested. [ chanting ] in the financial district about 400 people marched down montgomery street meeting one a larger crowd that was at 555 california street. The building partially owned by President Trump. Over a dozen members come from firms represented in this building including some nasty people. No arrests were hide here. Rain, we are told, dispersed the crowd, not the police. There were arrests outside ubers headquarters in San Francisco. Protestors chained themselves to the front door of the building in defiance of the companys ceo. Travis who served as a trump adviser. And kpix 5s jackie ward of San Franciscos u. N. Plaza tonight where protestors are gathering again. Jackie. Reporter allen, they were here around 5 00 and then they actually left around 6 00 blocking the entire width of market street. You can tell though that traffic is flowing normally here tonight. So as you mentioned, these protests have been happening all day and they met at 5 a5 california because President Trump owns 30 of it. Wells fargo and Goldman Sachs are tenants there. And part of the president S Administration have close ties to those banks so thats why those people were there but then it moved here at 5 00 so as they took over the width of market street, they planned to go up to the castro, move to the mission, and then come back through the tenner loin to get to u. N. Plaza. So nearly a dozen protestors have all come together. They say they are here to take a stand against the government. Everything is peaceful. People of all ages and nationalities are out here. Its a Family Affair for some people. They say they believe that this is the kind of action that needs to happen. Our other big story were following tonight a flooding diseaster in the south bay. Acres and acres of land under water several homes swamped with a flooding disaster in hollister because of another levee break along pacheco creek. Kpix 5s betty yu reports. Reporter veronica, this is the second time in a little over a week that people who live or work near lovers lane here are dealing with massive flooding. It is swamping homes and farms and right now there is a mandatory Evacuation Order in place. Take a look at what things look like from chopper 5. This red truck just struggled to get through it all. Homes have been completely surrounded by water just washed out by all this nonstop rain. And fields have been completely covered. Now, the county has made several animal rescues as well as water rescues for residents. Now, to make all of this worse, San Benito County didnt have time to fix the levee break from last week, so todays downpour doubled in size the size of the break. [ pause ] [ no sound ] reporter um, we spoke to a man who said that just about his barn and everything around it is about a foot under water. I just spoke to another man who said he is worried about the smaller animals on his farm. He is not able to locate many of the chickens. Now, as you mentioned, a Flood Warning is in effect for this area through monday afternoon. Live in benicia county, betty yu county. San benito county, betty yu, kpix 5. The chp shut down southbound lanes at Redwood Estates because of a downed tree. One northbound lane also affected. A traffic mess no word on when it could be cleared. Damage from downpours in the Santa Cruz Mountains. A show of defiance against the new president , on the bridge, walkouts in class. Reporter the mudslide of the day in Santa Cruz County is on highway 9, 2. 5 miles south of downtown felton. A 45foot part of the mountain gave way and took a tree with it blocking both lanes for much of the day. Its as bad as i have seen it in a long time. Reporter all over Santa Cruz County there are signs that the mountains cannot take much more. Big slides. Reporter the steep hillside behind ian youngs home just gave way a few days ago. Neighbors pitched in filling 400 sandbags to weigh down several thousand square feet of plastic tarps to protect the hill from the rain. Whats more, its a private road and insurance doesnt cover his mudslide so ian will have to pay for the cleanup and reinforcing of the hillside 200,000 out of pocket. Who has that kind of money sitting around . Nobody. So, yeah, not sure what were going to do. Reporter the slide also blocked the only road in and out of the neighborhood for four families. Stephanie gonzaga and her sister have to park the car and hike a muddy half mile to get home every day. Earlier this week, their dad was driving a truckload full of gravel to repair the road when he lost control and went down a ravine. He actually walked away from the crash. Stephanie hopes the mudslide will be cleared soon. Honestly, whatever time it takes as long as the house is safe. Reporter as for ians home, someone has set up a go fund me page that raised 10,000 so far. In the Santa Cruz Mountains, kiet do, kpix 5. In castro valley, Alameda County fire