At least that is what they think happened to him out in the remote part of the Tahoe National forest. His coowner says this is far from the craziest thing he has done. He has been off road forever. He rode a motorcycle from alaska to the tip of south america, through the jungles of columbia. He is very experienced. Reporter now nicholas co owner told us this afternoon saying that he hoped they would find him and they could laugh about it. Well, it seems they will get their wish and the family will be coming home safe and sound. Andria borba, kpix5. The family of a woman and young girl killed when a speeding corvette ran into them outside a livermore apartment complex called our Juliette Goodrich to say they wanted to talk. They have a message they want everyone to hear. Reporter family members found the courage to return to the crash site where Esperanza Moralez Rodriguez and her daughter were killed. Esperanzas two brothers and two sisters who were both pregnant are there. They heard the crash and the screams and saw esperanza discover his wife and baby killed. Esperanza, esperanza, where is julie . You know. And turned her head down and she was dead already. She didnt know. She was in shock. Reporter police say the driver, 35yearold brian jones had been drinking and was speeding when he lost control of his corvette swerving off the road onto a pathway where the mother and daughter were standing. He was 80 miles an hour. Blood alcohol, that is not an accident. I dont feel sorry for him. Reporter two other children playing in the familys backyard were also injured from debris that flew from the corvette. He comes in flying. He forced his way into that home and attacked a 13yearold girl who lives there. Ran off, but not before the camera got a good look at his face. The attack caught on her familys Home Security video. And i tried to slam the door on him. But i couldnt. So he gets inside. Then he tries to grab me. So i push him back. I try to get him off of me. Then i slam my hand into his face. Reporter he breaks free to look for something to use as a weapon and he turns and leaves. He is accused of trying to follow a 28yearold woman last month in a market. I was telling my wife you have to tell me where you are going and i always have to time her how long she is taking. It can happen to anybody. It is pretty scary. We havent identified him. Reporter many people we talked to have already seen the suspects photos online and schools are warning parents in an email. A fire broke out in san jose tonight at a pipe and welding training center. This is on commercial street near the 101 880 interchange. Firefighters were able to put the fire out about 7 30, nobody was injured. Police are looking for the driverover this white bmw after he rammed into a Police Cruiser during a chase. They swarmed the car in the diamond district about 6 00 p. M. Officers eventually broke the tinted windows but the guy was not inside. They even pried over the trunk to try to look for him there. Still, no sign of him. Tonight, we learned that a bunch of criminal cases have been thrown out because of racist and homophobic Text Messages. Joe vasquez says this could be the beginning. Joe . Reporter this scandal goes well beyond just racist Text Messages sent by Police Officers. We are now learning of an event here on sixth street a few years ago. Public defender jeff adache played us video of an African American man who when he was arrested here, the cop used extremely offensive racist language. These [bleep] cannot even spell. They just sell drugs. These monkeys have nothing to live for. There were people wrongfully convicted or wrongfully arrested, we have a legal and moral obligation to address it. Reporter it is that sort of prejudice that has District AttorneyGeorge Gascon looking into racism in the San Francisco police department. In an era of rising tensions between cops and communities of color across the country, three retired judges with expertise in civil rights will help review thousands of cases here. 3,000 cases. We think it is even more. How many . We think it is going to be closer to 10,000 cases over the course of ten years. We dont even have the names of all the officers yet. Reporter he welcomes the new panel of judges but wants to make sure they actually interview his clients. He says a lot of charges have already been dropped. To date, we have counted 119 cases that have not been filed by the da or have been dismissed. Because of the 14 Police Officers involved in this scandal. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. Dash cam video shows a police car pulling up to a man with his hands up. Now officers then get out of the car, order him to the ground, they come over, detain him, he gets on his hands and knees an then this. A Police Officer kicks him in the head, knocking him to the ground. The incident happened back in 2013. The city released the video in the interest of transparency. The first grand jury did not indict so the attorney general took the case before a second grand jury which decided the officer should indeed be charged. There were 89 passengers on board that flight from florida to new york. It was a little nerve racking. They told all of us to put our heads down in our laps because the air would be fresher. Crew members told passengers there was a problem with one of the engines. The plane landed safely in South Carolina and the airline gave them pizza and drinks at the airport. East bay mud wants everyone to know if your water tastes a little funky, dont worry about it. The Water District says they have had to make some adjustments because of the drought. One of the adjustments is getting water now from higher up in the reservoir, which can sometimes be covered with algae. It is filtered out, but it might leave behind an aftertaste that east bay mud is harmless. Meanwhile, in san jose, neighbors tell us they have had enough with all this trash and debris, nasty smell coming from a homeless camp in the pine hurst neighborhood. A lot of noise, pets, dogs parking, arguments. Just the smell. The camp is on state owned property right behind their fence. Caltrans told the neighbors they will kick out the homeless some time next week. Well some people in some brand new homes in dublin say they have problems of their own. Not the homeless, but their builder. They showed julie watts around saying we paid three quarters of a Million Dollars for this . We started to see drips of water coming down. Reporter it is the last thing the treadwells expected. A broken water pipe leaking through the ceiling of their brand new home. Not just one. We had a total of three holes cut into our new house. Reporter they also had problems with windows and kitchen cabinets. The standard pattern was oh, that is normal, there is nothing wrong with it. Reporter neighbors arent happy either. The last two months have been a nightmare. Reporter their brand new hardware floor, a feature they paid 10 grand extra for is all scratched up and their brand new countertop is stained. They are not the only ones unhappy with dr horton. Complaints to the Better Business bureau have spiked to a total 364 over the last three years. Compare that to just one complaint to their largest competitor, the pulsy group. Homeowners here say they first noticed issues during the walk through of their brand new home. They said they expected dr horton to take care of the problems right away, but instead, they got the run around. Attorney julie says when you buy a newly constructed home, you have no choice but to accept the builders warranty. You can make a complaint to the contractor state license board, but typically, they will tell you that you are bound by the warranty. Reporter a warranty that for most cosmetic defects only lasts one year. It is common for some builders to stall. It is not in their financial best interest to run out and make repairs when ever every homeowner calls with a complaint. Reporter dr horton turned down our request for an interview but in a statement said they closed 50 more homes than the second largest builder so it is logical they would have more bbb complaints than any other builder. While they fixed the leaks right away, they left the holes for months and gave them 9,000 to hire a contractor for the holes and other repairs. We are hearing this is just a few miles from where the family was found. Authorities actually air lifted the family, a father and his two Young Children ages two and five from a rural road where they had been stuck. Nicholas vlahos and his kids had been camping with other relatives when they decided to take a rugged wilderness road on their way back to the bay area. You are looking at pictures of them after the rescue. The Sheriffs Office says they slid off a slick muddy road and they were stranded there struggling to get the car back on the road some time. A search helicopter spotted them around 8 00 this evening and air lifted the man and his kids out. That is how they found them still struggleing to get their suv back on the road. Very slick roads. Very muddy roads, from some wet weather the sierra has experienced earlier today. But again, the family was in good condition, everybody was safe, no injuries whatsoever. So really, just as you said, the best possible outcome for a family that has been overdue back in the bay area and families were really fearing the worst for them tonight.
