Tonight new video from a firefighters helmet camera shows us exactly what they were up against as they raced to put out the flames. Weve seen this kind of caldecott nightmare before. It could have been a lot worse, but our mark kelly says this time the firefighters were ready. Reporter it looked straight out of one of dauntes nine circles of hell, busy morning commute and multiple vehicles collide inside the caldecott tunnel. One turns into a fireball. An explosion and i walked out. It was smoky in there. It was terrible. Reporter retired firefighter william tweety said this blaze is complicated. You dont know where the accident is inside the item. Youll have to approach it from both ends. Reporter but he said firefighters are trained more than ever to handle the pressure. In December Caltrans shut down one of the four bores to practice an emergency response. You can have it even to the point of something is actually on fire. Reporter the first goal is getting people out of the tunnel. Here firefighters shined flashlights inside the cars checking everyone escaped. Then attention turns toward putting out the blaze. As the fire grew bigger, the smoke grew thicker. Reporter when crews built the new tunnel, they also did improvements to the old caldecott tunnel as well including an improved ventilation system which came in handy today with all that smoke. Some of you remember 33 years ago it was a much different story. This is the aftermath of a Chain Reaction crash that led to a deadly inferno inside the caldecott. Seven people were killed. Tonight we know a truck driver killed in a fiery wreck may have been trying to warn over drivers to get out of his way. Charred remains are all thats left after a semi truck slammed into an empty restaurant in pittsburgh. The impact and explosion shook the entire neighborhood. Police say the driver likely had some kind of mechanical problem. He was flashing his lights right before he crashed. A gruesome day in napa, a total of four people found dead. Two bodies were discovered this afternoon in the unit at the glenview apartments. Police dont know how the man and woman died. They are calling the deaths suspicious. Earlier today police say a man was shot to death in a vineyard just south of yelpville. The shooter led police on a chase up highway 29, pulled off the road and took his own life. The napa valley register reports one of the dead man is robert dahl, the owner of dahl vineyards. The other is his business partner, an investor. Reporter macdonald has not been charged. Today he filed a 15 page civil suit against the woman for defaming him and derailing his career. She had been drinking and fell and hit her head by his pool. She later woke up naked in his bed and didnt remember anything.
