Commute alert for b. A. R. T. Riders in the east bay. Chopper 5 over the scene where b. A. R. T. Service had been stopped between bay fare and south hayward. Service was delayed after a train struck and killed a person walking on the track. That delayed service for those headed to and from berryessa, richmond and millbrae. A brush fire prompted authorities to close several lanes on northbound 101 near sausalito. It broke out between an apartment complex and the freeway before 3 30 this afternoon. Chopper 5 was flying over the fire not too long ago. Crews quickly got ahold of it. Firefighters are putting out hot spots at this hour. The damage is done. Traffic is a big problem now, probably the worst time of day for this to happen. Only one northbound lane of highway 101 has been reopened. Thats causing a major delay northbound out of the city. The backup extends all the way across the Golden Gate Bridge and into the city. Here is a live look at the toll plaza. Very foggy out there. Firefighters thought they had this under control overnight. It took off straight toward a neighborhood in antioch around noon. There is a map of that area. Alta vista circle actually in pittsburg. Very close to a row of homes. Chopper 5 was overhead as a finger of the fire started heading straight towards those homes. Luckily there was a decent fire break that did buy crews a little extra time to protect the neighborhood. It burned about 30 acres before firefighters were able to get that fire back under control. Crews from con fire and cal fire did so with the help of helicopter and airplane water drops. Firefighters are going to be on the scene throughout the evening to make sure this fire does not reignite. Now, also of note, this fire was just south of several other vegetation fires that burned in the area overnight. Those fires around Golf Club Road burned at least 11 acres. An investigation into the cause of all these fires is still under way. An air quality advisory has been extended once again for eastern Contra Costa County through tomorrow as smoke from the marsh fire continues to billow over nearby cities like pittsburg. The fire is burning in peet and under ground. Last week fire crews began flooding that marsh by pumping water from the delta. Firefighters will flood that area with water for the next few days. The number of monkeypox cases is going up nationwide including in the bay area. Members of the Gay Community and political groups protested today calling for more Government Action on this outbreak. The cdc says the monkeypox virus has been detected in nearly every state with more than 1800 reported cases. Health experts think the actual number of cases could be much higher. Just like you see in a tsunami video, it filled up the room with water and kept pushing forward straight through to the front door that leads to front street. Police say 20yearold Jonathan Spear man was armed with two rifles, a handgun and hundreds of rounds of ammunition, he shot five people, killing three of them. Police dont know why he did it. He was reportedly facing eviction at the time. Two minutes after the gunman opened fire a man shopping at the mall with his girlfriend pulled out his own gun and shot and killed him. Theyre actually remnants of thunderstorms. It may not look that impressive from here. From the top of the mountains above the Santa Clara Valley towards the southeast, we have had some thunderstorms get as close as san benito. Theyre not threatening the bay proper, but theyre close enough that we can see the clouds. If you look at first alert doppler, theres a lot going on here. A lot of lightning through the sierra and southern california. Look at that blanket there through the desert right now going through the mojave. The closest this has come has been through san benito. We might see an isolated thunderstorm, but perhaps about that close. We can watch it on the futurecast. You can see how this all falls apart. If you notice the weird looking clouds, thats where its coming from. Here is the most impactful cloud with all the low clouds over the golden gate. You can see it coming over the shoulder of the Marin Headlands there. Thats classic, mid july in full force here. This helped to cool the temperatures a bit today, if youre near the water. If youre inland like livermore, you havent noticed any improvement yet. Concord and livermore still in the mid 90s. Those are rightnow numbers. Daytime highs coming in the next half hour.
