They say a fan stole a backpack from a Security Guard and this whole fight has had repercussions today. A Security Guard has lost his job. That Security Companys relationship with the as is in question. And police have launched an investigation. It was quite a mess. Reporter Will Martinez thought he had a decent view of the battle of the bay last night. Instead, he had front row seats to the side show. Security reporter snapchatted videos of a Security Guard punching a fan and pulling her down by the hair. You see fights but never like this between security and fans. Reporter Oakland Police confirmed a fan took a Security Guards backpack while that officer was on duty. While another Security Guard the woman in this video confronted a fan about the stolen bag, a fight broke out. Eyewitness video Shows Security officers pacing up and down this section before the fight broke out. Will says the Security Guard initiated the confrontation. She was more vocal about getting the truth and figuring out who or what took her stuff or whatever. He was very vocal. I think she started it. Reporter that Security Guard has been let go. She was an employee of ussa, the Parent Company of staff pro. Staff pro released this statement, quote, we regret the actions of a rogue employee affected oakland fans in a negative way. The employee involved in the confrontation has been terminated. Staff pro will have to add guards to make up the difference. Ussa says this employee passed her background check and had no previous issues. Will says this wont keep him from coming back. Even after the situation, im not scared of going to the coliseum because of this. I still fill fine going over there. Reporter this Security Company is one of the largest in the country. They cover everything from the nfl to the oscars and they say theyve had a tenyear relationship with the as, 800 games, and this is the first time that theyve had an issue with a guard. But feel devin fehly says the city is issuing fines even though they have no proof. This sounds like guilty until proven innocent. Reporter yeah, exactly right. Three families in the south san jose neighborhood say theyve received hefty 500 fines for allegedly setting off illegal fireworks for the fourth of july or afterwards. The city says they received hundreds of complaints but ultimately issued fewer than 50 citations. I just was furious. I couldnt believe somebody could report something online and automatically id get a ticket. And its 500. Reporter this resident says shes never set off fireworks since she was a child. Amy and her neighbors say the citys cabbingdown on illegal fireworks is poorly designed, reliant on anonymous reporting and unsubstantiated allegations that shift it is burden of proof to the accused. Theyre just issuing these citations. Theres no investigation. Nothing from the city officials. Reporter three families in amys neighborhood received citations. All say theyre innocent but are furious they have to pay the 500 fine for the first offense before even challenging the citation in court. A spokesperson for the city says they received more than 1,000 complaints but only issued 45 citations. When there was photo or video evidence, multiple reports, or at least a followup conversation with the reporting party. People who are accusing dont need proof. But the people accused have to pay a fine to prove theyre innocent. Its backyards and it needs to change. Backwards and needs to change. Two Police Officers were shot near yuba city. They were checking out a report that someone was giving out pot plants. This happened around 9 00 this morning. And this information just into our newsroom. The suspect who shot the deputies has been found dead inside the home after a barricade situation that lasted most of the day. We still dont know if he died of his wounds suffered in the shootout or if he took his own life. Campbell police are depending on an officers decision to hold an unarmed man at gunpoint for ten minutes. The man was a passenger in a car that had been pulled over for speeding on 101 last week. The motorcycle officer pulled his gun when the man reaches under his seat. While the officer waited nearly ten minutes for backup to arrive, the passenger pleads with the officers to put the gun away. Why are you still pulling the gun out on me . I understand. No, i dont. How about another chance of thunderstorms . All right, paul, thanks. Whales increasingly struck by ships in the bay. And it can be deadly. How researchers are taking matters into their own hands. Tagging whales trackers. Plus, where ferry riders are being hit with higher rates in the parking lot. And how a change in the law could save the lives of children left behind in hot cars. Entangled whales. Are happening more and more frequently off the california coast. Humpbacks are the whales that reports of entangled whales are happening more and more frequently off the californian coast. Take a look at these pictures. They were taken less than two weeks ago near the oregon border. This whale was all caught up in fishing line and anchors and buoys and was struggling to swim. It took rescuers eight hours to cut all those lines away. In 2016, there were more than 70 reported cases of entangled whales. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says that most of these cases happen in the bay area as well as near saint louis obispo and sonoma counties. And being caught in fishing lines and anchors are not the only problem these whales are facing. They also get struck by fishes. Emily turner is live in marin with researchers plans to keep whales from being hit. Emily . Reporter they have to understand them first, their patterns and movements. Then they can go from there. Their goal is to see how they interact with ships and Everything Else in and out of the golden gate. Theres another whale over there [ scream ] reporter theyve shown up in record numbers. Although fun to watch, they could also be in danger in the bay. The likelihood for mortality of humpback whales in that situation is extremely high. Reporter thats why for the first time researchers tagged whales inside the golden gate. This is video from the Cascadia Research collective which tagged three whales to track their depth, range, and timing. Theres a lot of three dimensional information they can gather. Thats important when youre putting whales in this extremely confined space as a lot of large vessels. Reporter that information is concerning researchers say. The bay under the bridge is about 400 feet deep. But whales only dive a maximum of 100 feet. The big cargo ships have a depth of anywhere from 10 to 35 feet. With up to 9,000 ships going through every year, it makes for a tight squeeze. Theres not much clearance between whale and ship. That means that, you know, theres the high potential for collision and mortality ensuing from that. Reporter like this whale that washed ashore here. Its vertebrae broken and ribs shattered. The more information researchers have, they can apply it to the marine sanctuarys efforts to craft new regulations. They do have in place an optional slowdown for ships coming through the golden gate. Theyre asked to slow down to 10 knots. But so far, theyve only had mixed success with that. Starting today, to park in residential neighborhoods around the Ferry Terminal in alameda, you need a permit. Otherwise, parking is limited to four hours. Theres a 250space parking lot.
