Andria borba just got to the scene tonight. What could you tell us . Reporter well, liz, brian, we are told this all started somewhere near the corner of hyde and broadway with an armed robbery. That led to a car chase through the streets of San Francisco. At least one other vehicle was hit and it ended down here where a pedestrian was hit near the corner of california and kurney. The suspect ditched the car and ran away on foot. We believe they were headed to the bay bridge. San Francisco Police are not saying a lot at this time, but there are multiple crime scenes through the city as the photographer and i were coming here. There was a crime scene a block west of the ritz carlton. Many parts of the street are blocked off. A lot of crime scene tape. The san Francisco Police department not telling me what one of the vehicles inside the tape may have been the suspect vehicle at this point. They are trying to sort a lot of things out but they do believe their suspect is on the run right now. Traffic is a bit a disaster through this part of San Francisco. You can look behind me. There are a lot of people trying to figure out what is going on. We have seen fire engines, ambulances, we are told the pedestrian hit was standing in the crosswalk when that happened. We are still looking to track down more details at this point. As soon as we have them, we will pass them along to you. All right, andria. The pedestrian hit is in Critical Condition tonight. We will stay on top of this breaking story. A young mother shot and killed in front of her kids, her body dumped, and the suspect on the run. Betty yu spoke to the womans family tonight. Reporter brian, this man on the run was the womans boyfriend. An the family says that the two had a rocky relationship. They described him as quiet, strange, and troubled. You know, i begged her to leave him. One time, i came over and she had a black eye. Another time, she had a big scar across her face and she told me he had pistol whipped her. Reporter police said Andrew Butler ended up killing the 33 yearold mother of four, kendra gonzalez. If you were sad and crying, she picked you up in five minutes. Reporter her sister was set on leaving her boyfriend of four years for good. She was surprised to hear they took a trip from sacramento to san jose tuesday. They were involved in some sort of argument. The suspect pulled out a firearm and shot the victim in the fire seat. Reporter then he pulled her body out of the car and jumped it on bathdam avenue. All in front of the 18 month old son and teen daughter. Then he drove off. Somebody cold and callous. Somebody we need to take off the streets. Reporter andrew has been on the run since tuesday. Kendras father is still trying to make sense of the tragedy. You know, i dont know how to be angry because it doesnt seem real that this has happened. I havent seen my child yet in a coffin or anything. I wish you would turn yourself in. Reporter police say Andrew Butler dumped his car in salinas where he has ties and may be hiding out in sacramento tonight. Again, armed and dangerous and on the run. A ups truck full of packages and mail slammed into the median on westbound 580. It happened just as the morning commute was starting. The truck burst into flames and scorched the pavement so badly, caltrans had to do some emergency repaving. Traffic was down to one lane and it caused epic gridlock on the richmond bridge. You could call it a traffic mess on van ness. It is closed for 72 hours from gary to post. It happened yesterday at midnight. They are building the California Pacific Medical Center hospital here. The campus will open in 2019. Only buses are allowed through. There are detours for drivers. Van ness will be back open early morning. This section of van ness will be closed again april 24. Ten San Bernadino Police Officers are accused of beating a suspect. Reporter Francis Pusok was filmed by the news team in los angeles. Deputies start kick and pumping him though he was lying face down with his hands behind his back. They struck him at least 50 times for more than two minutes. Pusoks booking photo shows some of the injuries to his face. There was not a need for a hit or a kick. How do they justify kicking anyone when their job is to cuff them . Reporter pusok has a lengthy rap sheet including driving on the sidewalk, animal cruelty, attempted robbery, and resisting an officer. Deputies attempted to serve a search warrant on a home he happened to be inside. He was not a suspect, but investigators believe he fled to avoid a potential parole violation. Pusok was treated at a hospital an now he is in jail. The feds will investigate allegations that San Francisco sheriffs deputies staged gladiator fights with inmates in the jail. And within the past year, two inmates on work duty escaped. Sheriff ross held a News Conference today to address all of this. He says his department will implement more restrictive guidelines on inmate workers but some people are not buying it. He is displaying