They will provide mutual aid to local and cal fire crews. While the king fire is the largest in the state, the boles fire has been the most destructive. It ripped through the town of weed, which is along i5 west of mount shasta. The fire is smaller in size at 375 acres, but it has done an incredible amount of damage. At least 110 homes have been destroyed, four of those belonging to firefighters. Another 90 homes are damaged. The fire has wiped out churches, a Community Center and library. Ken bastida tells us, its a huge blow to that town. Ken. Reporter yeah, liz. You know, weed, its a small community. Only about 3,000 people live there. Its an old lumber town that once was home to the largest sawmill in the world. When you look at these pictures, its heartbreaking because theres not much left of some of these neighborhoods. Down to foundations in some places. Still smoldering. People everything they had lost in this fire. Tonight, those who call weed home are reeling. These are live pictures. Many lost everything, foundations, all thats left of the many houses that went up in flames. You talk about civil war where they went down south and burned everything out. Its just devastating. Its, uhm reporter mayor bob hall is trying to stay upbeat in the face of indescribeable destruction. It really is for this little town a big thing. Small town 3,000 people. Reporter a small town that just lost 200 homes. Its devastating. Onethird of the homes are probably gone. Reporter this part of california is already used to struggling. Just not like this. You know, all of Siskiyou County has been economically depressed or a long time. The one major employer other than schools and stuff like that is the mill right back here. Reporter that mill damaged and closed for at least three months. It could turn to despair real easy. Reporter enough despair to leave families asking some very tough questions. Should i rebuild . Is it worth rebuilding here to live here . You know . I dont know. Reporter city leaders hope that wont be the case. They are already asks fire victims to stay and ride out what will be a long rebuilding process. But a disaster this big in a town that small is going to be a test. And everyone knows it. So the story is, are people going to pull together or explode . Thats the story from my perspective. Too early to tell. All we know is that this is day 2 and its different than day 1 was and im sure as we go on, its going to be more and more issues cropping up. Reporter a long uncertain road ahead that weed will have to manage. One day at a time. The suns going to come up tomorrow. Its just going to be, um, maybe cloudy for a while. But the suns coming up. Reporter yeah. So heartbreaking. Such a cute little town. The latest chapter in the story of weed. Firefighters are getting some help from the weather tonight. Those winds have died down a bit. So rain this evening in mendocino and snow counties along the coastline, first showers will slide south overnight in mendocino and sonoma counties. More coming up in 10 minutes. Thank you.
