Regina jeffries of antioch was shot and killed last week at a gathering downtown to remember two drowned teens. She was 16 years old. This morning a horsedrawn carriage led a procession through the streets of oakland and carried her casket to a church for a funeral. Hundreds of people came to honor the high school student. Police dont believe she was the intended target of the shooting on franklin street on june 14. Three other young people were wounded. House democrats are calling their gun control sitin a success even though it didnt lead to the votes they wanted. It ended today more than 24 hours after it began. They wanted republicans to allow votes for a series of gun control measures that had already failed in the senate. Some held signs with images of victims of mass shootings. The split 44 decision leaves a Lower Court Ruling in place preventing the president s plan to spare millions of Illegal Immigrants from deportation while giving them work permits. The Supreme Court tied left unresolved the issue but also tested the limits of executive powers. I think its heartbreaking for the millions of immigrants who made their lives here, who raised families here, who hope for the opportunity to work, pay taxes, serve in our military. This is a win for the constitution. Its a win for congress. And its a win in our fight to restore the separation of powers. President s dont write laws. Congress writes laws. But a search warrant is not necessary for a breathalyzer test which the court deemed less intrusive. Californias current law requires suspected drunk drivers to take a blood test if they refuse the breathalyzer. We are keeping a close eye this evening on that big vote in the united kingdom. Millions of ballots are being counted right now to determine whether the uk will remain a member of the european union. Advocates say it will protect uk independence. Police say a man driving a stolen white honda was trying to pass another car and hit a woman in her 40s riding a bicycle. The car was found a short time later band on the on equestrian way. Police say the driver ran a red light before hitting a woman on a bicycle she was in her 20s. The driver was arrested for vehicular manslaughter and felony hitandrun. Las Vegas Sands Corporation proposed this 1. 4 billion stadium. 750million of that would come from a new tax on hotel rooms in vegas. That would be the largest subsidy ever for an nfl stadium. The raiders would contribute 500 million and the private investors including sands would chip in but oakland not giving up on the raiders. The mayor pushing a plan to build a new stadium to replace the coliseum. But heres mark davis in a promotional video released in may and put together for the vegas dome proposal. Tiffany li, her boyfriend and their friend were supposed to enter a plea today but were granted more time. They were arrested last month suspected of killing 27year old keith green. Green disappeared a day after meeting with li who is greens exgirlfriend and the mother of his two children. He is a great father. He loved both his daughters and took care of them. He cooked for them, took them to school, he spent a lot of time with both his daughters. This is devastating for those two little girls too. All three defendants are being held without bail and are expected to enter a plea next month. Passengers may not be getting the same safety protection in some small suvs as the drivers do. The insurance insurance says new crash tests show there may be a big gap in safety. Consumerwatch reporter julie watts explains. Reporter madeline bought her honda crv based on its safety record. She had no idea it might be unsafe for her passengers. I take a lot of friends shopping. Reporter new crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety show a number of small suvs including the honda crv may not offer the same protections to passengers as drivers in certain types of frontal crashes. Only one, the 2016 hyundai tucson, passed with a grade of good in crash tests involving the right corner of the vehicle. The 21st century 15 toyota rav 4 received the only poor rating. Safety structures on the drivers side are not the same on the passengers side. We want them to provide the protection as for the driver. Reporter the Institute Crash tested 7 types of suvs. They hope for change. Im a very careful driver. Now im going to be very conscious of that, which is not a good way to drive. Reporter now, more than 1600 passengers died in frontal crashes in 2014. This is one of the first times the institute conducted passenger side testing. The other suvs tested were the 2015 buick encore and mazda cx35 and the 2014 nissan rogue and subaru forester. The cdc made a major announcements regarding the flu vaccine and children. Kpix 5 morning news anchor kenny choi on the type of vaccine that may not work. Reporter many kids around the u. S. Will have to feel the sting of the flu shot this fall. A Cdc Advisory Committee has voted that the nasal spray vaccine flu misshould not be used in the upcoming flu season. It hasnt worked at all in our hands. We havent see any data that indicates the flumist vaccine is effective. The shot is effective. Reporter a third of children get the nasal spray vac even each year. It was more protective than shots for children in the early going. Health officials dont know why spray isnt not as effective now and many doctors and hospitals have already placed their orders for flu vaccine. That may be a challenge this fall. It may be that a doctor has to call to make sure they get the vaccine they need but there probably wont be shortages. Reporter the manufacturer has different findings.
