Kpix 5 political analyst melissa caen joins us live from philadelphia where Hillary Clinton ended the Democratic Convention last night by formally accepting the partys nomination. Good morning. Reporter good morning. Here on friday after two weeks of conventions, you can see it is pretty empty back there. [ extremely scratchy voice ] last night was anything but quiet. Hillary clinton came out to a standing ovation. She wore a white suit and talked about positivity. She portrayed herself as a facilitator in chief. She talked about how america is stronger together. She talked about american values. But she definitely took some time in her speech to attack her opponent. But heres the sad truth. There is no our donald trump. This is it. And in the end, it comes down to what donald trump doesnt get. America is great because america is good. [ applause and cheers ] of course, she wasnt just appealing to independents and members of her party. She is also appealing to the activists, many of whom were in the room. These are the people who have to go out knock on doors make phone calls. She needed to give them the energy and ammunition they need to go out and do the hard work of the campaign. If what happened in here last night was any indication, they are ready to go. One of the most compelling speeches yesterday coming from the father of a slain Muslim American war hero and he was blasting donald trump. Reporter so i dont know if you guys at home know this but there are a lot of speeches that take place here. They are usually about four to seven minutes long and while they are happening people are milling around, they are talking to each other. Early in the day, people arent paying that much attention to the speeches to be honest. But all of a sudden people looked up and saw mr. And mrs. Khan on stage. Mrs. Khan dressed in muslim attire. And mr. Khan began speaking about their son a Muslim American soldier who died in combat and he took aim squarely at donald trump and what he regards as trumps antimuslim policies. Donald trump, youre asking americans to trust you with their future. Let me ask you, have you even read the United States constitution . What are your overall thoughts after the wrapup yesterday . Reporter well, at times it seemed like each convention was talking to a different country. At the same time, if you sort of take a step back you realize that both conventions were really talking to what voters care about and thats personal security and that includes local crime and International Issues and economic security. So we actually have a lot more in common in terms of what our americans interests are than it might seem by look at these conventions and how these candidates will address the issues determines who becomes the president. I have also learned that i take an unreasonable amount of joy in balloon drops. They are kind of my new favorite thing. So i learned that, as well. A lot of people enjoy that. Turning now to the fire in Monterey County the soberanes fire has burned grassy hills and homes. This is our first glimpse at the ashy lots where house once stood. Tonight in richmond, people are taking to the streets and walking for a cause. Their mission to end gun violence. The ceasefire walk happened a few times a year in the city.
