New at 5 00 a sad choice in the search for a missing 18 yearold driver whose car went into the Alameda Creek. Today crews recovered the car but no sign of the young woman. The search area is expanding to include the entire length of the Alameda Creek all the way to the San Francisco bay. Reporter for four days authorities have been searching niles canyon trying to find a missing young woman named Jayda Jenkins of tracy whose car was found yesterday upsidedown in the rushing water. We came in came here with the best of intentions to do this recovery operation. We were hopeful, we were optimistic, that we could do this recovery today. Reporter the car became accessible today after flow was reduced to two dams upstream. When the vehicle was pulled to shore the news was worse. Once we recovered the vehicle. We looked inside and were unable to find our missing person. I cant tell you how disappointed we are right now. Reporter they say her seatbelt was unbuckled. She possibly escaped the car. They vow to search from point of entry to the bay if necessary. Jaydas family and friends have been part of the search and spotted the car. Until i find her, she is coming home. Its not that she is not. She is coming home. Reporter but that effort will be more difficult because water managers at del valle and calaveras reservoirs say they cant hold back any more runoff and at dusk the spillways will again be opened. Her school issued a statement saying its community is praying for a miracle. This just in. 7 people hospitalized after a serious Automobile Accident in oakley. Chopper 5 over the scene just a few minutes ago. Two vehicles involved there. You can see the front of one of the cars was completely smashed in. Five of the victims are high school students. We are told it happened in front of Freedom High School about 3 30 this afternoon. Officials say there have been crashes at this intersection in the past. Well, the storms are done for now. But the damage is everywhere on our roads. Bay area drivers are in for a bumpy ride as a result. Potholes turned streets and highways into mine fields. Kpix 5 reporter kiet do on the rules when it comes to who pays for these pothole repairs. Kiet. Reporter yeah. Most of the time its you and me that pay for our own potholes. Here in the bay area we have some of the highest repair bills in the nation at about 1,000 per vehicle per year. But there is a way that you might be able to get caltrans to cover some of that cost. At calderon tire in san jose potholes mean business is rolling right along. Lewis dixon hit a pothole on an exit ramp off highway 17 and shredded his tire. The repair will cost him 250. I didnt have a wreck after hitting that hole. I almost lost control of the car. Reporter which brings us to a program that few people know about where drivers can file a damage claim against caltrans. Caltrans says, if you feel that you have lost money or property and a result of any action or inaction by caltrans, and your claim is for 10,000 or less, you can file your claim directly with caltrans. You have to get two repair estimates and then wait 45 days for processing. Caltrans says each case is taken on a casebycase basis and the damage from new potholes likely will not get covered. If somebody hit a pothole, say, 15 minutes after it developed, then, you know, thats certainly not our fault. But if its been out there for most of the time, then thats another question. Reporter for lewis, he is in too much of a rush and filing a claim is too much trouble. He will let it go this time. We pray for rain. We need the water. And i say, this is one of the prices you have to pay for no long suffering with the drought. Reporter and so back in 2015, caltrans got about 4,000 claim requests. They approved about 10 of them. Slick Road Conditions forced ski and snowboard area in badger pass to shut down today. People are being urged to stay off the roads. Theres so much snow in the Sierra Nevada right now that crews are running out of places to dump it. A big storm dumped 20 inches in tahoe city over the weekend. Plow drivers have been working hard to clear snow from the roads but now the big problem they are having is they are running out of space to put it. Mountains of snow. The citys Public Utilities department is working to try to find a new storage spot. I think its nice to have that problem though, right . Its good to have the problem, yeah, i mean, theres no quick way out of a drought except the way were going right now, right, paul . Theres a ton of snow in the mountains and paul is going to let us know if theres even more on the way. Typically a big drought ends with an equally large flood and we have a flood of snow if there is such a thing over the past couple of weeks. California snowpack for the entire state is 197 of average. Nearly double what we typically have this time of the year and were actually railroad ahead of what we expect the snowpack to be in april. Now, look at some of the individual ski resorts. Mount rose has received 461 inches of snow this year. Wow. Boreal more than 400. Sierra at tahoe 330. A lot of snow. We are getting a break. Reporter he points to where this giant log was hit several times by an unknown boat before he and his army corps of engineers came and pulled it from the bay. This huge pile of giant trees is getting larger by the day. All washed down into the bay by flooding. Everything thats in this pile and that pile over there came off the john dillard in the last two weeks, two weeks. Reporter the john dillard is one of two highly specialize the boats equipped with cranes that are trying to keep the shipping lanes clear of debris and its a big job. Our biggest concerns i think are the ferries that travel about 30 knots. Reporter oh, yeah. Got about 300 people on board. Reporter wow. Ferry captains are on high alert for debris. They travel before dawn and after dark. So avoiding debris can be very hard. And this is what happens when a ferry accidentally hits a submerged log. In this case, a giant propeller was damaged. Authorities say he was killed in a driveby shooting last night along princeton street and smalley avenue in hayward. Were learning the victim has been identified as lamar murphy. These are photos from his facebook page. He was pronounced dead at the scene. It was raining at the time of the shooting. So investigators say they have been having a hard time tracking down witnesses. Right now Santa Cruz Police searching for three thieves who used a concrete saw to cut their way into a storage shed. These surveillance photos showed sparks flying as the masked men removed the doors, stealing landscaping equipment yesterday morning early, at the [ indiscernible ] de la vega parks and rec department. They caused about 2,000 worth of property damage. Stanford University Football fans are in for a huge sticker shock next season. The university jacking up season ticket prices almost 200 . Because by the time we hit saturday, a ridge of High Pressure not close, sitting directly over the bay area which means sunshine in many spots, many of us will enjoy temperatures in the low to mid 60s.
