Bart says all of their train cars now have Real Security cameras. The Transit Agency installed the last one today. Kpix 5s Juliette Goodrich live in dublin tonight to explain what they dont do that might actually surprise you. Reporter hi, veronica. The next time youre on a bart train and you see the cameras know theyre up and operational and theyre recording. And yes, they may act as a deterrent but really the only time theyre going to be handy is after a reported crime has occurred. Out with the decoy cameras and in with brandnew working security cameras on all 669 bart trains. Four cameras per train, all of them installed and ready to record. And they provide very good quality images. So if something happens on board a car, police can pull it. We now have video of you. We have your image that we can share with police. Reporter barts dummy cameras came to light after a Fatal Shooting on a bart train january 2016. There was no video of the murder. The only still photo taken was from the platform. The killer is still at large. Youre on cameras multiple angles with clear images. Its because of these cameras we were able to arrest two suspects from the coliseum robberies. Reporter now that they have these cameras installed on all bart trains, the question is how many people are monitoring the camera feed . So if there is a crime in progress, will there be anyone to monitor the feed live time . No. Thats just not possible right now. We have to have more reliable wifi service with high security. If we need to retrieve a video we physically go out to the camera unit and download the video. Reporter bart employees can monitor live camera feeds in barts maintenance shop from barts platforms and in bart elevators. But not on the trains. Because its a recorded feed, if an incident happens on your train youll need to report the car number which is above those doors when you contact bart police. The new train cars the train operator can punch in and see each car live from his cab. Thats a huge improvement. We dont have that in these old cars. Reporter so next time you get on a bart train look up and see what bart car youre on just for reference. Also, those new bart cars about a half dozen are supposed to be unveiled at the end of the year. That will you allow the bart operator to actually see whats going on in each individual car in real time. In dublin, Juliette Goodrich, kpix 5. President trump will visit paris next month.
