Reporter the suspect is a hispanic male wearing a San Francisco giants shirt about 6 feet tall. As of 3 30 this afternoon no one had been taken into custody. Agencies from all over the bay area are now involved and so far, the conditions of the officers is not known. Those are at hospitals now. We have multiple agencies here to support us and i cant say enough to thank all the agencies who came out today. [ crying ] this is a Major Incident something we dont see all the time. And it really does touch all of us. Reporter back out here live, youre looking at the command center, the mobile command center, for not only Fremont Police but the Alameda County sheriffs office. As you can imagine, this is a very intense scene, a very emotional scene because their officers are down and they are now in, um, one of them at least in surgery. The other one we are a waiting confirmation on that persons status. The Fremont Police department wont say any more because they want to respect family privacy which we understand. In the meantime the main focus is on finding the person who pulled the trigger and the other suspect who is potentially involved in this. Thats why theyre keeping everyone sheltering in place and they are trying to find this push and have turned the Search Mission over to the Alameda County sheriffs department. Emily, its obviously a fluid situation there and things are changing by the minute. By the way, our best to the officers and their families tonight as this goes on. But, um, im wondering, the second location, um, on roberts avenue, i believe, it it appears to be a several Police Armored vehicles, um, are are, um, sort of holding a perimeter on one location, appears to be a house, a residence. Do we know if in fact they believe a suspect is in that house . Is there any kind of a a standoff going on with one of the suspects at least there . Reporter at this point, they said they are not going to talk to us about anything tactical. In fact, they have asked our news helicopters to get out of the way because were able to see what theyre doing and they certainly dont want the suspects out there to be able to know what their plan is. Um, if something happens, they said they will let us know in the next hour for certain but at this point were not sure if they have any idea exactly where the suspects are. They feel confident, though, that the suspects are in the area which they have contained. So hopefully, it will just be a matter of time before theyre caught. And they have a vehicle, um, in custody and it has a license plate and theres information there and so the investigation continues. Multiple Police Agencies including police from east Bay Regional Parks rushed to help the officers who were shot. Officer standing by at the fremont boulevard, ramp shut down. If you want me to run a break, i will. Minutes ago police gave us an update on their conditions. Both officers were shot. They are confirming that. We are being told that one of the officers is in surgery as we speak. We dont know the exact condition of the other officer. These are live pictures from san jose regional hospital. No official confirmation once again. We are giving you the very latest. But we believe at least one of those officers is being treated here. You can see the emergency vehicles that are outside. In the past few minutes, we have seen heavily armed Police Officers working also a drainage area appears to be a grassy field there using police dogs in that area to check for any suspects. Developing in the south bay, san jose firefighters called to battle a grass fire that spread to a nearby business. That fire started at around 1 30 this afternoon on south white road and milford way and quickly spread to an auto parts store. Kpix 5s devin fehely on why that was not easy. Small bushes, light vegetation back there. So thats where the initial start is. Reporter from the bushes behind the auto parts store, the fire and flames spread quickly into the attic and roof threatening the building. But its whats inside this store that had firefighters scrambling. A potentially dangerous cocktail of car supplies that could easily set the building ablaze if they didnt work quickly. Oil, antifreeze, all these potentially caustic and toxic materials that are in there. You want to make sure that we front load that with enough personnel and equipment thats going to knock this down and out as soon as possible. Reporter the Fire Department would eventually call in more than 75 firefighters and nearly two dozen fire engines and trucks. The fire was quickly contained and everyone got out safely. The Fire Department says with temperatures flirting with triple digits in the next few days, the risk is only going up. Just an hour agoma run county sheriffs deputies ga, marin county sheriffs deputies said they were searching a san mateo home earlier this morning but they did not find him. We have one subject who is still outstanding and wanted for the crime of murder related to our investigation. Reporter the two Novato High School students and suspects in last weeks murder and attack were arraigned in court today. 