Reporter it was amazing. People were so excited to see him. I was on the phone when he took the stage and immediately went deaf with all the cheering, so people are very fired up. He gave about a 30 second speech. It was really interesting. Ill tell you this. His campaign has said theyve been intimately involved with the planning of this convention and so far we havent seen much of Donald Trumps footprint here like no fireworks, no live eagles, anything like, that but the one thing we have seen is very short speeches. I got to believe thats the work of a man who knows tv and peoples attention spans. It seems like tonight his speech was in line with that. Tonight bay area republicans at the convention said they want to unite the party. Important election i was in my life. Im what really bother me is that the whole party is not backing him. They all signed up for him and i think originally that form was for his benefit to make sure that he would support any of them and im embarrassed for some of our party that arent backing him, that arent here at the convention. I thought the election of Ronald Reagan was the most important election i was going to experience in my life and im not sure i was right. That may have been the second most election. I think this election is probably the most important that our country faces. About 100 chp officers are in cleveland this week helping with security. New video shows the deadly shootout between Baton Rouge Police and the gunman. They show the shooter gavin long slowly approaching police with an ar style rifle. Experts say he appeared to be in their words combat ready. Long was carrying a handgun, also, and had another rifle in his rental car. [ gunfire ] the gunfight lasted nearly eight minutes. A witness captured this video as she was caught in the crossfire between police and the gunman. A s. W. A. T. Team eventually killed the shooter. Died within 30 feet of each other. That shot that our s. W. A. T. Team made was a hell of a shot, but it had to be made. We had to neutralize the threat right there. We couldnt let it go any further. All three Law Enforcement officers died within 30 feet of each other. One deputy left the comfort of his dumpster and died rushing to the aid of another officer. His father has spent more than three decades in Law Enforcement. You have to come out every day, get in the car and go answer this 911 call. Whats going through your mine and your fellow officers mind and your fellow officers at this moment . We discuss almost daily the possibility of ambush and go over tactics and strategies to try to combat it. When youre being ambushed or theres a sniper scenario or Something Like that and you have no clue where this threats coming from, thats my biggest fear. Reporter so theres dallas and baton rouge. What went through your mind the moment you heard again officers were killed . My first inclination is to empathize with the officers in that situation. Officers losing their lives, its hard that. Situation that happened in dallas could easily have happened in downtown oakland. So i think the first reaction is to kind of empathize and put yourself in that situation and say that could have been me. Unfortunately in this profession i dont get the luxury of saying you know, im too scared to go to work today or i dont want on go to this call want on go to this call because a, thats not what i signed up for and b, there is still people out there that need our help.
