Police say it is one of the most gruesome cases they have worked for years. Sharon chin has the story. Reporter acting on an anonymous tip today, Police Detained the man who is a person of interest and another man for whom they have provided no details. They led the men from turk street 8 00 tonight. Many people were on the street looking for this person and spotted him at that location. Reporter police say they dont know who he is, but homicide investigators are trying to determine if they have the man responsible for the grizzly mystery. Body parts found wednesday afternoon in a suitcase on 11th and market and more in a nearby trash can. Earlier today, officers released these surveillance photos of the person of interest. They say he could be a homeless man. Restaurant owner tom says it appears to be the same man his video camera caught pulling the suitcase two blocks away. And he just stopped. Reporter tom says police came yesterday to see his video after examining surveillance tape from other areas. It is really creepy. Reporter meanwhile, the medical examiner is asking the state dna lab to identify the remains believed to be that of a light skinned man. In San Francisco, sharon chin, kpix5. Both men are being cooperative with detectives. We are learning about two new cases of the measles in the bay area. One in solano county. Marin county. A pediatrician in marin is refusing to treat anybody who is not vaccinated. Dr. Nelson franco. We wanted to make sure that we didnt spread measles in our office. Marin county is known for having a high number of vaccinated children. It is a little frustrating to be two years out and be having this problem. Caltrans is in charge of the technology and has replaced the racon twice but backups have failed. If you have a technology, even if it is a backup and it is spotty whether it is working or not, then that may be, if it is broken, that may be the time the pilot turns to it and it is not working and we have a disaster. Reporter so, december 17, hundreds of ships loaded down with oil headed to the port of oakland, have passed under the bay bridge without radar help. Executive director of bay keeper points to the crash in 2007 that coated the bay in oil as a sample of what could happen with this Vital Equipment out of commission. We have a very sensitive environment here. Once you get oil here, it is hard to get it out. Reporter the rule has changed and heavy fog, now ships cant leave the bay or port. But, they can still come in. You cant ask them to just idle in the bay until the fog goes away. So after coming into port, they are going to come in, they are going to come in under the bay bridge. We have had ships come in, in heavy fog when the radar was down. Reporter it was discovered during a routine monthly inspection by the coast guard. Today, the red cross and Salvation Army opened a shelter for those displaced by the huge fire if San Francisco. Organizers expect to help 60 people with food, clothing, and shelter and help them to find permanent housing. One person who lived in the Mission Neighborhood building 17 years is trying the figure out what to do next. They lost everything wednesday night. The condition my dad is in right now, it has been hard for us. It is still very critical. That mans father suffered third degree burns on his face and arms. A man suspected of stealing chevy camaros for his chop shop is behind bars tonight. Four camaros were stolen from this dealership on monday. The thief parked one of them in his backyard. He was arrested and all four camaros were found. One had already been stripped of its engine and transmission. The native band tail pigeon stopped eating and drinking and then became so weak, they fall from the trees. They are practically blind and in a day or two, they will be dead. There is another one. Reporter sally took us for a walk around her home. There is one over here. Reporter where she discovered new carcasses everyday. There is another one. Reporter an evidence of scavengers. At first it was one or two a day. Now it is two dozen in two weeks. Oh gosh, it is so had so see their beaks and eyes. It looks like they are really suffering. Reporter many of the carcasses end up at the Wildlife Center of silicon valley. They believe what is causing this is avian trich. It is a protozoan that is not transmitable to humans. This year is especially bad. A minimum of 200 to 300 pigeons have died since the beginning of january. What is causing the sharp spike . The department of fish and game says it is likely the drought. The pigeons are forced to cram into the same number of watering holes making it easier to transmit the highly contagious bacteria. By the time people find them, they are just so far gone, there is really nothing we can do to help save these birds. Reporter will this day off be what we call a major event .
