Reporter standing here right now was like actually being in seaworlds splash zone. These waves are so powerful, so intense they hit the breakers and then they come up and over the railings. Eventually it broke the window and then a bunch of water came through and then more water piled through again. Thats a huge wave. Reporter moon raker restaurants banker hall is stripped of its carpet and now they are trying to get out the excess water. The windows shattered. Glass went everywhere and the room filled up with water pretty quickly. Reporter Gary Mcnamara is one of the owners. When he came to work saturday morning, he and staff found the first floor was flooded. I dont know if it was wind or a rock came through the window. So we went to our surveillance camera and pulled the footage back up and obviously it was something more serious than that. Reporter the Surveillance Video captured this rogue wave that came up over the breakers and straight into and through one of the first floor windows of the restaurant. It has to clear like 30 or 40 feet of concrete. Reporter gary said the damage is estimated to cost 10 to 15 hours. Hour by hour these waves continue to become more powerful. The window at the moon raker restaurant is now boarded up. The good news is those powerful wave lit at 5 15 a. M. Hit at 5 15 a. M. Saturday, so no one was in the restaurant at the time. Cate cauguiran, kpix5. Tonight a stretch of highway in novato is shut down. Major flooding has turned the roadway into a lake. One car has been stuck there since yesterday. Showers are getting less numerous, but we are not done with the rain just yet. It was also hail across parts of the bay area today, pea size hail pounding this parking lot in novato, thankfully no damage done to any vehicles. Mount diablo not just rain and hail, it was snow. Chopper 5 over the summit about 3,800 feet earlier today. You can see a decent amount of snow in those locations. Whats going on right now . There is the radar, a line of showers perhaps with more small hail moving into the marin coastline along inverness and south city of San Francisco getting some rain between 12 00 and 12 30. Just east of Boulder Creek its snowing not only mount diablo, but in and around Mount Hamilton high elevation snow above 3,000 feet. Santa rosa is encroaching on 19 inches of rain in the past three weeks, napa more than a foot, more than 9 inches of rain in San Francisco, more than 8 in concord, 7 in oakland and nearly 1 2 a foot of rainfall in san jose, but the tap is about to turn off. Thats telling because earlier pg e crews apparently ruled out any sort of gas leak, but they are back on the scene tonight trying to figure out what happened to two 30yearolds and their two cats killed inside that fourplex. Its still a mystery. Reporter there were no signs of struggle and no evidence of suspicious activity. Tonight no one knows for sure what happened at this Apartment Building on deacon street. One person stopped by and found a person dead. Authorities arrived and found another person dead in the house along with two cats. The building was evacuated out of an abundance of caution. Since that time pg e, the Fire Department and Hazardous Department has checked out the apartment. Reporter but they ruled out the possibility of a gas leak or any other hazardous substance. Our homicide unit is here checking the premises for any more evidence they can find. Reporter so far its unclear what could have killed the couple and their cats and police say it could be some time before they have any real answers. Too soon to tell what this could be. Reporter the coroner ails office removed Coroners Office removed the bodies a short time ago and are not yet identifying the couple and say it could take a Police Report and toxicology report before they know what happened here. In oakland in the fruitvale neighborhood some tenants in an Apartment Building say they are living in inhumane conditions. Tonight the landlords are on notice to fix it up. At 1620 vail avenue tenants say there is no heat, no working smoke detectors and its infested with bedbugs. Now the City Attorneys Office has an injunction against the landlords. We have a housing crisis in this area and all the landlords are trying to do is make a lot of money of people. This is a marginalized community, Spanish Speaking low income. The judge said the owners must address the problems within 40 days or face sanctions and contempt of court charges. The president s first monday on the job, pretty busy one. The chp will close niles canyon to recover a car that belongs to a missing 18yearold woman from tracy. She crossed the yellow line and plunged into the fast moving raging waters. Today that car was spotted about 100 yards from the accident. The family of the missing teenager played a huge role in her search today. Authorities shut down niles canyon road so more than 30 loved ones could walk along the creek in hopes of finding a trace of her. You see the determination on their faces to find their daughter. Its very moving and that determination and that love for her is what helped find that car today, absolutely, literally throwing a rock out there and hitting what appeared to be a car and that allowed us to focus our attention. Reporter authorities then launched a drone to get a closer look and it showed two tires sticking out of the rain swollen creek. The woman is presumed to be in the car, but crews cant reach it until the water level is lower. The water level coming down quite a bit may enable us to put more people in the water to get this done. If the water is still moving pretty high and theres a lot of risk involved, it may entail like kelly talked about getting winches and getting the car secured. Reporter officials have not formally identified the victim, but family and friends are praying for jada jenkins on social media. She was on her way from tracy to a family members home in menlo park when she lost control of the car. She was just starting college and had plans to study psychology and become a social worker. The Sheriffs Office said the family asked to stay private today. The chp says recovering the car is expected to take several hours tomorrow. They dont have an estimated time for when the canyon will reopen. In fremont betty yu, kpix5. A new theory tonight about the cause of the ghost ship fire from lawyers for the buildings chief tenant. The Group Representing derek almena say they have a reliable scientific report that concludes the fire that killed 36 people last month started in an adjacent building. Almenas attorney claim the fire marshal could not conclude where the fire originated and their report should clear their client of charges. The city says no conclusions have been reached and its premature to speculate about the origin of the fire until all investigations are complete. Crews finished filling it back up with concrete earlier tonight. And a historic landmark in santa cruz is taking a beating from the recent storms. Reporter its been a tourist attraction at Sea Cliff State Beach for generations and an icon of the Santa Cruz County coast, but now storms have turned the old cement ship into a shipwreck. Very sad day. Reporter crowds came out to say goodbyes. Last year the ship broke in two, but 34foot waves are finishing it off. The stern has capsized and the bow is sinking. The world war i ship turned party boat and fishing platform is practically unrecognizable. It kind of reminds me of my own age, i guess. Reporter gary gray came here as a kid with his grandfather. Now he brought his own wife and kids. Its sad to see that its falling apart, but its still there. Reporter sea cliff also took a pounding from storm debris. This is perhaps the largest collection of logs you might ever see on a beach. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of them, big ones, small ones, trees that were toppled maybe years ago in the santa cruz mountains, then brought here down by the rivers and creeks and streams during the storms and then tossed on the beach by the huge waves. I think everybody should get together and come out here and just start cutting all this stuff up, you know, haul it out of here. Reporter as if thats not enough, a huge sinkhole opened up near the park entrance when an underground culvert broke apart. Our three biggest reservoirs in the state shasta lake up 14 feet this month, Lake Oroville is up 73 feet this month and trinity lake is making a comeback as well. It is up 15 feet and were not done with the snow in the sierra. Winter weather advisory through tomorrow morning, snow level there 3,000 feet as well.
