As we have been reporting, San Francisco is in the process of tearing down all homeless encampments citywide. A game of cat and mouse has been going on for a year. There are about 80 homeless encampments in the city that move around each time theres a sweep. After neighbors in the mission expressed outrage, the city formed a team and is sending out warnings. One supervisor plans to have them cleared out in the next few weeks four months tops. Contra costa county a car crash prompted a hazmat response and a shelter in place order for one martinez neighborhood thats because one of the vehicles involved was carrying pool chemicals and as one fire captain tells us, that spill set off quite a reaction. We had a twovehicle accident on pacheco boulevard in martinez. One of the vehicles was carrying pool chemicals which subsequently spilled and reacted creating a cloud of chlorine gas. Roughly 20 homes and the nearby shell refinery were ordered to shelter in place as crews decontaminated the area. Two people had minor injuries as a result of the crash, not the spill. Three carjackings suspects are under arrest after leading police on a chase through San Francisco. It all started around 3 30 this morning at 24th avenue and clement street. Officers tried to pull over the car but the driver sped off leading them on a sevenmile chase through second and king streets. Reporter her 850 bill nothing compared to this florida womans more than 9,000 bill featured in one of a series of recent reports in clevelands the plain dealer. The person was accused of just ungodly amount of data, more data you could use a month. Theres definitely precedent for verizon and the other carriers really charging these kinds of overage fees. Reporter but theres a recent spike in data over angles. The cleveland paper has reportedly received thousands of complaints from across the country most from verizon customers although some from at t and tmobile as well and we found Public Information that reveals a significant spike in cell phone billing complaints to the fcc this week alone, although this data includes all carriers not just verizon. The fcc says, quote, we are aware of consumer complaints to the fcc on this issue. We will decline to comment on whether or not we would investigate this matter. Meanwhile, its still unclear whats causing the overages. Just said maybe 65 of your data has been used. Reporter late last year, we reported on a similar spike in some bills due to an automatic upgrade in apples new operating system. Apples wifi assist automatically switches to cell data when a wifi signal is weak but it seems unlikely that feature is contributing to this recent spike in verizon charges because its been around since last year. Other possible culprits . Socalled vampire apps that run in the background using data around the clock and any sort of streaming video uploading or downloading including Facebook Live and periscope. A lot of this is sort of the changing patterns how we use our cell phones. Reporter we should note that many with over angles insist the sudden spikes began without any change to the way they use their phones. Verizon says, it has talked with the customer who reported the 9,000 monthly wireless bill and resolved it to her satisfaction. Temperatures at the coast arent going to move much at all and if you are hanging out near the bay you will stay close to your seasonal averages for midseptember. The warmest weather away from the water, the hottest weather in the mid90s that will be saturday and sunday. Highs tomorrow good stuff, wine country napa, 84 degrees.
