In san jose a couple works together to run a business worth millions and neighbors have no clue the product the marijuana until cops raid it. Kpix 5s maria medina is live in the san jose neighborhood where the bust unfolded reporter this was one of the biggest bust this is san jose and this is the couple police say was behind it. You can see them smiling in their mugshots. Now, police say they operated seven grow houses in san jose. Investigators seized hundreds of plants with a street value of more than 5 million. Investigators say they had a really sophisticated cultivation and surveillance system. In fact, they were stealing water and electricity allegedly from their neighbors. Its like a banging on a door very forceful banging, very surprising. I mean, i know that, um, pot is around. Im not naive about that. But i didnt think it was next door. Reporter and police say, you know, these neighbors had no idea and it was one of the landlords who actually tipped off investigators back in april. New Police Tactics were put to the test yesterday in San Francisco. Officers responded to reports of a man with a gun on jones street near market. Several times the man told officers that he wanted to die. Officers practiced deescalation techniques and called in a negotiator. They also fired nonlethal beanbags subduing the man. After a few hours he peacefully surrendered. Not all Police Confrontations have such a happy ending. Nationwide, demonstrations are being organized in the wake of the shooting death of a black man in baton rouge, louisiana. 37yearold alton sterling was shot and killed in the parking lot of a Convenience Store by two white cops. The u. S. Department of civil rights is leading the investigation. Amid the anger and grief a man who saw it and owns the property where it happened is speaking out about what he saw. Some of the video contained in this piece is graphic and disturbing to some viewers reporter thousands gathered for a vigil and protest in baton rouge in the parking lot of the triple s food market where alton sterling was shot and killed. The owner of the store had given sterling permission to sell c ds on the premises. He described what he saw. I came out the store. They were throwing him on top of the car, tackling him to another vehicle. Then throwing him on the ground. Thats when both cops got on top of him. Reporter he says he believes sterling didnt know what the police wanted. He was really confused. He didnt know what was going on or why they were there, what he asked them before when they start trying to push him against the car, what did i do wrong . Whats going on . Reporter the store owner says he never saw a gun in sterlings hand. The gun was never anywhere in his hands nor his hand was inside hi pocket. The gun came out after the cops pulled it out. Reporter he got video on his cell phone and it was captured by store Surveillance Video. He police confiscated the Surveillance Video and he hasnt seen it. The fbi and the department of justice will be meeting with Louisiana State police today to discuss the role state police should play in the investigation. In minnesota, a man is dead this morning after he was shot by police during a traffic stop. His girlfriend Diamond Reynolds and her daughter were in the car at the time. Reynolds streamed the aftermath on facebook and we warn you, this is disturbing. He had a firearm and he was reaching for his wallet and the officer just shot him in his arm. The man was taken to a hospital where he died. Reynolds was taken into custody and is being questioned by police. Happening today, pg e crews are helping clear dead trees in Monterey County in an effort to prevent wildfires. They are also conducting daily aerial fire patrols over several fire prone areas in northern california. Nasa recently put out research on the mass death of trees in california. There are some 29 million dead or dying trees across the state right now which can serve as tinder for wildfires. A battle in the east bay over a development that could change the face of a historic hotel. Between the oakland and berkeley hills, the Claremont Hotel is a landmark since it was built. And now a new construction proposal would create a 43unit condo complex on the hotel grounds. Neighbors are worried it will change the face and the pace of the neighborhood. Traffic is pretty light across the eastshore freeway on that portion with no delays when you get to the bay bridge. Metering lights remain off at the toll plaza. The upper deck just cleared roadwork. Lower deck closure eastbound between Center Anchorage and Yerba Buena Island still two lanes shut down. Everything clear on the upper deck of the bay bridge. Lets check the nimitz freeway. So far, so good. Everything in the green with our drive times. Youre up to speed northbound 880, 238 to the maze, 16 minutes to make that portion of the drive. Brake lights out of tracy westbound 205 580 connector to the Altamont Pass. 14 minutes, no accidents just extra busy for that morning commute. And a lot better extra volume towards the dublin interchange. But traffic is moving once you get over towards 680. South 680 starting to see a few brake lights through the sunol grade. Northbound 101 at old oakland road they are clearing an accident on the right shoulder. Its not causing any major delays though. Traffic is clear. Lightly traveled now northbound 101 out of san jose. We are not seeing any delays so youre looking good from capitol expressway towards 237. Thats an easy drive with no delays along the peninsula. Lets jump to the san mateo bridge where things have been nice for most of the morning. 15 minutes between 880 and 101. And the Golden Gate Bridge off to a great start out of marin with no delays as you head into San Francisco. Although, roberta, i did center to use my windshield wipers today. I had to use mine also once i took the turn on 580 heading west past oakland. Thats how far inland that marine layer does stream this morning. In fact, one of our weather watcher says that, yeah, there in los altos and right there in san jose, we have the thin overcast and temperatures are almost identical to 24 hours ago about one degree difference. Right now our wind speeds are clocking up to 13 in oakland, 11 San Francisco, calm in san jose, 14 san ramon, just saw that fluctuating wind in oakland. 