And tonight, a peaceful resolution to what doesnt often end well. The Police Departments reforms were applied to the street. Put your gun down, maam. Reporter cell phone video captures the beginning of the incident on jones street near market. Police say the man without a shirt has a gun and refuses Police Orders to put it down. He said he wanted to day, he made statements he did not to die, he made statements he did not want to go to prison. They shoot him with a bean ban gun and then laid down on his stomach. A 221, his hands in his pockets and refusing to comply. Reporter the bean bag shots are nonlethal but they have little effect. The suspect lies down on the ground but hes Still Holding the gun and wont take his hands out of his pockets. The family describes him as a man struggling with mental illness. A negotiator with the Crisis Intervention Team talks to the man for nearly four hours. And negotiations are attempted to be conducted reporter until he finally gives up his weapon and surrenders. The police chief says this evenings resolution is a real life example of the deescalation training the department has been going under for months. Weve been pushing, the sanctity of human life, we wouldve stayed here all night if we had to. Most situations were resolved relatively quickly, time is our friend. The longer we delay these situations, the better they end. So it ended peacefully. But this situation easily couldve gone another direction. Take a look at the photos released by the police department. Heres the gun they say he was carrying, a 22 caliber revolver and there is the ammunition. This man now undergoing medical evaluation. And people on social media at the scene, even the mayor are praising the police for their measured responses today. All right, joe, thank you. Well, some of the sweeps tonight, deep sigh of relief that fpd didnt shoot and kill that black man at standoff that just happened. And quote, proud to be a san franciscan right now. Thank you, sfpd. Dramatic images tonight of a fiery car crash, an suv plowed in to a bay area mansion, killing the driver. Veronica de la cruz shows us the aftermath. The crash in San Francisco burn in to flames around 1 30. Thick smoke poured out of the home on 32nd after on sea cliff. The vehicle ending up on its side, partially inside this home. Firefighters hosed down the smoky wreckage of the suv, the force of the impact so powerful the inside of the home also caught fire. Firefighters kicked their way through the front door, they knocked down the fire pretty quickly, neighbors looked on in disbelief. Right now we know the driver of the charred car is the only victim. Police did manage to pull a dog to safety. No reports of any other injuries. And no word yet as well on what caused this. So it appears the suv may have struck a pickup truck before that crash. Because there was a bystander who used the cell phone to record this skint, we know what happened.
