It is 35 contained right now. But more than 7600 homes are still threatened. Investigators are zeroing in the cause of the butte fire. It burned more than 70,000 acres in calaveras and amador counties. But the fire is now 49 contained. Our da lin standing next to some of the 250 homes that are have been lost saying that the focus is on a pg e power line, da. Reporter thats right, allen. And this is one of many homes destroyed by the butte fire. The good news is the fire isnt expanding but there are still a lot of hot spots burning within the area. And, of course, the focus is now shifting to finding that cause and pg e may be to blame. Pg e says its cooperating with fire investigators. The Utility Company says a tree that made contact with the power line possibly started this devastating fire more than a week ago. A lot happier to hear it may be an accident than arson. Reporter the fire killed two people, destroyed more than 250 homes and left families homeless. We just want to go back home. Thats all we want. We are definitely going to go back and rebuild. Reporter evacuees like linda james are tired and worried. The 70yearold woman and her two dogs have slept at this campground fo a week. Im a little out of it with a bad back and bad knee. Mentally theres not much you can do, just hang in there. Reporter she is upset two people died in the fire. Cal fire says the two men refused to evacuate. Its a shame they didnt leave. Houses are not worth losing your life over. Reporter as for the cause of the fire, cal fire took whats left of the tree and power pole for the investigation. It wouldnt be the first time a pg e line is blamed for starting a fire. The company was fined after a power line sparked a wildfire about 20 years ago. Hundreds of families are still evacuated and cant see whats left. Theres no timetable as to when they will be allowed back in. Live in the town of mountain ranch, da lin, kpix 5. The valley and butte fires have been sending up huge clouds of smoke like this over the last few days and soon, we could be seeing it right here in the bay area. The winds for the past several days have been coming up out of the southwest pushing the smoke way from the bay area. But after the front that gave us some rainfall which we sorely needed yesterday, were talking about the winds coming from the north. And the north wind will push some of that smoke towards the bay area just your average midweek haze over the bay area right now. The beautiful view from the east bay hills. But it may become more than that as that wind increases in intensity over the next couple of days. Lets check the weather maps. Valley fire the winds have changed. Its more of a north to south direction. Dry weather returned. Much, much needed rain yesterday up to a half inch of rain up in lake county and Mendocino County and middletown. Winds from the northwest will push some of the smoke and haze in our direction. Locally around the fire 15 Miles Per Hour with some higher gusts. Air quality will actually not be that bad. Moderate air quality in the north bay and south bay tomorrow. The air quality will be good elsewhere. But well have that localized smoke impact especially in northern napa county the closest to the fire as the winds go from the south now they are coming from the north. Police takedown in stockton is going viral after 10 officers were caught on camera tackling a teenager. 16yearold Emilio Mayfield says that he was trying to catch the bus for school on tuesday when an officer stopped him for jaywalking.
