The owner said they would take care of it. And convinced my Code Enforcement staff that they were doing so. Part of the problem, we have a large backlog of Code Enforcement cases. This past summer 2 more complaints and the building was sold. New ownership by the same problem. Problem with mold, with rots, with roaches and this has been an ongoing problem. They gave residents one week to get out. Theres about a one percent vacancy rate so tenants are stuck and unable to find other housing. Tenants have found back by withholding rent and hiring an attorney. That may help in the big picture but right now 9 families are just trying to get by. We are moving out of the apartments and were trying to find a new home. Owners of this building have one week to show the city exactly how they plan to fix these problems. But getting this building up to code could take months. County super viseors voted to reject the raise they planned to give themselves. Thats after voters had tens of thousands of signatures to try to stop it and the Sheriffs Union is filing a federal lawsuit against the board.