16yearold he had win guevera being arrested by sheriffs deputies and 17yearold Juan Carlos Martinez henriquez. Both will be tried as adults for the murder of edwin jose Ramirez Guerra and attempted murder of another teenager. Investigators say guerra died after he was shot in the head and stabbed last wednesday in a hiking trail bordering a country club. The other teenager was badly hurt but is expected to survive. I think its a brutal murder. Thats all i can say about it. Theres nothing good about it. Reporter and now were learning more details about how brutal this attack was. Yesterdays criminal complaint accused the suspect Martinez Enriquez of, quote, intentionally causing permanent disability and disfigurement and deprivation of a limb, body member of the person. One said they wanted to use a machete to chop off arms and heads. There is still one more suspect on the loose this man 19year old javier guevera. He is considered armed and dangerous. Investigators say he is a known ms13 gang member and a relative of suspect edwin guevera. The suspects or defendants in this case didnt enter any pleas. But they will be back in court next week. Huge traffic tieups today after a sinkhole shuts down a major Northern California interstate. So far, as you can see behind, all the traffic, its just piled up. Coming up, just how bad is it . Our reporter drives us drew the detour. Plus, two People Killed on the ucla campus. The clues at the scene and what were learning about the pairs relationship. ,, for a gunman. Terrified students were forced to hid hundreds of officers guns drawn swarmed ucla searching for a gunman. Terrified students were forced to hide in buildings. We now know two people are dead in a murdersuicide. It happened in the Engineering Building on campus this morning. Right now, cbs reporter Chris Martinez has new information about the victims, a student and a professor. Reporter police with weapons drawn were seen running across the campus of ucla after a shooting left two people dead. At about 10 a. M. , a homicide and a suicide occurred in the engineering facility engineering part of the ucla campus on the south side. Reporter two men were found dead inside a small office at the center of the schools los angeles campus. Also at the scene, a gun and a possible suicide note. Cbs news has learned the victim was Professor William klug, the suspects a student. The motive isnt yet determined. The school was placed on lockdown while police secured the campus. Students preparing for finals next week were told to shelter in place. I got up and ran and then police told me to run further. Its horrific. To have it happen here, its just crazy. Reporter hundreds of officers responded to the campus. The lockdown was lifted after about two hours. There are no suspects outstanding. And no no continuing threat to uclas campus. The case will now go to homicide investigators. Chris martinez, cbs news, los angeles. We are told the campus will reopen tomorrow. Check out the work being done on that massive sinkhole on i5 in the central valley. Crews have taken out an entire section of the roadway as they try to find out what caused it. The sinkhole opened up yesterday morning on northbound i5 near tracy. Traffic is being diverted on to highway 33. Kpix 5s don ford takes a look at the delays causing headaches along that detour. Reporter the detour begins here all northbound traffic squeezing down to highway 132. Its little more than a country road. This time of day, most vehicles on the interstate are big rig trucks. Hundreds of them twisting and turning in the detour trying to get back on track, but then everybody ends up on highway 33, even smaller but theres a big problem here. Theres a stop sign here and its kind of slowing everybody down. And so were trying to keep everybody moving. Reporter officer slate is one of three chp officers assigned to keep the detour moving. Under his supervision, drivers are directed to momentarily ignore the stop sign. Caltrans shows up and takes over while slate dashes away to the next logjam. So far as you can see behind all the traffic, it just piles up. Reporter there is good news. Traveling between los angeles and the bay area is not affected because most drivers use i580 connecting through livermore. Eventually the detours do lead you back to the northbound i5 onramp. The search continues for at least one suspects who shot two Police Officers in fremont. This all started during a traffic stop along washington boulevard. Police say the suspect or suspects or maybe more than one backed into the officers car during that traffic stop, shots were fired, and the officer went down. Responding officers came and, um, after another confrontation shots were fired again and a Police Detective was shot multiple times. Now, one of the officers we are told is in surgery. They are not releasing the condition of the Second Police officer. We dont know what that persons status is right now. People in the area are being told to shelter in place as Police Continue to search the area. And you can see its a very fluid situation. Thats the safeway parking lot and this is more of a residential location. So several locations now where police units have been staked out and everybody is at the ready as you can see.
