Tens of thousands of cars pack i80. But a freeway shooting last night has turned the festive mood for some to downright scary. Bullets dont have named. A little kid thats involved, its dramatic. Im fearful of driving on that freeway. Reporter Berkeley Police say a family of three was driving home around 10 15 p. M. In the eastbound direction. Somewhere between ashby and university exits, a bullet blew out a window. I heard a loud boom. The window smashed. They thought they had got nene some type of collision. Reporter shattered glass cut the face of a woman in her 30s. The driver a woman in her 60s and an 8yearold child in the back seat were unharmed. This is a pretty scary situation. The family was very fortunate that the round didnt hit them. Reporter police say the family was not involved in a road rage incident. They dont know why or who fired the shots. Detectives want to see if theres any connection to two other i80 shootings that happened earlier this month. November 10 someone shot and killed a driver and injured his passenger near the pinole valley road exit. On november 2, someone fired multiple shots into this car near the San Pablo Dam road exit injuring the driver. Police believe those two shootings were related and targeted. We cant live in fear. We have to go on with our lives and go about our daily business. Police say the victims couldnt tell who fired the shot or where the bullet was coming from so detectives have any suspect information. It happened about 6 40 this morning on fremont boulevard. Witnesses who saw the 57year old man get hit tried to follow the woman driver. When officers got there, they found the man with critical injuries. He was rushed to the hospital and died. The driver came back to the scene when she realized something was wrong. When she got to work, looked at her car, realized there was some damage on the right side, realized she had hit something, she called her husband. Husband met her at work and they came immediately back to the scene. The driver is. Cooing. They are asking the driver is cooperating. They are asking witnesses to contact police. King tides are especially high and low tides that happen only a few times a year. Chopper 5 flew over highway 101 at the highway 1 interchange. This area has flooded for a second day in a row. And more king tides are expected through tomorrow. Back to the cold temperatures, some parts of the bay area will go well below freezing tonight. We sent our mobile weather lab to livermore. Right now gauges showing that the temperatures definitely dropping. Some of the outlying areas could see temperatures in the upper 20s by tomorrow night. Reporter he warns the crooks are disguising their phone numbers, something known as spoofing, to make it appear they are calling from the irs. Their goal, to scare people into giving them money. Once you get scared, you stop thinking and you dont approach it critically. Reporter something lowist can attest to. Last year lois got a similar call supposedly from the tax agency. If i didnt clear it up, they were going to prosecute me. Reporter she admit fear clouded her judgment although she ended up giving the scammers 4,500 in Prepaid Debit Cards. I panicked. I thought it was real. Reporter if you get a call, dont engage. And if you get a message, dont call back. Dont, dont, dont, dont, dont, dont reporter if you do, you could end up on the sucker list as a target for other crooks.
