Reporter evacuation have been lifted but this street right here tehama is still closed and this is the notice of violation right here. It basically is asking extra engineers to stabilize the situation and we are told thats what they have been doing all day. Reporter the construction nightmare happened 36 stories high. A 2,000 pound concrete slab tilted dangerously over the city below prompting San Francisco Fire Department to evacuate 16 buildings in the area. And after hours of uncertainty, the builder said they secured the problem. Its very unusual and it seems based on what i have been told so far to be an equipment failure that nobody really was able to predict. Reporter today, the San Francisco Building Department wants more from the developer, hines. Building inspectors issued this violation. The Department Says a climbing machine failed causing the platform to tilt. This violation requires engineers to stabilize the rooftop structure and submit a report detailing all the repairs and until the company does, it wont be able to resume construction on the high rise. What they were going to do today is actually remove that timing machine, go back and restore the alignment of the floor, and then they will rebuild the machine to complete the job. Reporter the department of Building Inspections says this is the first violation for the builders at the tehama street development. And cal osha is also on scene basically evaluating the situation making sure its safe for workers. Jessica flores, kpix 5. Up to Lake Oroville where the water level is now 32 feet below the damaged emergency spillway. The department of Water Resources started reducing the outflow. Meanwhile, crews are working around the clock to finish repairs before the next round of rain. And they are using cranes and barges to remove debris and sediment from the diversion pool. The goal is to restore the normal flow of water. Now, while crews are making progress, fema and the National Guard are on standby in case the spillway fails. We do stand ready that, if necessary, well be prepared to surge resources in for whatever the public needs and in order to ensure that everyone is safe. Wet weather is being blamed for a Chain Reaction crash involving two big rigs on the nimitz freeway. The first truck driver lost control striking another big rig. Two people in that vehicle were ejected from the cab. Whats more, they fell about 40 feet from the deck of the elevated freeway. One had major injuries. The winter rain has led to a bumper crop of poisonous mushrooms. The diagnosis is sometimes deadly for people who mistakenly eat them. Kpix 5s devin fehely on a doctor trying to improve those odds. Reporter it is one of the most poisonous mushrooms on the planet and if not properly treated eating the death cap is a death sentence. When the kidney gets poisoned, as well as the liver and gi tract, then a poor outcome becomes inevitable. And that is in no small part to the pioneering efforts of dr. Todd mitchell who helped develop a potentially life saving treatment plan. A secret witness in the robert durst murder trial turned out to be an old friend who testified today. The real estate tycoon confessed to killing their mutual friend out of necessity. Durst is charged in the executionstyle murder of susan berman in 2000. Advertising executive nick chavin testified today durst admitted to him in 2014 he killed berman adding, quote, it was her on me. I had no choice. Berman was an l. A. Based writer who once worked here at kpix 5. Police believe durst shot her because she knew too much about the disappearance of his first wife in 1982. A longtime friend of the San Bernardino terrorist attackers is now facing 25 years in prison. Today enrique marquez, jr. , pleaded guilty to providing the highpowered rifles to syed farook and his wife tashfeen malik. They then used those weapons to kill 14 people and wound 22 others in december 2015 mass murder. There was no evidence that marquez, jr. , had any prior knowledge of the attack. Reporter caltrans has their hands full with a series of road closures so lets start in Scotts Valley where a massive mudslide on highway 17 last week is still affecting the commute. The highway is down to one lane in each direction between vine hill road and sugarloaf road and this caused up to twohour delays in the area on northbound 17 headed up towards san jose. Also, take a look at this amazing sky drone 5 video of highway 35. You can see a huge chunk of that roadway has given way and caltrans still coming up with a repair plan. Okay. Moving over now to highway 37 in novato, this is still closed between atherton avenue and highway 101 after major flooding in the area. Crews are doing emergency repairs now to prevent future flood damage. Westbound 37 traffic divert off at atherton avenue to give commuters a direct route back on to 101 and highway 1 is closed in multiple sections in the north bay. We have five different weather systems that will impact us starting this morning and lasting through next wednesday but theres only one bringing the potential for significant rainfall and that would be next monday.
