Reporter thanks to evidence left behind here at this house, and neighbor surveillance cameras, detectives were able to quickly identify the suspects 26yearold Mohammad Khan a disgruntled former employee of the man who lives in the house. Detectives say kahn intentionally set fire to the garage khan intentionally set fire to the garage last saturday morning. Thankfully the former boss heard the fire alarm go off and found his house on fire. He woke up his family and called 911 and was able to put out the fire with a garden hose. When detectives arrived, they asked the victim if they knew anyone who would want to harm them. One particular person came to mind. As a result of some workplace incident, um, recently terminated employee whom he had supervised, came to mind. We did some research on that. One thing led to another. The next day we served a search warrant on that persons house and arrested him. Reporter khan was arrested sunday at his home on webster street. He is booked at the santa clara main jail. The man who was stuck for hours in an oakland trench has quite a story to tell. He was up to his chest in mud and muck. His rescue took 14 hours. Kpix 5 reporter len ramirez on how the man managed to keep his cool during that very long rescue. Len. Reporter well, it was a very long rescue. And it looks like its going to be a pretty nice recovery for this worker after his very long ordeal being partially buried in the sand. It happened yesterday afternoon about 12 30 here in the city of oakland. The worker rojelio esparza was sitting up in bed today and even Walking Around here at Highland Hospital talking to reporters about his rescue after being buried in sand for 13 hours. He was working on a sewer line 15 feet down when the walls collapsed around him. Fire crews had a difficult time digging him out. When they removed the sand and muck more fell in its place. Finally a big vacuum like tool let rescue crews get enough sand out to free his feet. He was rescued at about 2 a. M. Cold and tired but otherwise okay. We are happy. Every time they tried to excavate and put in more shoring material plywood and bracing, more and more sand would come in on it. Reporter mr. Esparza never lost consciousness and maintained good vital signs throughout the rescue. He was buried only waist high. He got a cell phone from firefighters so he could text people about the situation even were told play games on that phone to pass the time. We did have a Pool Reporter talk to him a few minutes ago.
