Supervisors in Santa Clara County are considering a plan that would protect people vulnerable to deportation. Kpix 5s Jessica Flores is live in san jose with the details. Jessica. Reporter well, Santa Clara County has been on the forefront of pushing back against the Trump Administrations plans and policies. Today the board of supervisors will consider helping undocumented immigrants. They say many people are staying in the shadows afraid to come forward and get services because they are scared they are going to get deported. Now, of course, this is all coming at a time that the Trump Administration has promised more roundups, more deportations. Today supervisors will hear how the county can help families create emergency plans if a parent is deported and they will talk about the possibility of creating an ordinance that would ban the county from participating in any registry based on religion or national origin. The Trump Administration has promised to deport criminals, but immigrant activists says i. C. E. Agents have targeted and detained and deported dreamers. Those are the young people brought to the country illegally as children. They were allowed to stay under president obamas executive action. The point i think the attorney general is making is they are here unlawfully and are subject to deportation. Thats what the law says. Now, what we actually do is another story. As i say, we are not targeting my organization has not targeted the socalled dreamers, doca. We have many, many more important criminals to go after and get rid of. Reporter two weeks ago Santa Clara County went to federal court along with San Francisco to fight the president s executive order on sanctuary cities. The county says the order would allow the president to slash federal funding from cities and counties that dont help enforce immigration law. Now, the board of supervisors will consider plans today to also help hate crime victims. Among their ideas to help those victims, they say they want the county to have more shelter beds for people, Transgender Community members. In san jose, Jessica Flores, kpix 5. President trump is on the verge of announcing what he suggests is the biggest tax cut in the history of the u. S. Mark, good morning. What do we know about this tax plan . Reporter michelle, this came as a surprise. Apparently, even some inside the white house, friday he said this interview with the, in the interview with the Associated Press. Apparently the Corporate Tax rate he wants to take from 35 to 15 . That would make the United States among the heavily taxed, most heavily taxed corporate nations to one of the least. Mark, could a plan like that pass in congress . Almost certainly not. Thats why people are having a hard time wrapping their heads around this. The reason is very simple. Its not because of democratic opposition. Democrats definitely dont want to go for this. They dont need democratic votes. Its because of the amount it would add to the deficit. Conservatively this would cost 2 to 300 billion a year. You simply cant pay for that by getting rid of deductions and cutting government programs. That adds to the deficit. There are enough republicans in congress that are very nervous about adding to the deficit. I mean, to put this in perspective, the president talked about his idea to cut the epa by 30 , to cut the state department by 30 , other departments by 10 . All of that adds up to about 60 billion. Were talking about cuts that would be Something Like four times larger than that in order to pay for the tax cut unless you add to the deficit. Most republicans in congress will refuse to do that. How likely is a Government Shutdown . You know, there has been all this talk this week about, you know, how deadlines clear the mind, and the deadline is midnight on friday. As somebody who teaches college students, no question, deadlines are scary, but congress can do Something College students cant. Vote themselves an extension. The deadline as originally october 1st. They gave themselves a deadline extension to december. Now they have extended it to this friday. If they dont reach an agreement, they will extend it again. Again, republicans control congress. This is not a democratic republican issue. This is an internal republican problem. Its something which if they dont some, they will give themselves more time. Mark, back to the president. Trump says he has done more in his first 100 days than any president in history. How would you assess that statement . Said with the usual humbleness that we have come to expect from President Trump. These things are clearly subjective. You cannot say who has had the best 100 days. You can look at his promises. I think we have a screen shot of something donald trump put out before the election. This was what he called his contract with the American Voter for an action plan. 100day action plan. He wants to bring back accountability. So he says that the 100day construct is silly and ridiculous. The first is propose a constitutional amendment to impose limits on members of congress. He hasnt down this. There are 38 of years. By some counts he has done ten. Some counts 15. He has made some progress. He is putting a new Supreme Court justice. But to say its the most successful first 100 days in presidency is a stretch. I would recommend if you want to understand the president presidency to take a look at the transcript of the interview he did with the Associated Press on friday. He says things in there such as he didnt really realize that these problems are massive. Turns out they are very complicated, indeed. He also said that one of the things he learned since he has become president which surprised him is that he has the ability to not watch television thats not praising him. That if television is critical, he didnt think he would be able to keep his eyes off it. Turns out he is able to not watch cnn or msnbc. He confines himself to fox news. It gets difficult to sound objective when you are trying to assess a president of the United States. You can agree or disagree with some of his plans like the wall or the 15 Corporate Tax break. Read that interview and judge whether or not you think this president is delusional or not. All right. Coming up, why a law is claimed unconstitutional. ,,,,,,,, its not a weekend hobby. Ance .
