You can get a better look at the whale from above, chopper 5 yesterday. This is a male blue whale. They are an endangered species. The largest animal on earth. Someone spotted the body floating in the surf yesterday afternoon. The Marine Mammal center has been working with the academy of science to make a plan for its necropsy, which is an animal version of an autopsy. In the meantime people have been visiting the beach to see the whales for themselves. I just came to see the blue whale. I heard about it on, you know, the tv. Yeah, wanted to see how big they are. Theres not many of them, so its a little sad. Reporter there are about 2800 blue whales off of californias coast. The largest concentration of blue whales in the world. But the Marine Mammal center has only responded to 7 blue whales in its 41year history. So this is a rare occurrence. Now, after this necropsy, they are going to try to figure out if they are going to bury it or leave it. But it is going to become a very stinky situation here on Thornton Beach at that point. The Santa Clara CountyDistrict Attorney started collecting numbers from cases back in 2013 to 2015. He wanted to answer the question, is our Justice System fair to everyone . And this is what his office found after they collected that data. What was most striking to Community Leaders is that 50 of latinos charged with resisting arrest even though they make up only 26 of the population here in Santa Clara County. And 14 of blacks were charged with resisting arrest, despite making up only 3 of the population. Now, a psychologist in new york showed racial bias and prejudice by testing people who had to make a quick decision to shoot a white or black Person Holding a gun or harmless object and heres what he found. Now, you are in the role of a Police Officer and whats been found is that if the person who appears is black and they are holding a cell phone or soda can, people are more likely to accidentally shoot them than if they were white. And it flows back into the classroom because everybody is good at something while theyre out here in the garden. We learn about, like, new foods that we have never heard of and new bugs and stuff. A team of scientists recently surveyed the area and identified nearly 3 dozen homes at risk along with nearly a dozen bridges and seven roads. The Organization Called open Space Authority says it will take about a Million Dollars of emergency Erosion Control to stop the debris from flowing down the hillside in heavy storms. The shooting happened tuesday near faxon avenue and montana street. Authorities say several officers started following a wanted car from san mateo. When they pulled it over, there was a confrontation and two officers shot at the suspect. One of the officers was also shot and is in fair condition. A lot of people are showing up to a beach in daly city to see a massive blue whale. It washed ashore yesterday and now crews are trying to figure out what to do with it. Its the same region where a massive earthquake killed nearly 300 people back in august. There are no reports of casualties and few serious injuries. But there is extensive damage to buildings and hundreds of people are out of their homes. In San Francisco, city officials want everybody to know if a building isnt ready for a quake. So they are posting big signs to call out sites that break the rules. These notices are actually a second round of warnings from the department of building inspection. Its director says a quake can come at any time and is particularly important that owners retrofit soft story buildings that have garage space on the bottom floor and housing up above. They have a deficiency so we want to strengthen the ground floor area. Only about 40 of buildings are currently in compliance. One reason the retrofit process can entail a sixfigure price tag.
