As hundreds light candles and pay tribute to the victims of the San Bernardino massacre, tonight, a clear picture emerges of the young husband and wife who abandoned their baby for a mission to kill. [ sound of gunfire ] it is hard to imagine, but the husband and wife murder team were planning something even worse. A Police Reveal that they took this bomb to the social services building. It was rigged to a Remote Control toy car you see there. Police also found this bag of pipe bombs in the suspects home. Betty yu has some new details on the suspects and the investigation. She is in San Bernardino tonight. Betty . Reporter ken, as new details emerge about this suburban couple, more questions continue to grow. People are stopping by here to leave messages and flowers for the victims. Meanwhile, the San Bernardino county Sheriffs Department released these photos of the crime scene. The dark colored suv with the tires and windows blown out. Bullet holes everywhere. Inside that car, tactical assault gear. Then, theres the massive stash of ammo and the accompanying weapons. Two assault rifles and two handguns. As for the deputys patrol car, you can see it took quite a hit with bullet holes in the hood and the windshield. All in all, police found 6700 rounds of ammunition along with a dozen pipe bombs and hundreds of tools for bomb making. The fbi combed through the couples property today seizing computers, thumb drives, and other Electronic Devices that have been sent to washington dc for analysis. So, behind closed doors, this couple had an incredible arsenal of weapons and even more ammo for a deadlier outcome. Officials tell cbs news syed farook was not on any u. S. Watch list. But cbs news sources say he and his wife were looking at isis propaganda online. Sources also say they have found evidence. Syed farook had contact with a person in the u. S. And people overseas with suspected ties to terrorism. Investigators are focusing on the extent of those contacts and whether he may have been influenced or possibly radicalized. Law enforcement sources tell cbs news what they do know so far. Syed farook, a u. S. Citizen born in chicago to pakistani immigrants, graduated from cal state San Bernardino in 2010. He went to work for the local Health Department and then turned to Online Dating websites in search of a wife. In one profile post, he said he was religious, but moderate and enjoyed hanging out in the backyard doing target practice with his younger sisters and friends. He met tashfeen malik, a pakistani descent. They got engaged in 2013 when he made a trip to saudi arabia. He returned there in july of 2014 to bring her to the u. S. Christian sat in a cubicle next to him for five years. When he came back, he started growing beards. That was the change. Do you believe that he was radicalized . Yes. Was he ever violent . No. Was he ever rude . No. Never. Was he ever talkative . He barely talked. Reporter earlier this year, syed farook and his wife had a baby girl. Yesterday, they dropped their six month old daughter off with his mom saying they had a doctors appointment. Instead, the fbi says the husband and wife terror team dressed in black Tactical Gear opened fire in the Conference Room of the Inland Regional Center shortly after he left the county luncheon. Nobody gets up from a party and goes home and puts together that type of a scheme. There was some planning that went into this. Reporter we learned the couple fired off up to 75 rounds. Police fired 380 at their rented suv in the final shoot out. Oh my god reporter now, two brothers who attend the same mosque as syed farook say he was a very devout muslim. He showed up to pray everyday before he stopped going three weeks ago. They also tell us he has been going to that mosque for two years and recently memorized the quran. Not too far from where i am standing, there was a vigil at a stadium here in San Bernardino. Some of syed farooks coworkers at the department of Public Health broke down. It is scary. We were in a building directly behind on the other side. It was scary knowing it was so close to home. And knowing that we have people that were inside of there. I happen to have also been part of a workplace shooting in the mid 90s in richmond, california so i think i was prepared to lead us through this on one hand. On the other hand, it affected me greatly. Reporter now, the county employee that you just heard from said that he sheltered in place yesterday with his coworkers and i have to say, ken, i was at that vigil and what really struck me was the resilience of this town. They know they are a mid sized town, about 200,000 people. They have been through a lot of economic hardship. They had to declare bankruptcy in 2012 and they had to deal with the housing bust, but tonight, a real strong show of solidarity. Ken . So many unanswered questions. One of them, this was a young couple in their late 20s. It is hard for a lot of people to imagine that the mother of an infant by all indications, this infant was six months old, could be a mass murder. What else do we know about his wife . Reporter a lot of people tonight asking that question. We do know that she has a pakistani passport and she was here on a k1 fiance visa. But she was not known to terrorist officials or on any kind of watch list and we also know she has no prior criminal record. She passed all of the background checks that were part of her application process. By all indications, both these people were living in anonymity. Could be in any neighborhood in america tonight. Betty yu, thank you. We are now hearing from one man who ran toward the danger and saved lives. Allen martin joins us now with his story. Allen . Reporter one of the first officers on scene yesterday was actually on his lunch break. With 25 years on the force, he knew what had to be done, he had trained for it, but he says there is really no way to prepare for Something Like this. With 24 years on the force, lieutenant mike madden knew it was the real deal. And i could hear it in our dispatchers voice. That this was actually happening. This was a real event. Reporter he was less than a mile away and first to get there. Columbine in 1999 thought them what to do. Engage the active shooter. We wanted to get in there and stop any further innocent people from being injured and possibly killed. Reporter but what they found, mike calls surreal. An active shooter, we call it sensory overload. They try to throw everything at you to prepare you for dealing with that. What you are seeing, what you are hearing. What you are smelling. And it is all of that and more. Reporter they got as many as 50 people out as quickly as they could. It was unspeakable. The carnage that we were seeing, the number of people who were injured and unfortunately, already dead. And, the pure panic on the face of those individuals that were still in need. Reporter he could smell fresh gun powder, knew the urgency, but was trained to show calm in this situation. But still, reality cant be ignored. There are so many families this Holiday Season that will have to deal with the tragedy that was left behind by this senseless act of violence. That is a little tough to deal with. Reporter lieutenant mike madden was asked about the criticism of police an police shootings. He said 99. 