The volkswagen had a green signal and was beginning to make a left turn when struck by the suspects vehicle who ran the red light. That cost the volkswagen to be caused the volkswagen to be pushed forward. We believe that killed the driver of the volkswagen. Reporter it looks like center road just getting back open. And the rain continues to pour down on the bay area this morning in scattered shower fashion. The numbers are near 60 degrees around the bay area. The winds are gusting up to 50 miles an hour. Wind advisories as a result are posted for north and east bay mountains. Sustained winds northwesterlies from 20 to 30. You will notice it if you are hitting the road sitting at home. The wind is blowing around the house and we have more scattered showers. The winds will be with us through this evening and so will a futures, too. But well begin to slowly clear out tonight. As you can see, thats how wet it is out here because its been raining all nonstop it feels like for the past couple of days just causing the roads to be super slick. People need to take their time out there. Yesterday, caused a lot of trouble in a lot of places. Well start in oakland at 45th street overpass where a puddle turned into a pond making it challenging for cars to get through. Staying in oakland wind and rain brought down a large force a large tree forcing authorities to shut down one lane. Half a mile away, the bad weather brought down a power line briefly blocking people up this road from getting to their home. And in the mission district, all eyes are on 17th and folsom an area thats notorious for flooding. But this is nothing new. Its been this way for almost 30 years. Water flows from under doors here and the sewer pipes just arent big enough to handle it. No sewer system can handle storms of this magnitude. Reporter its going to take 2 00 million to over 200 million to overhaul the pipes. Right now they are using the big orange barriers to try to guide people in the flooded areas and keep them from getting wet. Police are looking for the shooter who killed two people in west oakland. It happened last night just before 9 00 p. M. On 32nd street. This follows a violent sunday when two people were killed and five wounded in at least four sketch rent shootings. Rohnert park police have arrested a man for forcing his way into an apartment this week and hes got quite the explanation. Investigators say ortega is the man seen creeping around an apartment complex on beverly drive. After recognizing himself on the news, he turned himself in. His girlfriend apparently lives at that same complex. He said he was drunk that night. So he mistakenly thought he was trying to get back into her apartment. A san jose jury awards 11 million to a man left paralyzed after being shot by police last year. He said he was holding a knife but was evenly threatening to hurt only threatening to hurt himself. Campaign 2016. The field of republican president ial candidates is a little bit smaller today. South carolina senator Lindsey Graham officially suspended his campaign on monday. Police say its all because of one man. Kiet do joins us live from the scene in san jose with the very latest. Reporter good morning. A tragic scene in East San Jose as is often the case. The alleged drunk driver survived the incident. Is at the hospital with unknown injuries while one victim is dead. Investigators say this all started as a hitandrun crash in the parking lot of a deannys on the corner of capitol expressway and tours road. Thats when the alleged drunk driver then drove a short distance to where we are at center and singleton road. And crash his suv. A yellow volkswagen had the green light and was making a left turn. Westbound highway 4 out of antioch. Were starting to see traffic bog down a little bit as you work your way into pittsburg. Well, rain in the bay area means snow in the sierra. And lots of it. Residents rushing to get out of the snow caused several accidents on major roadways there. That created a traffic nightmare for hours. Chain installers on northbound 50 were ready to help people headed to tahoe. This video was shot before twin bridges. The roads are icy and slick. Chains are required for all drivers on 50 and i80 today in the sierra. A bay area man remains behind bars on charges of making threats against muslims, 55yearold William Cellis post on social media caught the attention of investigators. They say the selfemployed plummer built homemade bombs and ranted on facebook about muslims and immigrants. Thats terrorism, its malicious, and its un american. Homemade bomb found inside his home was detonated. Police believe he was acting alone. Investigators are seeking hate crime charges against him. We now know the name of a man found dead at a while frat party at berkeley. 22yearold Jeffrey Engler was a former cal student. He attended laney college. His body was found saturday morning at the frat house. Police say he died after falling from a significant height. His death was originally called suspicious but police say theres no indication of foul play. Alcohol was likely a factor. Some San FranciscoPolice Officers are off the hook for sending racist and homophobic text. The judge ruled the department missed their time line to fire the officers and ordered them back on the job yesterday. Ten officers are accused of exchanging racist texts while on duty. But the judge said the statute of limitations had passed and they could not be fired. Were disappointed but we still stand by the fact that anybody capable of these kind of texts should not be a police officer. The chief has not said whether the officers will be back on the street. And now the officers can hold the city responsible for all of their legal fees which could be as much as 500,000 and that means it will come out of tax payers pockets. A south Bay Community is remembering the gilroy family killed in a plane crash. Jason price, his wife olg and their three children ages 9, 10 and 14 died when their private plane crashed over an Almond Orchard in bakersfield. They were on their way to a Holiday Party in nevada. Neighbors and end froms from and friends are stunned. When i found out, i was in shock. I couldnt believe that happen. Really nice people. The ntsb is investigating what caused this crash and it could be months before they figure out what went wrong. A woman is being held without bond in las vegas for a deadly rampage on the strip. Police say 24yearold la Keisha Holloway deliberately used her oldsmobile to plow into people on a sidewalk killing a woman from arizona. Even after the windshield was smashed, she kept accelerating. The sheriff doesnt think this was an act off of terror but it canting ruled out. We dont know enough of her background to make that determination.
