And according to danko, 29 other crosswalks in El Camino Real in San Mateo County are like this one, crosswalks that are hard to notice even from a short distance away. I would like to see a bridge if possible, like from one side of the road to the other. That would be awesome. Or even lights. Reporter there have been three reported incidents at this very location, two injuries and one fatality. And caltrans says it takes four incidents to make some sort of change. The family is hoping it doesnt take a fourth incident to make safety changes. We did reach out to caltrans to get a comment about the jurys verdict and about crosswalk safety. The family attorney also says caltrans promised to install pedestrian activated stop lights in the crosswalk after two women were seriously injured in that same area back in 2012. Those lights have not yet been installed. Today new fallout after a stunning decision in the criminal case involving the san bruno pipeline blast. Prosecutors cut nearly all of the potential 562 million fine against pg e. Now the maximum penalty would be 6 million. Kpix 5 reporter phil matier in san bruno where a lot of people are asking, why . This is an absolutely stunning development. We have had no explanation from the prosecutors. Reporter for blast survivor carolyn gray its another stab in the heart. Right across the street there where this thats where our neighbors died. And why the prosecution would lower the fine makes absolutely no sense to me. Reporter you met with prosecutors before the trial and during the trial. Did they give you any heads up that there might be change in the strategy . Not at all. Not at all. Pg e said, lets use a cheaper method of testing these pipes in order to save money. Reporter prosecutors arent talking. However, they may have been afraid they couldnt convince the jury that pg e had deliberately cut corners in order to save 261 million which would have triggered the 561 million fine. The judge put very large restrictions on them in the penalty phase of this so might have been very difficult to prove. Reporter and if they failed to prove all 11 points, the fine could be even less than the current 6 million. Who knows . Reporter pg e isnt getting off scotfree. Its already been hit with a record 1. 6 billion penalty from the state. And it paid another 50 million to san bruno to repair the neighborhood where eight people died and 38 homes were destroyed. This was extreme negligence. The best we can hope for is a conviction. She was visiting family in texas when she was shot. In Santa Clara County three gang members are found guilty in the stomping death of a 14 yearold boy. The victim, humberto reyes, did not belong to a gang. His older brother was badly beaten but survived. The brutal attack happened on a Basketball Court at Roosevelt Park in san jose in april of 2012. Family members say the driver of a charter bus that crashed in Merced County had little sleep the night before the accident. Relatives of Mario Vazquez say he had only 3 to 4 hours of sleep. Also they say he worked long hours and may have been losing sleep after the recent death of his wife to cancer. The charter bus had a pole yesterday killing four people and injuring more than a dozen. Chp says the bus driver is in the hospital but would not comment on his injuries or whether he was fatigued. We are struggling paycheck to paycheck. I have two little ones at home, as well. We need the raise. I work two jobs for five years. They are prepared to strike indefinitely. We are going three days out, a week out, as much as it takes but we are going to always drive the message that we need more pay for all the work we are doing. In san jose, devin fehely, kpix 5. The man arrested in a violent takedown by bart police is out on bail. That as bart internal Affairs Investigation gets under way. Michael smith is charged with battery on a Police Officer and resisting arrest. The incident caught on camera here at the embarcadero station last week. Bart police say they were responding to reports of a possible armed robbery. Smith is accused of kicking one officer in the head and throat, biting a second officer and spitting on a third. The witnesses accuse the officers of using excessive force. Smith is scheduled to go on trial later this month. And an alarming report reveals ucberkeley is ranked 14th in the nation for most reported robberies at colleges. The numbers show that there were 11 robberies per 10,000 students at cal. There are nearly 38,000 students at the university. The report released by start class only universities with 5,000 students or more were included in the study.
