Speeding driver trying to flee police ended up crashing his car into a golf course this morning and killing a pedestrian. Then he tried to get away again. It happened at the Delta View Golf Course in pittsburg. Kpix 5s Juliette Goodrich tells us the suspect didnt get very far. Reporter this 65yearold woman who was killed was walking on this sidewalk when this driver came down the road. You can see the skidmarks. Then he crashed over the sidewalk into the fence on to the golf course. And as if thats not enough, he continued driving on the golf course to leave his car over by the putting green before he took off. Hole 9 on the Delta View Golf Course the scene of a murder investigation. This after the driver of a blue camaro crashed through the golf course fence after hitting and killing a 65yearold woman who was walking along the sidewalk. This driver was driving way too fast for the Road Conditions here. Reporter the woman died at the scene. The driver abandoned his camaro on the golf course and took off. The driver fled for at least 100 yards in his vehicle on the golf course before he fled from the vehicle. Our officer was able to get that description out to responding officers and he was detained a few blocks away. Reporter aroun 7 45 this morning just before the fatal crash a Police Officer spotted the driver speeding. The officer pursued the car but just for a few blocks. The officer didnt know where this person was coming from or why this person was even speeding. Definitely not normal behavior to pass a police car and do that. He intended to stop it realized very quickly that this person was not going to stop and the danger to the public was more significant if he continued to chase this individual. Reporter most of the day west leland road was closed and the investigation continued. And the golf course was closed today while this investigation continued, as well. As for the Victim Police have not released her name. She is 65. As for the suspect, he faces murder charges. He is behind bars right now. He does face felony hitandrun and he reportedly was driving on a suspended license. In pittsburg, Juliette Goodrich, kpix 5. A homeless man was shot at several times near the cal campus. Surveillance video caught the suspect in the black hat firing his gun last thursday from a gas station on kittredge and fulton streets. The homeless man, who cannot be seen in the video, wasnt injured. Investigators believe there was an argument between the two before the shooting. The union that represents santa clara jail guards is suing sheriff laurie smith according to a report in the mercury news. The guards are claiming smith violated their privacy rights by releasing Text Messages they sent to each other, messages that contained racial slurs. Now, those texts sparked a drive for oversight of the jails and also tonight, trouble at another Santa Clara County jail. Three deputies were hurt during a fight with drunk inmates at the elmwood correctional facility in milpitas yesterday. One deputy was kicked in the face and needed stitches. The other two had minor injuries. That kind of assault will not be tolerate. Well charge them criminally. How did the inmates get drunk .
