Heres what the chief had to say. We have been working very, very hard to try and figure out ways to contend with folks with edged weapons or other weapons trying to create time and distance and apparently this event unfolded very quickly and well be looking to find out why it had to go just its did. Reporter the shooting comes a day after a divided Police Commission once again took up whether or not to arm San Francisco Police Officers with tasers. Thats a nonlethal stun gun that police say might have prevented the need of the use of the gun. That call for tasers, however, meeting with opposition from some officials at city hall who feel that while the stun gun may appear to be the answer, it may also be a step in the wrong direction. We probably need to put practices in place where we are not going to be using guns and i think the jumping to tasers is not where were at yet. I think theres a lot of healing to do about the shootings that have happened already before we start moving on to tasers. Theres other measure that is could be in place that could help with deescalation. Reporter as allen noted, the shooting follows the december shooting of mario woods with a knife and it also follows a previous one in the mission district. Now, this was a controversial video that triggered the entire question about whether or not police should use force, how much force they should use and it also triggered a string of protests and calls for the chief to resign. If the story wasnt complex enough there are other factors. Both of the victims appear to be nonenglish speakers which raises the question of what were they doing in the country . Were they here legally . Then the question of the citys sanctuary law which is also up to debate. A lot of this is going to depend on how you look at this. One would look at it as a police shooting. You said mentally ill. I was going to ask is anybody talking about that component . Not at this point. We have people talking about investigating the shooting and the police use of force but this other one is sitting out there. It is going to happen again. San francisco is just cant make its mind one way or another to do anything about whether its police use of force or the homeless on the streets of San Francisco. Thats not editorializing, thats just a look at the record. It all has to be addressed, got to be addressed. Reporter well see if they do. Thank you. Phil talked about sanctuary city. The final thought between these two hopes. Steve you talked about this before that the team tends to respond when they sense a limit threat. The spurs always represent that. First the spurs have only presented a legitimate threat for the last 19 years. [ laughter ] before that, it was not a big deal. I would think they will play their guys and play well. They have been on a good run. Hopefully we can bounce back from this horrible slump were in. Whos playing tonight . Warriors, spurs. Warriors, spurs. You got a preference .