23 in the fairfield area. Thats going to be the situation for the next several days. The clouds will hang out at the coast, well see the partial clearing around the bay. Saturating our inland areas to the east a good 50 miles streaming past santa rosa to the north and working its way all the way into san jose. They were visit a canyon when they saw a baby deer without the mother. They took it to the local Humane Society. But separated from the forest and family, it got sick and was put down. People should never meddle with fawns and in this case he says that the Humane Society couldnt bring the baby back home in time. They were 30 miles from durango and they brought the fawn to durango and by that time, they didnt we didnt have a name of the people. They didnt have a location of where the animal was found. So we couldnt take it back. The people who picked up the fawn wont face charges. In colorado, there are no laws against meddling with animals. Its just considered common sense not to do it. Some Mountain Lion kittens in the Santa Susana Mountains are having fun playing with no tourists in sight. National park Service Workers just spotted these newborns. 5 kittens from two litters. When things got tense, they subdued him by firing nonlethal beanbags. After four hours with the negotiator, the man turned over his gun and peacefully surrendered. A Minnesota Police department is Getting National attention because one of its officers shot and killed a black man during a routine traffic stop. The mans girlfriend filmed it and its graphic. You shot four bullets into him, sir. He was just getting his license and registration. [ crying ] Diamond Reynolds says her boyfriend Philando Castile was carrying a licensed handgun when the couple with diamonds daughter sitting in the back got pulled over. Diamond says philando was honest about having the gun and simply tried to get his license and registration when the cop fired at him several times. A sergeant from the department insists this kind of thing does not happen in st. Paul. We havent had an officer involved shooting in 30 years or more. Id have to go back in the history books. Castille died at the hospital. Diamond and her daughter werent hurt when the cops started shooting. Minnesotas bureau of criminal apprehension will investigate. In baton rouge, louisiana a Community Stood for hours into the night to honor a black father of five who was also shot by police. Video shows alton sterling being pinned to the ground by cops and then shot and killed. He sold cds at triple s store. Now theres a Justice Department investigation as to why a confrontation between sterling and Police Killed the man. The vigil was peaceful last night and locals stress that despite their frustration, this would not be a repeat of ferguson. Im angry and im mad because they took something from me that ill never, ever get back some of people say we couldnt come out without burning up our own buildings, without tipping over cars but this is not ferguson, this is baton rouge, louisiana yeah [ applause and cheers ] demonstrators say that they will not stop protesting until they feel that justice is done. Gianna, thank you. A violent car crash causes a San Francisco mansion to go up in flames. This was the scene yesterday. The driver slammed the suv into this home in seacliff. Smoke poured out of the windows. The vehicle ended up on its side halfway inside the home. Firefighters doused the wreck of the suv. The force of the impact killed the driver and also caused the inside of the home to catch fire. [ banging ] firefighters kicked in the front door to get to the flames. They put it out quickly as neighbors looked on in disbelief. A dog was rescued and police say that other than the driver fatality, no other injuries were reported. No word on the cause. It appears that the suv may have struck a pickup truck before the crash. The House Oversight committee has asked fbi director james comey to come to the hilled today despite the fact that the attorney general accepted the fbis recommendation and closed the case on Hillary Clinton emails. House republicans are not satisfied. We want to know why theyre not going to prosecute. Everything that director comey said would lead you to believe that she broke the law. Residents of squirrel valley only have rubble where their homes once stood, some have only a chimney. Yesterday the county held a meeting to spearhead debris removal efforts. But it looks like the worst of it is over. Cal fire estimates that 93 of that fire is contained. Speaking of fires, this was the scene yesterday in emeryville. The fire broke out at a new apartment construction site an san pablo avenue near macarthur boulevard. The sixalarm blaze spread to homes and a nearby business. Firefighters deployed drones with special image Heat Sensor Technology to locate problem areas. We were able to sense hot spots and able to verify that embers hadnt spread to other locations. And also, make sure that the firefighters were safe down on the scene. These images were live streamed to the fire command post for hours as firefighters worked to douse the flames. Kids in Southern California are embarking on a one month challenge that gets them off the couch and active on the playground. This is cool. Its all part of a Campaign Launched by the boys and girls club to get kids moving. The goal is to get one million minutes of exercise in a one month period. Kids are encouraged to move their bodies at least an hour a day. Be mindful of Healthy Eating habits and through activity create positive social relationships. I thought we we have to do pushups but its fun. It feels good to be active, run around and nice knowing that im doing something with all my friends. More than 4,000 Boys Girls Clubs across the country are participating in the challenge. Put everything down and get out there and exercise. Remember when we used to do that as kids . Right. Exercise. It comes after the Consumer ProductSafety Commission received at least 99 reports of battery packs that power hoverboards overheating, smoke, catching fire and exploding. The hoverboards being recalled were made between june of 2015 and may of this year. Starting today, verizon customers will have more control over their monthly data plans.
