[ singing ] a Pivotal Moment in civil rights history is remembered 50 years later at the alabama bridge stained with the memory of bloody sunday. Good evening, im ann notarangelo. And im brian hackney. People rejoined to recreate the march. Marley hall with the stirring speech from president obama. Reporter president obama and his family retraced the historic walk across the Edmund Pettus bridge. This is where police used brutal force to stop a march for Voting Rights 50 years ago. The events of bloody sunday became a turning point for the nation. It was not a clash of armies, but a clash of wills. A contest to determine the true miening of america. Reporter former president george bush attended the event with about 100 members of congress. While paying tribute to selmas heros, the racial bias in ferguson, missouri shows more work is needed. We need to open our eyes, our ears, and our hearts to know the nations long history still casts its shadow upon them. Thousands came for the address. Including some who were here when the violence happened. On their third attempt, they reached the capital in montgomery to demand Voting Rights. It is a great feeling of triumph and victory. After having gone through all of the indignities. The sacrifices made by many people. Reporter five months later, president johnson passed the Voting Rights act and that changed the course of history. Dozens of people remember the events in selma by marching across the Golden Gate Bridge today. Some held signs in a show of solidarity. Others agreed with the president s remarks. We have come a long way, but there is still a lot of work to do with racial inequality. It brought back special memories to a bay area man. He was there. He not only witnessed it, he recorded it for history. I was remarkably taken with their honesty and their fort rightness. I was charmed. And i said, god, i hope we are creating a better future. Reporter he was a 24year Old College Student from new york 50 years ago. He flew to selma to be a part of history. Now he live ins mountain view. When i was marching and photographing and i looked at the people, i said this is who the march is dedicated to. Reporter summerstein catcherred the marchers. He focused on those who taunted. And threatened them every step of the way. I only saw hostility a few times from some people. The police really stayed back. They were pushed back. And they were told you are not to do anything. Reporter he took this iconic photo of Martin Luther king jr. Speaking to a crowd of 30,000 people in montgomery, alabama at the end of the selma march. It was like the eye of the hurricane. Everything was happening around him, but there was a quietude, a certainty about the man. I tried to capture that with may camera. Reporter some of those moments he recorded in history have never been seen before. I purposefully kept it locked in my archives until i retired which i did about eight years ago. I have actually been rather amazed. His pictures are now on display at the New York Historical society and you can catch more of our conversation with him tomorrow on kpix5 news sunday morning at 7 30. Protesters are demanding justice after a Police Officer shot and killed a 19yearold black man in madison, wisconsin, friday. Police say the man identified as Tony Robinson assaulted the officer after a disturbance in an apartment complex. Robinson was unarmed. The officer was involved in another Police Shooting in 2007 but was cleared of any wrong doing. Police say he is on administrative leave pending a state investigation. Lets go. Cant kill africa in la, dozens of people staged a diein on a downtown street to protest the killing of a homeless man last weekend. The man nicknamed africa grabbed at weapons as they struggled to arrest him. The shooting was captured on cell phone video and has outraged the community. Several investigations are underway in the mans death. Police are investigating a car theft spree in fremont. They say six cars were taken from three dealership ins one night. They were all located within a couple of miles of each other. Surveillance video shows the suspects in action. Police arrived just four minutes after the alarm was triggered but the suspects were gone. And so were the cars. Um, it is just sad for all the dealerships in general. I tell you what i want to do is take the keys and take the titles, you know, and lock your office as good as you can. Witnesses told police they saw a silver colored car similar to a chevy malibu with five people inside near the scene. Police say that car is likely connected with the suspects. At least seven people were hurt when a roof collapsed at a frat party at cal poly. Dozens of people were standing on top of the garage when it gave way. The party was a celebration called saint frattys day. That is why everybody is dressed in green. No one was inside the garage when it collapsed. These still pictures give a better look at the before and after. You see just how many people were up on the garage roof. And then, moments immediately after, it collapsed. A couple of people at the party said it all happened within seconds. We were kind of on the side of the roof. And then, i just remember, yeah, you could hear cracking noises and you had about three seconds of it falling and people were just on top of it. The most serious injury, someones thigh was impaled by debris. Others were treated for cuts and bruises. A pasadena man is facing a slew of charges in a wreckless case of road rage. He is caught on camera nearly causing a collision. The driver in the small car slams on his brakes in front of the lexus which he had been tailgating minutes earlierment at one point, he throws bottles at the lexus. The driver in the small car speeds away. But this video helped police find him. He is facing numerous charges that could include assault with a deadly weapon. This laser was pointed right at a police helicopter. The chopper told police where to find the guy pointing the laser. One car got hit as it was responding to the call. The accident sent the two officers inside the patrol car to the hospital. Broadsided a police car. And the officers inside were injured. The passenger officer, the impact, most of tim pact. Seriously injured. You can see from the helicopter, police moved in on the suspect and made the arrest. He was using an air soft rifle to point the laser. Two School Security officer haves been placed on administrative leave after this video came to light. It is from over a year ago. It shows officers roughing up a student at oaklands fremont high. It shows one officer pushing the student and punches are thrown. The video has been turned over to the police an prosecutors. The students family is considering a lawsuit. A suspect in the child molestation case is still missing tonight. Janel carter is accused of overpowering a santa clara sheriffs deputy during a hospital visit friday. The search has ended. Carter is easily identified by a tattoo on his neck that says alice. And nine abandoned puppies are in new homes tonight. They were found in a dumpster tuesday. The Marin Humane Society received hundreds of calls about the pups. Some as far away as texas. The streets of san franciscos china town were a sea of color tonight. Mark sayre was among the tens of thousands taking in the Lunar New Year parade. Reporter the sights and sounds of the Chinese New Year parade and the enthusiasm was just as high at the end as it was at the beginning. There is an amazing thing to watch. Something every year. You only see it once. Reporter what is billed as the largest parade of its kind outside of china started on Market Street just after 5 00. We sure when workers at the tessoro refinery went on strike, one Little League got the boot. They couldnt even practice. The players got their home fields back. Reporter for pitcher josiah, this is home sweet home. It feels good seeing the place for the first time in a long time. Reporter josiah and hundreds of other players could not set foot on a single one of these diamonds for more than a month. We had to play on the grass. Reporter in early february, the Youth Baseball League found itself in a jam. The oil refinery leases 18 baseball diamonds to the league, but when workers went on strike, they closed up shop including the fields sending the league to find new places to play. My nephew wondered if he could play again. Reporter late this week, a deal, as long as refinery workers dont picket near the kids at the gate, they would allow players back on the field. A big relief for a League President , patty. Im happy we are back here at our own field. We are really pleased. Reporter you can get all 15 of these fields back in tiptop shape, was not easy. A representative for the union says the workers never plan to picket where the player accounts see them. Theres a lot of money raised to teach some cyber bullies a lesson. They made fun of a man showing off his dance moves, but bobby cable says now it appears he will have the last laugh. If i see something wrong, then to try and fix it. Reporter la resident Cassandra Fairbanks was disgusted when she saw cyber bullies posting this image making fun of the person dancing. She decided to find the man in the picture, identify him, and throw him one big awesome dance party. I put it on twitter at that point. I was expecting maybe a couple of tweets. I didnt expect this. [ laughter ] reporter fairbanks and the ladies group tracked down the guy dubbed the dancing man online in london, own land in all places. He is being dubbed as shawn at the moment. It was a sweet invitation for him. Reporter a Kick Starter Campaign raised 30,000 for the party in less than 24 hour. I cant wait to inspire the rest of the world to dance like an idiot in public.