9 of officers do their job to protect the public and that is what he saw yesterday. Amazing. It really is. By all indications, they went above and beyond. We are learning more about the victims from those who lived through it. And the family of those who did not survive. John blackstone considers our coverage. Reporter Jennifer Stevens is just 22. A former College Volleyball player who graduated this summer and took a job with the San Bernardino county Health Department. The whole thing is devastating. Reporter lisa stevens is jennifers mother who got the phone call every parent dreads. She had been shot. Then they took the phone from her. Four hours later she texted me that he was okay. Reporter she was shot in the side. When her mother came to visit. She says i saw people die. It will be hard for her to deal with a long time. It was surreal, it was horrible. It was crazy. Reporter also among the wounded, julie paez. She was shot twice after arriving at the Holiday Party to be honored as employee of the year. Nicholas valecinos is one of the 14 that did not survive. He leaves behind a widow, jennifer, an elementary schoolteacher. He was so kind to everybody. He was very chivalrous. How is life going to change for you now . Just, my whole life has been basically turned upside down. He had an enormous heart. Reporter nicholas occasionally posted views on social media that were critical of islam. But his wife tells us she has no idea if syed farook ever saw those postings. John blackstone, cbs news. California. Governor brown delayed his trip to the summit in paris to go to San Bernardino tonight. Gun control bills are going nowhere in washington. An Francisco Police protests in san franciscos bay view neighborhood tonight after video emerges of san Francisco Police officer shooting and killing a stabbing suspect. Christin ayers spoke with a mans mother tonight and tells us what one city supervisor is demanding. Christin . Reporter yeah veronica, hundreds of protesters were hitting these streets in the bay view after that officer shot a man named mario woods in this neighborhood. Those protesters shut downstreams tonight as they chanted and held signs and packed a town hall meeting. They later took to the streets again. They are furious about the shooting of 26yearold mario woods yesterday. It was all captured on cell phone video. He is seen clutching a kitchen knife as officers surround him. They first hit him with rubber bullets and then real bullets. His mother has watched the video repeatedly. He was cowering you know. He was cowering. My god. I should have been there. I should have been there. Reporter right now, there are two investigations underway. The Police Department and the district attorneys. San francisco Supervisor Malia Cohen will be paying close attention to the outcome of the investigations. She told me if for whatever reason the community is not satisfied with those investigations, she will lobby for a third independent investigation. We also spoke to the chief who defended the actions of the officers. Christin ayers, kpix5. Well, a mother takes her kids to target. Not to shop, police say, but to shoplift. That is not the worst of it. Da lin says when Police Closed in on her, she took off and left one kid behind. Reporter many shoppers believe this woman would win the worst mother of the year award. This person never should have been a mother in the first place. Reporter police say she brought her 11yearold daughter and her infant to the serramonte target to shoplift two days before thanksgiving. When Security Guards stopped the trio at the door, police say the woman told the 11year old daughter to fight and run. The daughter bit a Security Guard on the shoulder. The mother ran off with the infant and never came back for the little girl. Child protective service now has custody of her. It is heartbreaking because we have to deal with the aftermath and how you deal with a child who is being raised that way to have them differentiate between what is right and wrong. I fear sorry for the little 11yearold and im really scared for the baby. Reporter im told the guard is okay. He has some bite marks. Daly city police are looking for the mother Rosalina Medina from oakland. Officers went to oakland today to search for the 34yearold woman with no success. They believe she may be hiding at a relatives house. In daly city, im da lin, kpix5. Fishermen, scientists, and politicians met in santa rosa to talk about what they call an economic disaster. The delayed and possibly canceled crab season. Mark sayre is at a port where they should be hauling the crabs in by now. Mark . Reporter well, the situation is so bad, some lawmakers say governor jerry brown may need to ask for a disaster declaration to help the fishermen who have lost their livelihoods. Here at phils fish market, the live crab have been brought in from the waters of canada. And employee brian gurerro says the staff is getting plenty of questions. Where do we actually get them. The crab season was put on hold last month after a poisonous sea algae caused high levels of neurotoxins in the crab. Even the crab industry itself wants to wait until officials are sure the crab is safe to eat. Im not going to bring them in until they are perfectly safe to eat. When that happens, i sure hope the public backs us up here and goes and eats crab three times a week. Reporter but the crabbers have longer term concerns. We are the people who have fundamentally be damaged. It is important for us to understand if there is an anomaly or if this is the future. Reporting live, im mark sayre, kpix5. Well, a novato couple is recovering tonight from a battle with a squirrel. This mean little squirrel is suspected of attacking six other people in just the past two weeks. 87yearold Richard Williams says this squirrel snuck into his garage, charged at him the day after thanksgiving. Every time he threw it off, the squirrel leaped back on him. His 83yearold wife norma stepped in. I was panicked. It was a horrible thing. Just scratching and clawing and tearing up my clothes. I grabbed the broom and picked it up and i guess i hit the squirrel with it. Mean squirrel. Yeah. Seriously. Bad squirrel. The critter attacked norma, so richard says he grabbed it by the tail, slammed it. Look at richard. He is in the hospital he was treated at a hospital for cuts from his head to his legs. Norma suffered shoulder injuries and the Marin Humane Society is trying to find that squirrel. If same one believed to have attacked a teacher and a student at Pleasant Valley elementary school. He is still out there. That is scary stuff. Wow. How do you follow a squirrel that is attacking people in marin county . You dont. You just go right to weather. We have know in the sierra.
