Theres a state of unrest and people are frustrated. Reporter with nearly 300 Court Workers on strike, managers and even the judges themselves are pitching in filling out the paperwork that keeps the wheels of justice spinning. Our Mission Statement is to provide a fair system, service to our public. Unfortunately, with or without this strike, we are just unable to do it. Reporter a spokesman for the court system says they have a plan to make sure the most important work gets done. Suspects, for example, dont miss a 48hour deadline to appear before a judge before they automatically would be set free. But there are signs that the system is buckling under the strain. The Sheriffs Department says its been a struggle to get the paperwork for search warrants processed. Problems are likely only to get worse. More than 600 firefighters are trying to contain it. The Canyon Creek Campground and a nearby stretch of highway 28 remain closed. Meanwhile, that fire burning near big sur continues to grow. It burned 51,000 acres and is 27 contained. One person has died and nearly 60 homes have been destroyed. Thousands of structures are threatened. The fire started nearly two weeks ago.