responded to this mess just about an hour ago. Crews say that the driver of a car got out or actually got hurt after the tree came crashing down. This is on crow canyon road. Barely can see the car under the tree there. The road closed as a result of it. In morgan hill, chopper 5 over a muddy commute. You can see drivers trying to avoid large areas of water. Homeowners may also have a mess to clean up. Several pools formed behind their homes. The zoom river crested this morning before reaching flood stage. The Santa Cruz River crested. Its on the beach. Another sinkhole reported this one on the peninsula in san carlos. Work crews were out early this morning repairing the damage and they wrapped up just a few hours ago. Were not done with the rain yet. No. San lorenzo river thats a trickle usually. Wet times. Theres more ahead, too. The third in a 123 punch coming in tonight is friday night, its coming in about 30 hours from now midnight tomorrow night. There are still Flood Warnings though posted in central sonoma county. Flooding on small streams. Rohnert park in windsor, graton, sebastopol all have a Flood Warning. Heres how it looks from high above the west coast with showers and thunderstorms it will be unwinding tonight. But again this will be intermittent active tonight. Tomorrow we begin to taper off especially midday tomorrow. Futurecast shows it popping up all over. So at least its not unrelenting rain. We get a little break. Living in the bay area, we dont realize maybe how things are in the rest of the country. But we do need to bring our factories and manufacturing jobs back here so we can be more selfsufficient. Kpix 5s da lin is live in oakland. Da. Reporter quite a few demonstrations and School Walkouts here in the east bay area today. One demonstration is happening now. A group of protestors down in that area. They have been marching throughout downtown oakland for the past hour or so. And you can see a lot of Police Officers actually tailing them to make sure they stay peaceful. At this point things have been calm. A cold wet day didnt stop demonstrators from coming out. How do you think the rain is going to affect todays march and rally . I dont think it will affect it at all. People are inflamed. They are outraged. Reporter they were fired up repeating the line [ pause ] why is he not your president . Because he is a clown. He is a fool. He has nothing between his ears. Racist and a sexist and he doesnt like anybody but his self. He is not inclusive. The u. S. Is a country of immigrants. Reporter demonstrators say they know the marchs will not change things. But its a way to stand up to what they claim is a dangerouS Administration. It needs to be recorded that this is a more villified president. We want a country thats about love and solidarity and not about greed and profit. Reporter protestors started early around 7 00. This group blocked the main entrance to the Federal Building in oakland. This organization will represent one of the most dangerous president s of our history. Reporter in east oakland, these Elementary School children walked out of bridges academy. They are too young to understand politics. But they are afraid. [ pause ] reporter the biggest march in the east bay came in the afternoon. Hundreds braved the rain and marched in downtown oakland. We really have no respect for him or love. Reporter there is a large group of protestors now blocking the intersection of clay and 14th streets. We understand Police Officers have just made the announcement to disperse the group and leave the area. In fact, if you can pan over there, see how many Police Officers there are on motor signings and on bikes. They are trying to keep this place under control. They are concerned that this group will go out and cause damage. Its been tense the last 30 minutes. We are not aware of any damage. But Police Officers are taking knee chances. They are blocking and keeping those protestors in the area and dispersing them to keep this area calm. Well keep monitoring this area and if theres any changes well be sure to let you know. Live in downtown oakland, ill send it back to you guys. Da, dan you hear me . Reporter yes. It seems pretty loud there. But all day and it seems like tonight things have been loud but peaceful. Reporter yeah. Thats the case. During the daytime hours protestors a Different Group of people. You have teachers and seniors and folks who are out here doing something good but at night you get bad apples out here some anarchists coming out here to cause trouble. We dont know if thats the case with these protestors but nighttime is typically when things get rowdy and thats why you see so many Police Officers. Keep in mind we do have a new police chief and it looks like the tactic is different. In the past they stayed back to let the protestors do their thing to not try to inflame them. Today i noticed these officers