his lack of leadership now. You calling in the fbi. You having everybody else investigating. Between now and november, everybody he is going to do for the most part in my opinion and the members opinion will be politically based. He is up for reelection in november. Political insiders say he will have a tough time beating his challenger. Tonight, Oakland Police mix it up in one of the citys toughest neighborhoods. Reporter police say events like this have a potential of helping people who live in west oakland trust them more. They say it is already working. Last month about a mile from here chemile pierce was shielding her children from a gun battle when she was shot and killed. Her neighbors broke a code of silence and helped the police find the shooters. We really were successful in that case because of the cooperation of the community. Reporter well, the latest out here is that approximately 9 58 p. M. According to the san Francisco Police department, officers witnessed some kind of hit and run involving a vehicle and a pedestrian near the corner of post and powell streets. Now take a look behind me. We are down here at california. My photographer rachel and i passed another crime scene a block west of the ritz carlton. There was a vehicle pursuit that ended and the suspect and their vehicle, they lost contact with that person getting onto the bay bridge. The pedestrian was taken to the San Francisco general hospital. According to the san Francisco Police department and apparently, is in Critical Condition with life threatening injuries. As you can see, it is an absolute sea of crime scene tape down here right now. That is what is going on. We are still waiting for a member of the san Francisco Police department to come out here and brief us as to exactly what happened. We did get an email about five minutes after we started our 11 00 p. M. Newscast. With that updated information of a possible hit and run involving a vehicle, a pedestrian. We were initially told the pedestrian may have been hit here at the corner of curney and california. What we do know, liz and brian, is that that pedestrian is in Critical Condition now. Thank you andria. More cement has been found caked along a creek in oakland. The spill is in Glen Echo Creek in the upper rock ridge area. Da lin takes us there. We are trying to not distract ourselves with finding the guilty until after we make sure we protect the environment. Reporter this manmade disaster is taking a toll on the wildlife. Game wardens say nothing in the creek can survive the cement. Much of it had hardened smothering plants, insects, an other animals. This bird that was rescued yesterday ended up dying. It is just very sad. Its a sad situation. It is a part of our environment here. It has been a part of us. Reporter an east bay mud worker accidentally opened a valve like this one and allowed 12 struck loads of cement to run into the creek. They thought it only affected a small areas but neighbors alerted workers about this new section of the creek covered in cement. The substance also made its way down to a golf course about half a mile downstream turning the water yellow. Looking back, we could have done a better job of surveying it, but you know, these sites are fluid, they are hard, they change. Reporter workers pen the daybreaking the cement and vacuuming the pieces out of the creek. Biologists say it will take months if not years for the creek to return to normal. Hopefully, they will just clean up the place and lets get back to normal again. Thats all we want. Reporter this piece of cement was taken out of the creek. It gives you an idea of what they are dealing with. Cleanup workers will be working throughout the weekend. In oakland, im da lin, kpix5. The amount of cement that spilled could have laid a sidewalk a half mile long. Unbelievable. Temperatures are going to warm up a little bit more tomorrow as we look out toward pleasantton, dublin. In santa rosa, 50 degrees right now. Fair skies, and mostly clear in some places. Winds pretty much calm. Right now, rain such as it is, is confined to the pacific northwest. For us, mostly clear skies for the moment as long as the High Pressure hangs in and it will through the weekend. The pressure is on and the temperatures are going to come up a little more tomorrow. Came up about four degrees today. A few more degrees tomorrow and we will cool it down by the time we head to monday and tuesday because a low pressure trough is on the way. That will knock the High Pressure offshore. And lower the temperatures a little bit. Nothing dramatic either way. A little warmer saturday. A little cooler monday. That low pressure trough is going to send a few high clouds into the northern half of the region and a few low clouds develop off the shoreline by the end of the loop. Remember monday night and tuesday, as it begins to cool down, there is a chance of showers up there at the bay. Beach forecast, not a bad beach weekend. A little bit on the cool side. 64 degrees.
