Seen or surveillance breaking into a san jose home. The 17yearold turned himself in to police today. He has been booked into Juvenile Hall for Home Invasion robbery. Last friday, he broke into a home in the evergreen neighborhood armed with a knife. The two suspects tried to kick down a bedroom door where three victims were hiding. Once they heard police were on the way, the men fled. Police are still searching for that second suspect. A father and son Crime Fighting team getting the credit for nabbing a fugitive. The man had just led police on a highspeed chase when he ditched the car and ran into an east bay neighborhood. Only on 5, our simon perez says the man picked the wrong place to hide. Reporter it was cool, you know . Its like oh, look its like a movie. Reporter around 4 a. M. Tuesday Morning Police were chasing a speeding suspect through this neighborhood. I had some sort of notion that have we checked everywhere . You know . And walked out in the garage and took a look over and theres the fella standing there. He, you know, turned out the light and the next thing i knew i was, you know, rolling around with this guy. Reporter chris has the bruises to show for his scuffle. Had me around the neck. Reporter when son canyon chapman heard a noise from the garage he investigated. I flip on the light and i say, dad are you okay . You know, like kind of like is that you . And he is like, get this guy off me reporter canyon picked up a piece of wood and pounced. Something laying around the garage that would help give more force becatting up. Its hard to watch, you know, like, your dad, you know, your sole protector, you know, sitting there, you know, getting hurt on, you know, and you know hes in trouble. Reporter the dad said he is not mad at the man he feels sorry for them. He said there are many people who turn to crime and he thinks they can do so much better for themselves. In oakland, im simon perez, kpix 5. The suspect has been booked in county jail and charged with a number of counts. A team of burglars smashed their way into a Palo Alto Department store. Kpix 5s veronica de la cruz has more on how those crooks got in and got out in about a minute. Reporter the entire heist was captured on bloomingdales security cameras and it seemed to be a well planned operation. The thieves knew exactly what they were after. Just after 4 00 this morning, they ram a jeep straight through the glass doors of bloomingdales at the Stanford Shopping Center and then rush into the jewelry section. The suspects all in black hoodies get to work and here it is from anothering an am. The three suspects head straight for the jewelry. You can see one using a hammer to break the display cases. Others on the team followed behind scooping up the goods. They commit their crime quickly. Police say the burglars were inside the store for just over a minute. And then theyre off. The masked burglars rush out the broken front glass door where their getaway car is waiting for them. Take a look at this. All the damage left behind. Bloomingdales personnel are still taking inventory of the stolen items. They will have to factor in the damage to the building, as well. The glass front door was completely blown out. By this afternoon, a black curtain was placed over the broken front door. The store was closed while crews worked on repairs. As is on the case in these types of crimes, the jeep used to ram the store was stolen. But it could provide some clues in the case. Ken, back to you. Thank you. The driver in a suspected dui crash that killed four people in gilroy has been released on vehicular manslaughter charges. The 23yearold was driving this blackford mustang on leavesley road last night. The chp says that he was speeding when he hit this curve and lost control. A neighbor heard the crash, called 911. Police arrived on scene followed the skidmarks and found the car 50 feet down in a ditch. When it went off the road it hit the canal bank over there made the vehicle go airborne and overturned in the air. The driver was the only one who survived the crash. A 24yearold man and three 18 yearold girls all died. Police found alcohol and drugs inside the car. Devastated parents of the 12yearold boy who was hit and killed by a muni light rail were back at the crash site today. Andrew wus mother and father were grieving at the intersection of lakeview and san jose avenues in San Francisco. Their son died yesterday after getting hit by a muni train. Its one of the most dangerous intersections in the city. It was earmarked for safety upgrades but not until 2016. Developing news now. We are learning more about a derailment disaster in philadelphia. Investigators say it was going twice the speed limit when the train flew off the tracks. At least 7 people are dead and more than 200 are injured from last nights incredible accident. Federal investigators say the amtrak train was going more than 100 miles an hour on a 50 mileperhour curve. The ntsb is analyzing the black boxes for more clues. Cbs Craig Boswell joins us live from philadelphia where teams are still searching for passengers. Reporter liz, good evening. The train was going 106 miles an hour according to the ntsb going into that curve where the speed limit was 50 Miles Per Hour. The ntsb also says the engineer applied the emergency brake but it was too late. Reporter the ntsb says preliminary data shows the amtrak train traveling from washington, dc to new york city was going 106 miles an hour when it entered a curve in philadelphia. Maximum authorized speed through that curve was 50 Miles Per Hour. It is incredible that so many people walked away from that scene last night. Reporter crews are using heavy equipment to remove the piles of mangled metal from amtrak train 1 88. Were looking at the track, the train signals, the operation of the train, the mechanical condition of the train, human performance. Keep calling, okay . Reporter passengers say in a split second things went from calm to chaotic. Felt like it was taking off. It was like it went into the air. Reporter Philadelphia Police say the engineer is not cooperating and that he left the Police Station with his attorney. Nearly 200 passengers had to be treated for injuries. I saw head injuries, you know, bleeding. Broken arms, broken legs. Anything you can imagine is what happened. Reporter amtrak Officials Say it could be days before service on the busy northeast corridor between new york and philadelphia is operational again. The engine and the train cars are being removed and placed in a secure location. Liz, back to you. Amazing, that train was going over twice the speed limit around that curve. Investigators need to put together at this point a timeline to determine why the train was going 106 Miles Per Hour in an area where it was only 50 Miles Per Hour. And then they are going to be going through other information on the event recorder whether or not other brakes were applied, whether or not the horn sounded. But sullivan says starbucks customers arent the only ones who should be concerned. Any kind of third party of money system that exists is vulnerable to this. Auto reload is not ready for prime time. Reporter he says third parties that link to customer accounts dont have the same protections in place as their bank. Security experts say treat any linked account like you would your bank account.
