The childs mother is officer vegas daughter. The suspect is expected to be in court this afternoon. San jose sheriff laurie smith is proposing major changes at the county jails. The chamber of Commerce Survey suggests homelessness is the key complaint. 51 say its a major issue. Thats up quite a bit from last year. Fewer residents are looking favorably on the citys police department. This is a clear drop from last year in how many people are satisfied with officers effectiveness. As for the citys direction, most people said it was headed in the wrong way. Huge jump from just last year only 34 of respondents said so. Happening today, a City Advisory Committee will hear a flan would make sweeping changes to san joses 40year old rent control law. The plan would tie annual rent increases of 44,000 rent controlled units to inflation. Basically, landlords would not be able to hike rents past the Consumer Price index each year. In San Francisco, the board of supervisors voted to support dog owners who are fighting tough restrictions proposed for the Golden Gate NationalRecreation Area. The proposed rules would severely limit the number of areas where dogs are allowed. Parts of the Recreation Area are in San Francisco but its overseen by the National Park service. Today San Francisco supervisors will discuss a plan to reimburse businesses affected by super bowl activities. He needs remember, democrats award delegates proportionally so he can not only beat Hillary Clinton in several races but beat her with huge margins to shore up delegates. They found a man collapsed on a porch shot several times. Soon after, a woman who had also been shot was dropped off at alta bates medical center. And police say this shooting was target. Not ran doppler. They cannot say yet if its connected to a shooting on delaware that happened yesterday in broad daylight. A man walked up a man outside a liquor store near san pablo avenue shot a man and took off running. That man still on the loose this morning. Drivers are on alert again along i80 because the gun violence that plagued the freeway is back. One driver had a close call yesterday on i80 near appian way in pinole. The chp says the woman was driving during the height of rush hour when a green toyota pulled up beside her at fitzgerald and fired multiple rounds in the area. Chp says the driver was not hurt but this recent shooting is one of several along i80 and drivers on the freeway arent sure what to make of it all. Thats scary. And kiet, whats their plan . Reporter san jose is near the top when it comes to expensive rent in the bay area. But big changes could be coming here to city hall as a Major Overhaul of the rules is now under consideration. Chief among them the city wants to try and cap annual rent increases by tying them to inflation which in years past has been no more than 2. 8 a year. Right now, the law allows landlords in san jose to raise rents a maximum of 8 a year. The city also wants to empower tenants with information. Apartment owners would be required to report and update the rent of each unit to the city and tell new tenants what previous renters had paid. They are also considering an antiretaliation ordinance to allow tenants to report Code Violations without fear of eviction. To enforce the rules, the city needs to hire another 15 to 20 employees. Opponents say the new laws would be cumbersome and be hard to apply because nobody would move out. The one bedroom rent in san jose doubled in the past years, now about 2,400 a month. People in the state have mostly responded well to the governors order of a 25 water use reduction. Will the winters rain end the drought in the state . Two former servers are suing him, several managers and his restaurant group. Its claimed that coqueta owner michael a chef is making sexual comments. He released a statement that reads new details about a Sexual Harassment that cost a cal basketball coach his job. Ucberkeley fired assistant coach Yann Hufnagel after seven months of investigation found he reportedly trapped a Sports Reporter in a garage and talked about sex. The report states hufnagel sent that woman Text Messages filled with sexual innuendos and after she turned him down he is accused of denying her access to information she needed to do her job. The reporter was later fired. Now the chronicle is reporting that the head coach Cuonzo Martin may have been known about the allegations long before it was reported. Emails obtained by the chronicle reportedly show that martin knew that a female reporter had complained about hufnagel two months before cal athletics reported it to the university. The company has submitted plans to the city for a 339,000 squarefoot store at hacienda drive at interstate 580. Ikea says the store would open in 2018 and employ about 350 people. The proposal would need approval from the city. Some opponents are concerned about traffic and have started an online petition in hopes of stopping the project. About a decade ago ikea aband owned plans to open at the same location. They have Bay Area Stores in East Palo Alto and emeryville. A vacant Downtown Hotel will be converted to housing for san joses homeless. The City Council Approved a plan yesterday. The 49room plaza hotel on south almaden avenue has been vacant since 2008 when it was bought by the citys redevelopment agency. Some nearby businesses have expressed concern about the plan. Police got a report of gunshots fired here at about 1 a. M. And when they got here they found a man collapsed on a nearby porch. He had been shot several times and soon after, a woman who had also been shot was dropped off at alta bates medical center. Police say this shooting was targeted. It was not random. They cannot say yet though if it is connected to a shooting on nearby delaware that happened yesterday. That happened in broad daylight. A man walked up to another man outside of a liquor store near san pablo avenue and shot him then took off running. He is still on the loose this morning. And police have not been able to release any