are keeping a close eye staying very close to them and its a lot of Police Officers were talking about. Dozens and dozens of Police Officers staying very close. Indeed. All right, da, thank you. Now, demonstrators gathered on the Golden Gate Bridge today formed a human chain. Organizers called it bridge together golden gate. Kpix 5s Susie Steimle shows us why so many people felt the need to participate. Reporter ever since november 9 its been really difficult, um, and a lot of, um, you know, anxiety and and, um, sadness. I went to a cafe that day to meet a friend and it it was really like you were at a funeral. Everyone was crying. Reporter these women have endured and emotional inner battle. I was up until 5 a. M. With my mouth open and spent the day in my jammies on the couch. I couldnt even go outside. There was this instant feeling of hopelessness. Reporter some are angry. Others in disbelief but today they put all that aside for this moment. Thousands of demonstrators held hands and stretched the length of the Golden Gate Bridge. Each one of them has a big reason to be here. This person is an activist for 40 years. My First Experience in marching was probably 1970. It had to do with the vietnam war. Reporter patty worked for the Obama Campaign both election cycles. Its about making sure Everybody Knows were still here. Reporter sarah is a trial lawyer for battered women in San Francisco. Its been my career standing up for people. Reporter ironically, President Trump inspired them to become more active activists. They are standing up for what they are afraid to lose. I think he is going to be measured by being a salesman and not by being what we traditionally measure president ial leadership by. When he says were going to take america back, when we are going to take the government today is the day where the government goes back to the american people, how is that going to go over he said this is the day its returned to you. And i am your representative so to speak. And then he closed with the most nationalistic speech i have ever heard from anybody being sworn in. He said, buy america and hire america. Everything is going to be America First. You go abroad, we are going to take care of America First. You use investments, were going to take care of America First. We will be a part of the world. Down to walnut creek, down san jose at the airport moderate cells coming in. 48 at concord, 47 in santa rosa. 51 in oakland. Heres whats happening. This is the second in the 123 punch. This low pressure off Northern California will continue to spin showers and moisture into the central part of the state over the next few hours. And then behind it this is the third one. Overnight tomorrow night this will whip up activity tonight and then allow us to take a breather tomorrow afternoon. This is close on its heels and it will begin to increase rain from that just after sunset tomorrow night. Theres the potential for thunderstorms. Well get the most rain out of the third hit in the system thats coming in tomorrow night. On the futurecast heres whats happening. You just see this popping up like popcorn all over the bay area this moist flow over the bay so tomorrow morning, what happens after sunrise saturday morning, this happens more isolated showers, we get a break, and no sooner do we get a break than by 6 00 on saturday night, this is light rain in advance of the offshore rain. We get the heavy stuff coming in around midnight just like we did last night. Its a repeat performance except as i say, theres more moisture in this than we have had in the previous two systems. Not a lot more but more than we have seen. So we got to keep an eye on the rivers again up in guerneville the russian river, napa, down in the Santa Cruz Mountains because it will be wet right through monday. So there are flood alerts both flash flood watches for the entire bay area, ponding on the roads, river storm warning three to six feet of snow above 7,000 feet. Travel delays a certainty heading to the mountains. High surf warnings at the same time for big breakers along the entire coast. Dangerous rip currents and some of the highest waves we have seen in years in the bay area. That would be the Headline News today if it werent for Everything Else was the big waves. It will be wet tonight. The potential for rain and thunder just like we got last night. And a few showers saturday through midday. Well get a little break tomorrow afternoon before storm number 3 barrels in early sunday. By early i mean after midnight tomorrow night. Forecast highs by the numbers which will mostly be in the 50s tomorrow. But tonight, isolated showers, some come down pretty good at times 5. 5 at morgan hill. 57 for san jose tomorrow. 57 at fremont. And again scattered showers through much of saturday. Not so much in the afternoon. Walnut creek 56 degrees. 53 for san ramon and 54 at livermore.
